My two favorites are my Rem 700 CDL SS in a 264WM shooting 140gr VLD's and my Weatherby Vanguard S2 in a 270WSM shooting 140gr VLD's. Here is my new toy I will be using this year. Savage 10T in a 6.5 CM. Probably shoot 143gr Hornady's. Haven't shot it yet but will let you know how it does.

I think the archery hunt is to early. Should be beginning of October. Maybe flip flop with the muzzy hunt. Just my 2 cents.

Got a call around 1:30. They ran my card again. It cleared and we got 4 tags.

Can you actually still hunt unit 32? And a AZGFD mini-rant.
Coues24A replied to sjpitts's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You can hunt the Mercer Ranch for a small fee of $100. -
You know you're addicted to coues when.....

Does this qualify? My passwords also have to do with Coues deer. -
Got hit for four deer tags.

It's chambered in 30 WCF. I wanted to use leverlution ammo but can't find any. Bought the last two boxes of the cheap Winchester stuff. Hopefully I can post some pics from a successful hunt.

Here are some pics of the rifle I'm going to use on my Javelina hunt this year. It was given to me by the man who introduced to hunting, my Grandfather. He gave it to me over my three uncles and one older grandson. I guess he knew early on that I would be the only one that loves to hunt. I dated the serial number to 1912. The front sight had been filed down, I'm assuming for more range. I replaced the front sight and put a Marble's peep sight on the rear. Every time I shoot a deer or javelina he asks me "Did you use my rifle?", I reluctantly answer "No". He is 89 years old and I hope to finally shoot something with his rifle. Maybe I can use it for Cooz someday.

I also agree on the caliber. Last year i bought a 264 Win Mag looking for long range performance without a lot of recoil. It's ok but I should have bought the 270WSM. The BC on the 140gr and 150gr for the 270 is really good and with RL17 you can get some great velocities. I have a 300WSM and the RL17 is amazing for the short mags.

Winchester model 70 caliber 30 06 into something else
Coues24A replied to seek100plus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you reload, I would definetely look into a 6.5-06. If not a 270 Win. -
6A South archery bull. Finally!

270 WSM reloading suggestions
Coues24A replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Try Reloader 17. My 300WSM loves it. I use 67.5gr and 155gr Bergers, getting 3250fps one inch groups. Could use 69gr and get over 3300fps, but doesnt group as well. -
If you don't reload, then go with the 270WSM. If you do, then the 7mm. My $.02. The Best of The West guys love the 7mm.

Winchester Model 1894 Hex barrel 30-30
Coues24A replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have the same rifle dated to 1913, if I remember right, it also has a Pancho Villa story. It was my great grandfather's as well, he worked in the mines near Mammoth. Does yours have the long barrel? The one I have does. It was in pieces when my grandfather gave it to me. A friend of mine put it together and its a lot of fun to shoot. I might use it on a Javelina hunt, if I get drawn.
