Ok so I am in the market for a better bino system than what I have now. I currently use a crooked horns harness and I cannot stand how it rides up my back and into my neck. The binos bounce around and overall I am frustrated with it. I have pretty much narrowed down my choices between the Nimrod Bino-Topia and the Badlands Bino Case. I like the Nimrod because it seems it would be quicker/quieter to get to the binos and seems more secure than the crooked horns design. Does anyone have experience with this system? Does it ride up your back? My biggest fear with the Badlands is that the large pouch on my chest will interfere with range of motion while hunting. I assume it wont be in the way while drawing my bow, but will it be in the way of my pack? Does the shoulder straps make your pack uncomfortable? Can I still use the chest buckle strap on my eberlestock while wearing bino case? Overall I like the protection of the Badlands but I am worried that it will be too big on my chest and in the way? Is this true? However I like the price of the Nimrod in comparison. Also is it possible to use the RangeSnap on the Badlands? Thank you for any info on experience with either of these products!

Yes the inflated MSRP is ridiculous.. I have looked around online and found it cheaper, right around $90, which I still think is a lot.. What rangefinder system did you use instead?

Holy cow! Huge bull! Congrats to the young hunter!

I will be using 10x42 Swaros with the setup.. so this an enclosure you snap around your torso?

I looked at that one and like it except for the fact that if unclip the binos I feel like the harness will fall back over my shoulders. I feel like it needs two more straps

Frustrated with ducks
Avid Hunter replied to khmer6's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Ducks arent really down in the desert yet, best bet numbers wise is still up north. We haven't really had any storms yet. December January is when you'll start seeing the numbers. Like trophyhnter said, a decent gauge is the golf courses or local ponds. Good luck and let us know how you do! -
A little late - Early Hunt

Thanks guys! I used the 40 proof peroxide and stuff called quick white I believe and it really got the skull nice and bleached! -
Finally getting around to posting.. This year my goal was to hold out for a 3x or better opening day, after that anything was fair game due to only being able to hunt the weekend. Opening morning came, and I found myself hiking back to a new spot with my buddy. However we never made it to our intended destination as we kept running into deer. We saw a couple bucks feed over a ridge in front of us so we made our way slowly to the top. We slowly crept over and spotted a doe down below us in the ravine. After glassing the thinck vegetation below us for a bit I spotted a nice buck with his head feeding in a tree. Saw he was a nice 3 point so I tried working to get position for a better shot as he moved into the tree. Well this is where my nice laid plan fell apart. As I am moving over to my left to get a better angle, two deer bust 20 feet from me. (We've been sitting here for at least 10 min now) Then two more deer bust. Two deer when down the ravine and two went over the ridge we just came from. Now I see this buck running up the hillside in front of me, I can tell its a decent buck as well so I (stupidly) decide to shoot at this deer on the move. He stops for a second I shoot and miss. He takes off, same thing happens, I can't get a solid rest quick enough and miss again right as he goes over the hill. As soon as he goes over the hill I hear three consecutive shots. I ended up pushing him right to someone else ha. In all of that chaos my buddy goes over the top of the previous ridge we crossed and I hear a shot. He shoots his first buck at 40 yards. A nice little forkie with a split eye guard and hes ecstatic! High fives are exchanged and we get to work! I blow an opportunity that evening and on to Saturday. Once again I find myself hiking to the location I was trying to get to opening morning. Being that it is the second day, if it has horns it is fair game. Coues taste too good and I just didn't have the time this hunt to be picky as I would like. Making my way back to the spot I stop and do a quick scan of the hill next to me and I see a deer with my naked eyes. Put the binos up, buck! Tried to get my other buddy a chance at him but he couldn't hear me "whisper yelling" so I decide to take the shot. Lay down, have a solid rest on my pack. Range him at 360, check my drop and slowly squeeze off a round. I watch him through my scope jump 5 ft in the air and hobble into a tree! I knew I hammered him. Slid down the ridge I was on and crawled up the one he was on! Gotta love coues country! Took me about 15 min to find him once I got to where I shot because from where I was I couldn't see that he went over the ridge 10 ft and then proceeded to slide down the opposing side about 20 yards where he was graciously stopped by a prickly pear. All in all I had a great hunt, wish I could have held out for bigger but still am blessed to have taken a deer. My wife is just happy we have more deer in the freezer! First time I did the euro and I am really happy with how it turned out! Sorry for the long read.

Oh I am sure it won't be too easy but it will eventually happen.. I've talked to a few guys who have seen them around late season, and I shot a drake on the last day, so there have to be a couple around! Hopefully it doesn't take me too long. I've seen stranger things happen too, that old squaw below the cinnamon was shot here in AZ too! Crazy huh?

Nice job Ryan! Stud buck!

Love the whale tails! Great coues too! Go get them both! -
Thanks! Yep thats what I am going for. Actually shot a drake last day of the season last year. Unfortunately he wasn't quite mature and lacking the plumage I'd like! Hopefully this year!

You don't see this very often... Banded Dove
Avid Hunter replied to Avid Hunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
cool, thanks for sharing the info and for turning it in. "Encountered" ....you would think they might have a different designation for a hunter killed bird. I thought that was funny as well! I was expecting them to try and be politically correct with "harvested" or something. haha -
Who has an Alaskan Guide Creations Bino Pack?
Avid Hunter replied to jarheadhunter's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Does this pack ride up on your back? My Redhead bino harness does and I can't stand it when it goes all the way up to my upper back/base of my neck -
Looks like a tough hunt! Nice video

They sent this to me over email.. pretty neat to see more detailed info -
Found this while up in the pines this weekend.. Has a nice little kicker coming off the side. Wonder how much longer it was before he broke it. Hopefully I can catch a glimpse of him this year.
