Talk about an introduction, WOW! That certainly is a beauty of a buck. Congratulations and thanks for sharing it with everyone here on cwt. Having family support is a blessing in this sport. Welcome to the site and I look forward to more pictures of your hunts or adventures. TJ

Good luck with the move and the new position. I'm looking forward to seeing some of them big whitetails. Buy a snow shovel for sure. TJ

That is an amazing buck and one that deserves congratulations to your hard work, success, and ability to do such a hunt. I would be lucky to get 50lbs out of that country. That's a beautiful buck! TJ

Before I opened this thread I knew it was going to be another great photo but I wasn't surprised to see it was even better than I expected. Awesome Doug and thanks for sharing. TJ

Which rifle for a youth hunter?
tjhunt2 replied to SteveKDC's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Pine Donkey is right on. Seems like all I hear any more is how far I shot this and far I shot that. There will be exceptions but the average kid doesn't need to know anything about long range shooting before he is taught the skills to stalk and take game at close range. Period! Done! Over & Out! Congratulations to everyone. I'm sure the hearts were pumping overtime and the excitement was topped out. Some advise and I don't mean this in any negative shape or form towards your post. You can improve on your next pictures. I'm always trying to do a better job myself. Once again, thanks for posting your success story and pictures. I would have loved to have been there to watch all the excitement go down. TJ

I agree on a very well written write-up along with pics. Sounds like getting away and enjoying your hunt area was what you really needed and killing a pig was the icing on the cake. Thanks for taking me along in your story. TJ

8 for 10 in Unit 18B general rifle! Big Pig winners announced!

Congratulations on the big pigs taken this year Don and to all the other successful pig hunters. TJ -
I always carry a game bag in my pack just in case I can't get back to camp or a cooler in my truck. I'm with Bill on this one. I like to get that hide off as soon as possible and start the cooling down process. I then can hang it a while in the shade if I'm with another hunter who is still chasing pigs. If it's cold and I'm close to home I will throw a bag of ice in the cavity and then skin in my walk-in after returning home. NEVER NEVER touch the meat while skinning. If it has hair then wait after the hide has been removed and use another knife or clean the one you used and then handle the hair removal and handling of the meat. I'm usually tired at this point so I let it hang for a day or keep it iced as Bill recommended. I debone and add pork shoulder or pork butt. A gutted pig weighing 35lbs. will yield you around 8lbs of deboned meat if it isn't shot up. I then add the same amount of pork. Grind and add sausage mix of your liking. TJ ps...if I'm at home I hose down my pig with a garden hose, pat dry with paper towels, and hang over night in my cooler. Some may not agree but my sausage taste great

Congratulations gut pile on a nice pig and a good write-up. I enjoy hunting alone once in a while. I started out that way back in the 70's and now hunt with a few friends. When hunting with friends I'm always trying to set them up to be successful before me so when I do get a chance alone I'm at piece with myself and can enjoy all the things god has created. My time in church so to speak. Thanks for sharing and nice shooting from the hip. I can't hit jack with a pistol. TJ

Boy does that look good. I bet you're enjoying it. I always enjoyed it as much as the hunt itself. Thanks for sharing. TJ

Congratulations on a really big pig. TJ

Congratulations on both pigs and thanks for sharing. I agree about having another hunter when hunting the border units and that just isn't right. To bad we can't receive rewards for shooting smugglers and drug runners. Yes, I'm servious! TJ

Thanks for the kind words Brian but the pleasure was all mine for sure. You certainly said it right: "The food was great, camp was great, and all-in-all GREAT time was had by all." I'm not sure what was worse, your so called little 10min climb up the hill or getting beat 2 out of 3 games at Candy Land by a 6 year old. OUCH! How could it have gotten any better? Brian had breakfast burritos and coffee for me every morning and his daughter was a real treat to be around. I still get a smile on my face everytime I think about her calling me Mr. TJ. Found out that Brian's father-law and I have known each other for years, since we both work for the City of Chandler, but never connected Brian till recently. Thanks for your generous hospitality and the opportunity to see some new country. TJ ps....I ran into Ernesto while driving out of camp Sunday. It was good to see and chat with him. His daughter shot a pig that morning and maybe we'll get to hear her story and see some pictures.

You certainly know how to bring out the beauty in a life and death situation Doug. Great picture as always. TJ

Congratulations on your boars. Like everyone else said, you did the right thing. Moma will be back. I've ran off moma before and an hour later moma was back for her baby. TJ

That's awesome! I have yet to capture a lion on a trail cam. Thanks for sharing. TJ

9 year old accidentaly shot - hope it wasn't a CWT's family member
tjhunt2 replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
I finally started rabbit hunting at age 15 by myself and put up the single shot and took out my Dad's semi auto 16ga. I jumped a rabbit and didn't get the shot off. Forgot to put the safety back on. Climbed over a log and accidently touched the trigger. BANG! Scared the shi!! right out of me. It has been etched in my mind forever since. I was one of the lucky ones. It can, but I hope it never does, happen to you. THINK SAFETY AT ALL TIMES! TJ -

Jay, that was just awesome my friend. I loved every second of that video. I am trying to get my wife, 63yrs old, into fly fishing. I just hope when she hooks her first she is hooked forever. I just bought her a pontoon and can't wait to get her out as soon as the weather breaks. Again, that was a great video and thanks for being a part of cwt. TJ -
