My son and I are headed to Unit 17 for his youth deer hunt. This will be his first deer hunt in which he carries a rifle. I have talked to a few guys and have studied the maps quite a bit but it seems as if the deer, especially bucks are few and far between. Any suggestions for us?

Mr. Fenton, we call him grand pa Fenton, hunted until he was 88 years young. He went to be with The Lord a few years back at the age of 93. His hunting partner Ed was a few years younger, but even with artificial hips Ed would still try to kick muleys to each other. They use to kill some hawgs back in the 40's & 50's. I loved sitting around and listening to Erney tell stories about hunting big bucks, and about God. He knew a ton about ballistics and even reloaded us a bunch of ammo before he went to heaven.

He was 1/8" shy of 29". I haven't put a tape to him yet but hope to when I get him back from the Taxidermist. Thanks everyone!

Talking about wierd sheds. I found this lion kill on a ranch that I run some cattle on....It has to be a deer but I'm not 100% sure..

I agree jamaro, that browtine sure looks like a whitetail, plus that main beam looks exactly like a whitetail.

My son drew a Unit 17 Youth deer tag. We applied for Burro Mountains for our first choice but drew this tag as 2nd choice. This is our families' first NM tag. We plan on hunting from 11/27 thru 11/30. He is stoked! I really appreciate any help? If I can ever assist you with Colorado or Wyoming info please let me know, I usually hunt there every year.
