  3. I know I congratulated you on an earlier pm but never came here so I would like to say congrats again. I'm sure Roger got over it and completely understood considering how he knows your desire to hunt hard. That's a great buck and I would have shot him on opening day. Thanks for a great writeup.

    My COPD Ram

I just want to say thanks for all the kind words for helping out Tony but I need to clear up a few things. First of all I really didn't do anything special and it was a team effort between Tony, his son Keith, and myself. Tony having COPD was a big factor on this hunt and I want to say he did really well. I won't get into the hunt and let Tony tell the sory but I will say he made an excellent stock over 700yrds and made a perfect shot at 175yrds. I came to Az in 1973 and Tony's stories in Az Hunters & Anglers were among many of his articles I read. Over the years of reading his stories in many publications I became fasinated with his writing. I dreamed of the hunts he wrote about. When I heard he had drawn a sheep tag after 40 plus yrs I knew I wanted to be on his hunt more than anything. I was just hoping he would say I was welcome after offering. I can't tell you how much pleasure it has brought me to have been part Tony's bighorn hunt. Tony has hunted more places than I could ever imagine and I never got tired of listening to his stories. This might have been Tony's hunt but believe me I got more from this hunt than anyone could ever imagine. TJ

    Last Day Bull

Congratulations Brian. I'm sure the wife will allow more hall passes in the future after seeing what you brought home. Sticking in there and making a last day travel to Payson really paid off for ya. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Thanks for sharing. TJ
  13. Congratulations to everyone and their awesome bucks. Sounds like a good time was had by all. Thanks Hector for sharing some pictures and Allen for sharing his story. I can't believe I've never hunted the Kabab in all the years I have lived here. Not to smart of me. TJ

  16. Congratulations Wweston. I saw a huge one at 400yrds opening day of deer season. To far for this cowboy. Then another that was just to small to shoot. Thanks for sharing Lance. TJ

Has anybody else had a dry spell?

Good advice, I've practiced real life sitting, kneeling, and resting off of bipod prone out to 300 yards and off hand consistently at 100 yards. Did all that was possible to recover the animals. Maybe my share of unrecovered or lost animals was just dealt to me early on and for all I know I'll never loose another. Good thinking! Is that the San Juan in your avatar? Nice fish you're holding by the way.

Has anybody else had a dry spell?

YounHuntr, there is alot more to hunting than knowing your weapon and how good you shoot it. Tracking skills are a very important part of becoming a good hunter and you will learn in time. Hunting with experience hunters who know how to track can be a big plus in your learning of recovering down game. I'm glad you shared your stories with us because not to many would have been so honest. I hope you continue to learn and hopefully some of our knowledge will help you along. We all started somewhere. Good luck on your next hunt and I look forward to reading your first success story. TJ

Remember to be thankful for your spouse!

Thoughts and prayers to help heal the greif your freinds must be going through. It's so easy to loose sight of the little things in life. My wife spent all day yesterday shopping and preparing my meals for my upcoming elk hunt and yes I thanked her. We certainly shouldn't take our spouse for granted. I will try to thank her more often for the things she brings and does in my life. Thank you Amanda for the reminder. TJ

    Possibly my dads last hunt!

Stephen, there are so many people who wish they could have the chance to hunt one last time with their dad so thank you for posting your dad's hunt. The memories you share here will definitely bring back some memories for others who have shared their last hunts with their fathers. Hopefully this isn't the last hunt you two will enjoy together. My father has been telling me for years, after each hunt, that this just might be his last hunt as well. Myself, like you, am hoping the memory making continues. My dad, 83, decided to put in for spring turkey and I hope I didn't mess up the application like I did last year. We both are very fortunate to have our dad's as hunting partners. The funny thing is, just last week I told my wife the same thing. This just might have been my last backpack buck for me and I'm 21 yrs younger than dad. lol Thanks for sharing the pictures and taking us along on your dad's hunt. I hope we are as tough at that age.
