    Coues Gunz!

My two favorites are my Rem 700 CDL SS in a 264WM shooting 140gr VLD's and my Weatherby Vanguard S2 in a 270WSM shooting 140gr VLD's. Here is my new toy I will be using this year. Savage 10T in a 6.5 CM. Probably shoot 143gr Hornady's. Haven't shot it yet but will let you know how it does.

Elk, moon phase and the Rut

I think the archery hunt is to early. Should be beginning of October. Maybe flip flop with the muzzy hunt. Just my 2 cents.

Has Anyone Got a Call to Update Cards????

Got a call around 1:30. They ran my card again. It cleared and we got 4 tags.
  4. You can hunt the Mercer Ranch for a small fee of $100.
  5. Does this qualify? My passwords also have to do with Coues deer.

    Vintage Long Range Javelina Killer

Here are some pics of the rifle I'm going to use on my Javelina hunt this year. It was given to me by the man who introduced to hunting, my Grandfather. He gave it to me over my three uncles and one older grandson. I guess he knew early on that I would be the only one that loves to hunt. I dated the serial number to 1912. The front sight had been filed down, I'm assuming for more range. I replaced the front sight and put a Marble's peep sight on the rear. Every time I shoot a deer or javelina he asks me "Did you use my rifle?", I reluctantly answer "No". He is 89 years old and I hope to finally shoot something with his rifle. Maybe I can use it for Cooz someday.

    Vintage Long Range Javelina Killer

It's chambered in 30 WCF. I wanted to use leverlution ammo but can't find any. Bought the last two boxes of the cheap Winchester stuff. Hopefully I can post some pics from a successful hunt.

    SAKO 85 FINNLIGHT .270 WSM

I also agree on the caliber. Last year i bought a 264 Win Mag looking for long range performance without a lot of recoil. It's ok but I should have bought the 270WSM. The BC on the 140gr and 150gr for the 270 is really good and with RL17 you can get some great velocities. I have a 300WSM and the RL17 is amazing for the short mags.
  11. If you reload, I would definetely look into a 6.5-06. If not a 270 Win.

    270 WSM reloading suggestions

Try Reloader 17. My 300WSM loves it. I use 67.5gr and 155gr Bergers, getting 3250fps one inch groups. Could use 69gr and get over 3300fps, but doesnt group as well.

    .270 wsm or 7mm wsm???

If you don't reload, then go with the 270WSM. If you do, then the 7mm. My $.02. The Best of The West guys love the 7mm.

Winchester Model 1894 Hex barrel 30-30

I have the same rifle dated to 1913, if I remember right, it also has a Pancho Villa story. It was my great grandfather's as well, he worked in the mines near Mammoth. Does yours have the long barrel? The one I have does. It was in pieces when my grandfather gave it to me. A friend of mine put it together and its a lot of fun to shoot. I might use it on a Javelina hunt, if I get drawn.

    Swarovski doublers

I was wondering if anyone has tried using two doubler on their binos? A doubler on each eyepiece. Is this even possible? I have one and was wondering if it would be worth it to buy another.

    optics

I have a doubler for my 15x Swarvo's, I'm not all that impressed. I guess glassing through with the bino's has spoiled me as compared to a spotting scope. I was wondering if any of you guys has tried using a doubler on each eye piece? Is this possible? +1 on the Swarvo's! A freind of mine has the Leica's that switch from 10 to 15 power, they are nice, but I love my Swarovski's. I know they are pricey, but you wont regret it!

    AR timney trigger

I've dealt with them only three times and cannot say enough. Not only do they have a great product, but the service is top notch. Josh installed two triggers for me and did a little extra work to my action, making it smoother than ever at no extra charge. Great company, highly recommended!
  19. Okay guys. I would very much appreciate your help! I have a limited opportunity archery cow tag. I have been scouting the 7-up Ranch area with not much to show. I'm wondering if any of you archery deer hunters have seen any elk in the area, Unit 18? I have an idea where I want to go, but any info would sure help as the herd is pretty scarce.

    140gr in a 300WSM

It looks like I will stick to 150gr. Ballistic Silvertips. I've shot two Coues with the Winchester load one at 328yds. and on at 407yds. Both performed well and left nice sized exit wounds. Thanks Guys.
  21. I am getting started in reloading and was wondering if anyone has ever tried this combination for Coues?

    140gr in a 300WSM

I noticed that Barnes, Hornady and Sierra offer a 130gr. Nosler a 125gr. Anyone ever try these?
  23. I am trying to decide which rifle I should use for my back up. It will be used primarily for Coues deer. I am trying to decide between my Weatherby Vangard in a .270 Win. or my Mossberg 810 in a 7mm Remington Mag. I will be reloading so I can make either one a little hotter. I've been thinking of the 130gr. Ballistic Tip for the .270 and the 140gr. BT for the 7mm. I think I can get close to 3200fps with both, that should be adequate. I think the more accurate rifle should probably get the nod. Any advice?

    Leupold vs. Nikon

I am looking for a new scope to put on my 300wsm. I use it to hunt Coues or Antelope. It has come down to the Nikon Monarch 4x16x42, Leupold VXII 4x12x50 or 4x12x40 AO. I am leaning to the Leupolds. Whats more important a 50mm obj. or AO?

    Back up Rifle

I am trying to decide on a back up to my .300wsm. I have a Weatherby Vangard in a .270 Win and a Mossberg 810 in a 7mm Remington Mag. I will be handloading so I can get a little more perfomance out of both. I plan on using a 130gr. BT for the .270 and 140gr. BT for the 7mm. I will primarily be hunting Coues and if I can get drawn Antelope. Thanks.
