AZ Game and Fish releases survey results
Diamondbackaz replied to Huntin'AZ's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
WY has a system exactly like this... The Preferred tags are twice as much.... It is all about the money... As a general rule I think AZ is much more expensive than other states... Most states don't require you to purchase a license... J- Should a September bull elk hunt have the same price as a limited opportunity cow tag??????? -
OK, I take it you have had this experience, I already know the trade in price, and your not even close!!!!!!!!!!! , and lucky doesn't have an "e" in it! Have you tried the auto or truck trader??? You have the most to gain by selling it yourself

AZ Game and Fish releases survey results
Diamondbackaz replied to Huntin'AZ's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I agree. I think the tag fee for premium hunts should be about $4000. That will REALLY weed out the ones that aren't serious... I would be willing to pay 3 to 4 times the standard tag price for the Dec coues to deal with less hunters, closer to the rut, and 16 days of hunting over a 6 day October hunt dealing with a bunch of goons. If it doubles the chance of getting drawn, it's worth it. -

I have said in the past on this site that there are two types of hunters, serious and non serious. That is why I have advocated premium prices for the premium hunts. Serious hunters will pay more for a quality tag with less hunters. -

Meat processing?
Diamondbackaz replied to DesertBull's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Learn to butcher your own animals it's not that difficult. Use the money saved to buy a meat grinder and sausage stuffer, and if you do a lot, a bandsaw. A good animal to start off with is a Javi. -
Tex Canyon road also goes through the Chiracahuas and is easier to get something big through. The Pedegrosas are just south of the Chiracahuas.

This has been an anticpated access issue for years since there is no right of way from the end of the county road to the forest boundary. The peloncillos is an access issue nightmare. There are not many places to get in with a motor home in the Peloncillos except geronmo trail. You might want to consider another location such as the Chiracauhuas and Pedegrosas.

I have been trying for 3 years to convince the G&F that the December hunt is a premium hunt that should have a premium tag price. They did come up with premium hunts for Kaibab mulies and and early bull elk, but was then shot down by the commission.

At one time Arizona had a restriction that you had to shoot a forky or better....

I got to hike the Grand Canyon!
Diamondbackaz replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Brings back memories for me. I worked for the lodges one summer back in 85 and to hike it 3 times, 2 free airplane rides, free tour bus ride, and a free helicopter ride. It was great. But after being there 3 months, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there. The last two weeks were agony and couldn't wait to get back to NAU. It was a lifetime experience. If you are a college kid and have the summer off, it is easy to get a job with the lodges. -

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I guess I should be more specific, my main problem is these guiding services who feels they own the land, takes a person out, points out the animal, and say shoot that one. That's not hunting. I agree that one can be hired to teach a hunter to get his own animal and that expertise should come with a price. This way a hunter can learn to hunt on his own. I have taken people out my self to show some friends some things, and my friends have shown me some things, however, we never charged anything for it. I have been blasted a couple of times through emails on this site because I gave out advice on places to hunt. Oh by the way, never have mocked a working man and never will.....

Don't bother me none, as far as I'm concerned, they can raise it to $1,000. I have never been a fan of people profiting off our wildlife resources, especially on public lands. Hunters should go out and find their own animal.

It is true that I assumed that these deer are Coues because as pre8er has said, I too have only seen Coues on the base as I have driven through.

Spring Javelina - Leftover permits
Diamondbackaz replied to BuckNasty's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I screwed up too by checking the non resident box. Still got my unit 33 through the leftover. It took a week to find out, but you have to call the hotline. The internet didn't show anything but the phone did. Lots of 34A tags leftover. -

I assume you were on Tex canyon road which is a boundary for 30a and 29 where the cattle gaurds are marked with small signs???? There is at least two parcels of private land on that road and many others within the Forest boundary.. An excellent map to get is the Northern Chirachaua Mountains put out by the forest service. Do not confuse this map with the standard Forest map. This map has most of the roads w/ numbers, topography, and shows where the private land is. An excellent Map for anyone to own. You can take road 4362 off of Tex Canyon road and access a lot of area including half moon valley. This area is closed off from the west from private land but open from the tex canyon side. Half moon valley can also be accessed from hwy 80.
