I agree with this sentiment. Since I started hunting in AZ at 37 y.o. (after being in the military since I was 21), I just figured Bison, Sheep and Pronghorn were a waste of my time since I wouldn't get drawn for any until I am 70+. I have thought I might start putting in anyway, my daughter is 6 now, so maybe I can gift her a tag on her 40th bday!

maybe I know less about the points than I thought.... How do I go check those? FYI, I have no porthole account. I honestly put in last year for elk for my first time in AZ, but had a fraud on my CC about a week before the draw. I had to turn off the card so don't know if I was drawn or not (I also don't know if I was drawn with the card turned off, would I have gotten a point if the card declined the transaction?). I know it would be very rare to get drawn my first elk application, just something I have thought about since the last draw.

Here's the actual vid, for any of those aforementioned liberals: Edit: Seems like I might not be able to post youtube links. Just search and you will find it, I recommend duckduckgo over the other search sites.

They all seem to conveniently forget one's like this:

*EDIT* FYI, I was contacted by AZGFD and they were awesome about the whole thing, I really appreciate the time and explanation given to me by the officer. A few key points for any of you interested: 1. If you find a bighorn skull this fresh or fresher, please do not move it and call them to see if they need to come check it out before you remove it from the field. They need to investigate any animal that might be a poaching incident or other unlawful circumstance. This would also apply to a deer skull or other dead game animal that you might come across in the same or fresher condition. 2. AZ law does let you keep bighorn skulls after they determine nothing illegal happened, but there are many other states that do not. AZ does not plug or mark natural death skulls the same way they would for an animal taken by permit, so you may get in trouble if you take one to another state with different laws. 3. So after all that, I get to keep my find. Awesome! *Original Post*: So my hunt this year in unit 28 was a bust, but I did fine a nice skull. Pretty sure it was a lion kill since a leg was close by also and it was right near a big cliff. Just a few miles out of San Simon, in the BLM wilderness I found this on Monday afternoon. Kind of made up for the skunked hunting trip around Woods Canyon & Doubtful Canyon. I saw some deer there, but the hunting pressure was high and the only buck I saw Friday morning was gone after a crew of weekend hunters showed up and started hanging out 50 yards from the water sources in the area (I was watching them from 500-750 yards off). Anyway, getting it cleaned soon to keep in the collection, saw some other bighorn sign in the area so was really surprised. Posting up here since I probably won't hunt there again, but definitely don't hunt anything other than deer.

They told me it was "young" but didn't expound on that. Also said that the apparently chewed off nose was common in kills by mountain lions, and they also look at other signs of death if more of the animal would have been left. Estimated date of death was 6-12 months ago. He did say that the bone structure inside the horns was porous and held a lot of moisture so that it was sometimes hard to estimate how long ago it had died.

So I called and got a message, emailed customer service today. Haven't heard back but they are probably busy with the season, I will wait to do anything to that skull until I hear back. Hope they get back to me soon, looks a little gruesome and is stinky as-is.

OK, thanks for the heads up, I am happy to call them if needed, and I took pictures with my GPS so they are tagged with location, condition, etc. I took some of the skull and later of the leg where it was sitting.

Where are you at?

My thought exactly.

What's with the Walkstool logo? I can't tell what the heck is on top of the legs???

I figured right now is the worst time to try and sort an account issue so might wait a few weeks and try then.

Hi all, I recently got my scope dipped to match my rifle and am wondering now about mounting it. Should I remove the hydro-dip from under where the rings will clamp down or not? Do you have any scope / gunsmith recommendations I can read, I haven't been able to find any. The rings are Talley and it's a Leupold VX5hd scope if that matters. I have not torqued down the rings yet because I spun them down finger tight and still see gaps on the rings, I do have a torque screwdriver that will work for the range Talley recommends on their rings, 16-20 inch-lbs I think.

Put 40+ lbs of wire through a flux core only Campbell Hausfield I bought for $80 back in 2007 or so. After 8 years I sold it to a friend for $50. That would be my recommendation for an entry level machine. Have a Miller 215 now and would recommend that for more serious work but its $1800 or so.

Would you be interested in a Riton scope, new never mounted with talley rings as part trade? Have to check the model when i get home, 3-15x56 i think.

Thanks bigorange, but I think i might have to call in to AZGFD to get my account fixed. I signed up for a license and paid that in late 2019 to sign up for the last draw but was never able to sign into my portal account or the AZGFD hub. I did get a receipt number and AZGFD ID number, but not any sort of account. When signing up for the draw I used my license number and SSN to put in for a hunt but have never ever been able to log into the portal on the site. Any time I try it says I need to call into the support system because my account is flagged or something like that. I know I got drawn and am excited for that, I am more apprehensive about trying to set up the AZGFD account so I can actually log in and see my information, bonus points, etc. Thanks for the input so far.

How long until we know hunt #, and where should I look? This is my first year drawing in AZ and am still learning.
