Great job Mike, you stuck with it for sure and it finally paid dividends! Dick

I listened to the webcast, the Commission voted not to support the bill. 2 opposed 3 yea votes. Commissioners Lewis and Hustad voted no. I am not surprised by the vote but dissapointed that the Commssion did not remain neutral. Commissioner Harris, I owe you an apology, I incorrectly called you Commissioner Lewis, that was lack of concentration on my part. Thank you for your vote of support towards the organizations and individuals that believe this is the correct road to pursue. Dick King

Is it any wonder why many of the Conservation/Sportsmens groups quit attending Commission meetings. This seemed to be an attuttde that was obvious many times! Is it any wonder the players want to see change? Dick King

As an individual, Dick King supports the bill as written.

Check out this list of items that will be available at the Banquet, including Commissioners Buffalo, Black Bear and Javelina tags click here for list What does the ABA do besides host 3-D shoots? *Negotiated to prevent a suggested move of 250 bull elk tags to a time frame out of the rut cycle. * Negotiated to keep the archery deer season from opening at a date that would have caused an overlap of archery deer and archery elk. * Negotiated to have the archery deer units that had gone to draw removed from the permit system (excepting North of the Colorado which are alternative management units) * Negotiated the first ever archery deer permits in unit 13A and 13B (the Arizona strip) * Negotiated the first ever archery Antelope permits in unit 7 * Negotiated the first ever archery Antelope permits in unit 27 south * Negotiated for over the counter archery turkey tags in the spring of 2011. (selected units and dates) * Plus many other issues were debated with many smaller victories favoring bowhunting. And there were of coarse some we didn't do as well on but we were always there representing our sport. And we would like to say, we didn't do this alone. We had help from other organizations on many of these issues and from individuals alike!

Brian, Thanks for making your post on "National Forest Land". It seems that whenever anyone harvests a truly great specimen, some one has to start some kind of rumor to cast a shadow over the accomplishment. I have known you for many years, had the privilege of sharing camp with you once and have very high regards for your effort and the enthusiasm that you put forth. Again, congratulations on a beautiful buck, I had my hands on that rack last we at Mogollon Taxidermy, all I can say is wow! Thanks for the latest post! Dick King

I was blessed with a archery antelope tag this year (only my second time) and took my first antelope. He is rather unique and I have to say I very happy. I first saw him the day before season opened and four or five more times before finally getting a shot. I set in a Double Bull blind for 8 days and passed on a few smaller animals as I really had hopes of getting an opportunity at this guy. It was well worth the wait and dealing with the very incredible temperatures in the blind at times.

That is one beautiful antelope, he is going to look great in your trophy room! Congrats to you! Dick

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I do not have any side view photos to post but I will say this, he is a little over 15 inches in length and has very little curl and as you can see, he is not real heavy and has one digger broken off so he will not score real high, but, he was 21" outside spread and he is unique and the fact that I held out for him while passing on smaller animals makes him even more special to me. Amanda....you will not see those pictures...and besides, they were not of me! Dick

Jeff, Your bad.....but my wife and I are going back to the California beach after elk hunting. She loves the ocean as much as I love to hunt!!! No more pictures if it got you that excited.

I keep all the windows closed except for the one that I would hope to shoot out of. If I have a viewing area behind me or to the side, I will fold the corner up a tad to give me something just to peak out of, I keep it as dark inside as possible, I prefer to where a black or very dark long sleeve shirt and black face mask and or cap. On my recent antelope hunt, I wore short sleeve shirts and no face mask, it was just too darn hot! I also like to set my Double Bull up so I am shooting corner to corner and that puts me as far away from the open window as possible. Move slow....I do not always use netting but I have shot Coues and turkey both thru netting with no issues.
-
On my recent antelope hunt I set dawn till near dark every day for 8 days except for one. I think I read 5 Louie Lamour western novels. That was hunting out of a Double Bull, if I am in a tree stand, I just enjoy the surroundings, on rare occasions I will read.

I just returned from my antelope hunt and never wore long pants the entire time. I too set in a Double Bull blind, 8 days before finally killing. One day I had 117 degrees on my little digital thermometer. I like to carry that just to see how comfortable it is being inside and out of the elements?? I did get my legs a little scratched up and I too had one of those little brown scorpions crawling around in my blind but I would rather have him on my leg in shorts than inside my pants....that does not sound like fun

I have been out of state so I missed being at the BHH but it sounds like it was a great success. I missed getting to chat with a lot of you guys this year, but, retirement isn't a bad thing! Although I am no longer on the Board of Directors, I will continue to manage the website and email newsletter. Thanks for all your support this past year! I have posted the scores on the website!
