You don't see this very often... Banded Dove
Avid Hunter posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Well I always figured I would shoot a banded duck before shooting a banded dove, but it happened yesterday. Out in Gila Bend yesterday morning while cleaning the birds I looked down and was shocked to see a band on this guys foot. I almost didn't even notice it. My Dad had shot a banded dove 20+ years ago at Robbins Butte, but that was a bird actually banded by AZGFD at Robbins Butte. I called up the number on the band and was surprised that the bird was banded in Salt Lake City in August of 2012. Crazy these little guys make such long flights. I know they migrate but never really think about it. Anyways we thought it was pretty neat. I've shot a lottt of dove and never figured I'd ever see a band. Guess I better pay more attention now when cleaning them. Anyone else ever shoot one? -

Switched to Kifaru last year and I will say it is a night and day difference comfort wise when hauling heavy loads. I vote save up and buy once cry once. If you have no time to save up and need one by this season, the eberlestock dragonfly is a great, more budget friendly option. They're even on Sierra trading post right now. Should be around $170 with one of their coupons. They have the blue widow for around $150 too. Use it for a year and sell it for that price if you're not happy with it. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/eberlestock-j107-dragonfly-hunting-backpack-internal-frame~p~125rg/?filterString=s~eberlestock%2F http://www.sierratradingpost.com/eberlestock-jp9-blue-widow-hunting-backpack-internal-frame~p~125rh/?merch=prod-sim-prod125RH

"How did I live without it?" Hunting Gear
Avid Hunter replied to rossislider's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Quite a few things above I agree with above. Some of the items I've purchases in the last year or so that I love. Kifaru DT2 - As mentioned above crazy difference in a pack that actually fits you well. Hauls incredible loads comfortable and compresses down small for day hunts. Can't recommend these packs enough. Zebralight H600 - Everyone should have a good reliable flashlight on them. 18650 give great runtimes with high lumens. Love this light. Silky folding saw - Super lightweight and cuts wood like butter. Works great on sternum/pelvis as well. https://www.amazon.com/Silky-Folding-Landscaping-SUPER-119-21/dp/B0014CC31C/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1470803533&sr=8-10&keywords=silky+saw Trioxane Fire tablets - amazing fire starting tabs. Highly recommend trying. https://www.amazon.com/U-S-Military-Fire-Starter-Trioxane/dp/B00GJ08WIC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470803603&sr=8-1&keywords=trioxane+fuel Kylmit Luxe Insulated sleeping pad - For a side sleeper like me these have been a life saver. I roll off most pads and this thing is a beast. Very warm and lightweight for the size you are getting. Keep an eye on ebay for refurbs from the manufacturer. Picked up 2 for $100 and they were brand new. https://www.amazon.com/Klymit-Insulated-Static-Mattress-X-Large/dp/B00UW7SQQG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1470804261&sr=8-2&keywords=klymit+luxe -

I am located inPeoria. I make it out to Scottsdale about once a week. I can always ship too. Let me know

I can vouch for savinglots.. I placed my order through them when they were backordered a month ago and I got a phone call the next day saying they got some in stock and would be shipping that day. Great customer service and fast shipping. When I spoke with them he said they had more on the way. I'd give them a call and check, super nice guys. As far as the rangefinder goes, I am very happy with it! Crazy fast readings and easily picks up on rocks and trees at 1,000+ yards. Like other have said it reads reflective targets at 2,000 yds. I am also very impressed with how well it works in low light. Lastly, even ranges at 5 yds with angle compensation so will be able to use for archery. Only negative I would say is blueish tint but that doesn't bother me for the performance, especially at this price point. I'd definitely recommend.

Most Prized Waterfowl
Avid Hunter replied to SwampMafia's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
My name is Jim and I have waterfowl addiction. I have been very blessed when it comes to what has visited my spread here in AZ. Like mentioned above I was lucky enough to shoot an old squaw a couple years ago. Was able to see him 2 days in a row before harvesting him. Was jumping up and down like a kid. Dream hunt of mine is to visit PNW/AK to shoot Eiders, Harlis, Barrows, Scoters, and another old squaw. That won't be happening anytime soon though. Another bird at the top of my want list is Euro wigeon. As far as birds go that are still on my hit list that I have a chance at in AZ are storm wigeon, wood duck, mature redhead, mature BWT, mature lesser scaup, and a few others. Heck I eventually would love at least a mature drake of each species mounted. Saw a stud of a storm wigeon the other day on a golf course in Scottsdale. Gave me a sliver of hope haha. We've shot almost everything here including all those I listed, they just either haven't been mature enough or I wasn't the shooter. That's what I love about AZ, you get a huge variety of birds. I'll see if I can find photos of most of the cool birds we've shot. Sasquatch Find the oddball Awesome late season plumage birds Always love the colors on buffies Stud Cinnamon Almost colored out goldeneyes One and only canvasback I've shot Best Gadwall i've shot Only nice pintail drake I've shot Nice Goldeneye contemplating mounting I shot the other day off a tank pig scouting. What's currently at my house Ok ill stop for now haha.. sorry for the picture spam -
Duck taxidermist AZ
Avid Hunter replied to SwampMafia's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Usually cheap and quality don't exist in regards to waterfowl taxidermy.. You typically get what you pay for. Cheapest guy I have found who actually does quality work in my opinion is Brian Snyder in Utah. Downside is you have to ship but it is really easy. (http://www.snyderstaxidermy.com/index.html) There are some other fantastic bird guys you can find on taxidermy.net but be prepared to pay upwards of $200 a bird for quality work IMO. From my experience having birds mounted, I haven't found anyone in AZ I'd take another bird to. But I am pretty picky about waterfowl, so it depends on what you'd be happy with. Id rather spend a little more and have the bird look alive rather than stuffed. What did you shoot that you want to get mounted? I have a few birds on my hit list this year -
Another vote for Kifaru.. Carried out a whole coues deer twice this year in my DT2 and was extremely comfortable for the weight you are packing. They have the option of switching out bags depending on what your doing. Definitely give them a look if you plan on carrying some heavy weight

Well duck season is just around the corner... Looking forward to another fun year. Thought I'd share a few pics of the hooded merg I got back from last year. Really happy with how he turned out. Has always been a bird that was on my hit list to mount.
-
Thanks for all the compliments, I'm really happy how he turned out! The guy who did the work is actually in Texas. He just does some birds on the side to help pay for the taxi competitions he competes in. He is an artist for sure and extremely talented. You should see some of his other work. This is the year Billy.. you got nothing lined up after your coues hunt. No excuses!
-
Brian Snyder up in Utah did the work. I would definitely recommend him http://www.snyderstaxidermy.com/

Finally got my canvasback I killed in 13-14 season. It was well worth the wait! Also had my uncle's teal and buffy done as well. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Uncle's birds
-
Acutally shot it here in AZ if you can believe it.. He was a little off course I'd say ha.. Not many times you see an Old Squaw mixed in with some puddlers lol.. I love this photo, something doesn't belong here

i set up a new account. not sure how to "link". it shows my bonus points, but that's it. says no draw info and no license info I did the same.. Called G&F and the lady said they wont be posted until the draw is complete... I asked if that would be today since other people are seeing results and she said she did not know. Sooooo I'll just keep waiting
-
Mine aren't showing up yet either.. Are you seeing the results using the old results portal or through the new account you set up through AZGFD? I set up an account yesterday but its not showing anything under the hunt/draw info

Hit for 4 elk tags as well!
