Ok I know this a little late since I shot my deer last friday but this is the first real chance I have had to write a story........... We rolled in to camp thursday night Casey had told me that there might be a couple of his buddys camping with us but boy was i suprised to see about 10 other hunters watching me pull up into their camp! I dont generally like to do that unless they know me but AjoHunter was quick to come introduce him self so i felt better about camping there. Opening morning had finally come and to say we were just a little excited was an understatement since we got to our glassing spot about an hour and a half early, that sun couldnt come up quick enough,as soon as it did I glassed up what looked to be 2 bucks so the stalk was on when we got closer we watched the 2 deer top over the hill and then the shooting began we figured they had either shot the deer or spooked them off.We decided to go back to our glassing spot since we really couldnt glass from there.I glassed up my dad and uncle Bill that had stayed at our original glassing spot and in the same fieid of view of my binos I spotted a good buck, got a hold of my dad on the radio and he said "get your a$$ over here that buck is 100 yards from me brodside and does not know we are here" so Casey and I packed up our gear and started to run back to where the buck was of course we didnt get back in time so the buck topped over never to be seen again!!! We went back to camp for lunch and 2 of the other hunters had tagged out so it was cool checking out there bucks. AjoHunter was one of the lucky guys to shoot his buck opening morning so he decided to hunt with us for the afternoon hunt. We arrived at what looked to be some awesome country so started to glass it didnt take long for me to find some deer they were so far away that with my 10x42 swaros I couldnt tell what they were so I called over Casey and AjoHunter with there 15x binos they confirmed that they wrere just does so I decided to glass another hillside when Casey said that a buck had just came into view with the does. I was really excited now!! The buck bedded down in some thick octillas so we decided to make a move on him half way on our stalk AjoHunter glassed up a bigger buck now I was REALLY excited!!! We worked up a deep wash and popped up right were I thought I would have a good shot, I got into position and started to open the legs on my bi-pod when Casey said I got him, but what he had was the bigger buck it didnt take me long to have crosshairs on him but I just didnt feel comfortable with the shot it was 360 yards, he was looking at me, and there was some brush in the way so i decided tto hold off on the shot, it didnt take long for that big buck to figure out that he just about got smoked so over the hill he went, when he did he made the other buck stand up so my focus went back to him Casey called out "354 yards", I lined up the deer in the Boone and Crockett reticle and let the 270wsm eat!!!!!!! The buck dropped in his tracks and celebration was on!!!!!! I would like to give a special thanks to Casey and Eric 2 great dudes!!!!!

Does anyone us a 22-250 for Coues
AzPacknHorns replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
My wife had her first coues tag last year so I took her out shooting, all I had was 7mm mag she couldnt handle the re-coil, I had always wanted a 22-250 so I had one custome built. She started shooting the rifle and became very comfortable with the gun, it was then that we decided to use it for the hunt. I must say I was a little concerned about it at first but I believe it's all about shot placement. She was able to connect at 250 yards and the deer never took a step. If you decide to use your 22-250 try to keep your shots reasonable (250 - 300 yards) if you dont think that will be possible you may want to look at a larger caliber. -
We recieved the new issue of Trophy Hunter magazine a couple of days ago and guess whos on page 19 ???????????? Thats right its my wife, with the buck she shot last November here in Az. It was her first hunt ever, and to top it off she was able to connect on opening day. I couldnt be more proud of her !!!!!! We will see if her luck continues this November since she happens to have a 5B north rifle bull tag also.

Made the drive down from Flagstaff today to check out the new Bass Pro, was suprised that it wasnt to crowded the store was cool, really liked all the scenery and all the mounts but it is way to far to be my 1st choice for hunting gear, Sportmans still gets my vote great location when traveling from Flagstaff.

bass pro shops
AzPacknHorns replied to coues krazy's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
How big is that bass pro in comparison to cabellas? -
I have never heard of that but it makes perfect sense, I think I am going to give that Nikon Monarch 800 a try. I would really like to have the Leica or Swarovski but cant talk the boss into that right now.
-
Nikon claims that the rangefinder will read out to 800 yards with the right conditions with yours what has been a consistant long range reading? I doubt I will ever need much more than 400 to 500 yards but I was just curious.
-
I bought my wife a pair of the 10-42 monarchs and couldnt be happier, they are very light weight, crystral clear and feel very nice in the hand. At around the $300.00 price range I dont think you will find a better glass. They also come with a 25 year no fault warranty, PDG!!!!!

BowNut Are those a new kind of stabelizer? never seen one but they look like they are designed more for target bows. how do they perform and whats the cost?
-
Casey those look pretty cool who did those for you??
-
Is anyone going to make it to the shoot in Globe on May 5-6, I have never been to this one but I have heard it is a good one.
-
BowNut thanks for the info and i will keep an eye out for you, i was also wondering if there was anywhere to camp near the shoot? Im planning to pull my trailer down from flagstaff but not going to bother if we cant camp close.

If you are shooting that LX good why would want to raplace it? in my opinion the LX is one of the best bows Mathews has ever made. the bow is pretty forgiving, and if its speed your looking for my LX is shooting 290' per second with a 29" draw and goldtip 5575's im not sure what the IBO is on the Drenalin but in my opinion 290 is just about the perfect hunting speed. But if you really need to have that new Drenalin, remember its just money, and you will make more!!!!!!
