Seen the fee proposals for 2006?
Diamondbackaz replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
AZlife, All this stuff doesn't get used from year to year if you don't get drawn. Bottom line, it is getting more difficult to get drawn simply because there is more people moving to the state. There is nothing that you or I can do about it. So what are you left with? I do believe that if prices are raised that there will be less Bozos puting in. If someone with limited funds wants to hunt bad enough, I believe that person will find a way to come up with the funds. Lets just say a deer tag costs you $50 to get an opportunity to hunt a few days a year, and compare that to a few things that it will also buy you: Dinner for two at Red Lobster 1 month of cable TV Game of golf for 2 1 seat at a Dback game -
Here's a doozzy, a friend of mine was hunting over by Pepersauce watching a canyon and some Bozos drove up in a Jeep, jumped out, and started shooting their rifles down into the canyon to try to scare something out. They left and drove off and he could here them shooting again in the next canyon over.

Seen the fee proposals for 2006?

If raising the price means eliminating some non serious hunters and other assorted Bozos from putting in, and raising my chances of getting drawn for a tag, heck Yes. What's worse than paying good money for a tag? It's sitting at home getting a year older and not hunting because you didn't get drawn. Lets face it, many people go out to hunt just to drink beer and get out of the house. You don't need a tag for that, if pricing a few out so be it. A serious hunter will be willing to pay a little more. Lets add some of the things a hunter uses: Jeep $10,000 Rifle & Scope $900 Binosw/pod/head $2,000 Small Binos $400 Tank of gas for Jeep $38 Box of ammo $20 Back pack $200 I'll quit there, but we spend a lot of money on things that we use for a season that lasts from 4 to 16 days that only occurs once a year. All this stuff is no good if you don't get drawn and have to sit out a year or two. -
Agree with 100% with what you said, although I don't think it is illegal for someone to shoot at a mountain side. Now you know why I consider the December hunt a premium hunt. Less hunters, and you can hunt in the middle of the week when all the bozos are gone.

If you have been on here long enough, you know I have been advocating for the premium hunt for December whitetail for over two years now through my letter writing campaigns. I have always said the tag is the cheapest part of my hunt. A tank full of gas for my jeep for one day of scouting is more money than the tag. Heres a copy that last letter so I wrote to understand my logic: To whom it may concern, I looked at the ceiling caps on big game tags and found them to be reasonable, especially for the creation of the premium hunts. I stated in my last letter that these hunts are a good idea for the high demand, hard to draw Deer and Bull Elk hunts. The only thing that I believe that was neglected from this list was the December whitetail hunts. The December whitetail hunt should be included in the premium hunt category for the following reasons: ? Low draw odds: Draw odds for December hunts range from 3% to 13% while draw odds for the October and November hunts range from 65% to 100%. ? High demand: December hunts are much longer seasons than the October and November making them a high demand hunt. ? Trophy bucks: December hunts are closer to the rut making trophy animals easier to find. ? Success Rates: Look at the AZGFD stats, December hunt success rates are two to four times higher than the October and November hunts. ? Less Hunters: There is a lot less tags offered per unit for December hunts which means there is less chance of conflicts with other hunters in the field. As you can see, these are many of the same issues that exist with the Kaibab deer and early Bull hunts. I don?t know what the non-resident demand for the December whitetail hunts is, but I bet it is much higher than the October and November hunts. Please consider this proposal. I know a lot of the issues with the USO lawsuit dealt with the Kaibab and Bull elk hunts. But please look into creating a Premium Whitetail hunt. -
GMM, I can understand some of what you are talking, but I will stay around because there is still good stuff here, just have to weed through what's worthwhile to you. I guess that there is only so much you can talk about Coues deer. I don't post as much as I use to, especially after I got a nasty email from a fellow member because I suggested an area for hunters to go hunt in 34A. However, this is one of the few sites that I can personally relate to most people since most people are from Arizona and New Mexico. I agree, if I want information on rifles, I go to 24hr camp fire where the rifle shooting loonies are, I go to the refuge forums on shotgun shooting. Politics are important and hunters as a group are not politically strong and need to be more active. Just think of all of the forest land that is closed off to private property in the Galiuro's. Only political action can help get more land open.

How about neither, I would like to know what the first name was given to these deer. The Yaqui's have held this deer in extreme high regard as an important part of their culture long before the some European named Coues set foot on North America. These animals were such an important food source for these people that they have a cerimonial deer dance where the dancer wears a head dress with antlers.

The access road off of Chavez Siding raod is the only true public acesss to the area. The road was moved off of private land and on to state land a few years back.

Leupold has unbeatable customer service.

Yes they can gate off public land, and yes they can charge you a trespass fee. Access is a big issue, and the Galiuros is one of the worst. Almost every road going into that mountain range could be closed at a moments notice. The good news is that the Forest Service is going to start looking harder at these issues. That whole Mercer ranch and copper creek area has large copper deposits called "brecerra pipes" Spelling? and this whole area can be mined. I believe the ranch is already owned by a mining company. Lots of patented land already there already that could close things off.

Yes, you're way too close.

They put this thing in a bad location, 3 miles from my house. the location is on Costco drive just North of the Home Depot. Amanda is right about support. They need a lot of business to maintain such a massive inventory. I am sure it will be a death blow to places like Jensens which has gone down hill over the years.

I got a $10 off dollar coupon in the mail if you spent more than $50.

Here is a message I got on the TRGC from a board member: Origunally we were planning for the Race Track Tank site at Redington Pass. The Redington Road has been greatly improved and is now maintained to passenger car standards. Then, in late June we discovered a much larger and better site a few minutes further down the road. We have gotten topographical maps and are having the range design people look at them to determine the best alternatives and to develop a plan.

The one being planned for the rod and gun club will be up in Redington Pass. Pima Pistol in Ctalina has a 100 yard range.

Last year I had several people request me to email a scanned map of the patagonia roads, but the file was to big to mail so it got kicked back. Those maps are now on line. These maps are the most accurate for road numbers and whats on the ground. long long distance shooting
Diamondbackaz replied to muledeerarea33?'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have been out to three points where a group of guys shoots 1000 yard targets once a month. They have the 50 cal. catagory and the smaller caliber catagories. Those guys were shooting 30 cal. lazzeronis and 30-378's, not 308's. I was with a friend of mine hit his deer last year dead nuts where he aimed at 525 yards. He also took one the year before that at 725 yards. It was so far away that his bushnell 800 range finder wouldn't pick it up. He had to find something closer to spot a range. He got a rock at 682 yards and estemated ted the deer 50 yards beyond that. He nailed it. Just keep in mind that this individual is obsessed with rifle shooting and shoots them at least once a week if not more. Then practices on rabbits. He uses his ballistics program to create a trajectory chart to use with the range finder. -
You can get mirrors, horns, and most other things at a motorcycle store. I like using pressure switches that fit on to the banjo fitting for the brake lights. Heres where I buy my ATV stuff, especially batteries http://www.rockymountainatv.com/ . The newer Yamahas come with brakes lights already. Just remember, you only need to license the ATV if you take it on level 3,4 & 5 forest raods, state, county, and city maintained roads. If you are on a level 2 forest road, you will not need the license.

Yes, and also have liabilty insurance. Some will have to be emission tested if you live in Tucson or Phoenix.

Land cruisers ride like tanks, if you want a slick set up, get a 97 and newer Wrangler which has a coil spring suspension. Put on a 2 1/2" Rancho RC suspension with 9,000 shocks. These shocks can be adjusted down to a low stiffness for offroad, and a high stiffness for highway. With the shocks set on the lowest setting, along with the tires aired down to 15lbs., it takes up the bumps real nice.
