I've got MAYBE 40 rounds through it since I had the new barrel put on. Used it two years ago on my deer hunt and did some load workups and that's it.

woooohooooo! I wasn't expecting this at all. I'd like to thank the academy. My family, my friends, my agent, and all those who have supported me through the years. And most of all, I'd like to thank you...the fans! on a serious note. that was really fun. It goes to show how many different ways people can view the same bulls. And how a size of a head or body can throw us all for a loop. Now, let's just hope I can make the right judgements on my early bull hunt his year when they are coming in screamin at me.

There are actually quite a few based on the ease of applying and the fact that they only have to pay BY CREDIT CARD if they actually draw. Less time and money commitment = more applicants. It's like supply and demand. The easier or cheaper people can buy a product, the more people will.

SunDevil, I have to respectfully disagree with bringing back online applications. Two reasons: there were far too many "issues" with the online draw. 2. This makes it far too easy for every Tom, Dick, and Harry weekend warrior to lower our draw odds. Now, some will say that I'm just being selfish and that we need to help bring more hunters into the sport. Well, these weekend warriors are not the ones who are going to be fighting for hunter rights and our sport.

Doug, you make a great suggestion about removing the rubber strips on adapter plate. I have the 701 head and that is exactly what i did to remove that last bit of wiggle.

no, they look at both. if fact most people don't realize that they can kind of get screwed. If you put let's say unit 9 first and 8 second. you have 11 bonus points. Well, you're not in the max pool for 9 but you are for 8. you really never had a chance for 9 because you will get an 8 tag in the max point round. you basically waisted your first choice because you never had a chance for 9 in the second (random) round, because you already got a tag in the max. That is why it is critical to do your research and know where you sit.

The first round of drawing is the bonus pass (top 20%). In this round, they take everyone and place them in decsending order by number of bonus points along with a random number. They simply go down the list. 20 pts - gets a tag. then 19,18, etc. Now, if more people have, let's say 12 pts, than there are number of tags (20% of the total) then they do a random draw only with those people with 12 points. hope that helps.

Dubtee, you are close in your understanding but not quite there. The 10% NR rule does not take 10% right off the top. NR are in the same draw as everyone else and they don't automatically get 10%. This just caps the NR at 10%, and some years the 10% cap isn't even filled.

Very well thought out post, Doug. Those are almost my exact thoughts as well. The draw system works. And i had to wait 10 years for my archery bull tag, but I knew that I would have to be in for the long haul if I wanted that hunt. If we want to change anything, why don't we look at GF messed up "hunter opportunity" strategies that are ruining our herds/hunts? Seriously, over 800 tags in some units all at one time! That's rediculous.

Switchback, you're funny. And NO I don't work for them. Would never even consider working with them. I actually don't agree with most of the stuff they do. HOwever, I do agree with the draw process. That being said, I WAITED TEN YEARS FOR MY ARCHERY BULL TAG that I finally drew this year. My point is: if you want to hunt the premium units and time of year, be willing to dedicate yourself to that (it's worth the wait). HOwever, this system still makes it possible to draw without being in maximum points. Therefore, giving everyone a chance to draw AND simultaneously giving due advantage to those who have waited long enough to be in max point pool. Can you imagine how short this thread would be and how many fewer people would be trying to get through the phone lines if they knew they weren't getting drawn because they weren't in the max point pool? Also, anyone who does their homework can get a really good idea which hunts to put in for if they want to be in the max pool or guaranteed draw success. I was fairly confident I would get my tag this year based on the fact that I would be in the max pool based on last years draw data. There are alot of good units where you can be in the max pool with 11,10, or even 9 points.

Congrats to him. A great bull for a 14 year old. Sorry, but I don't see it coming close to 360. Maybe it's just me. Regardless, great bull for him. I hope to shoot a monster this year with my bull tag!

I'm sorry to say, but most people who complain about the draw really don't understand exactly how each part of the draw works. I have to agree with our draw system. The way it is designed, if you really want to draw a premium hunt, you can eventually be guaranteed a tag if you wait long enough to be in the max point pool. On the other hand, it does not require max points as you can obviously get lucky and draw a tag in the second round of the draw (random draw), such was the case with your buddy who drew with 0 points. Your friends with 11 and 12 points obviously put in for hunts where those amounts of points aren't in the max point pool, therefore putting there chances the same as everyone else in the general random draw (second round). I'm definately not saying that game and fish is perfect. I can go on for hours how I think they could make improvements, especially involving their "hunt structures" focused on more "hunter opportunity". But as far as the draw system, I think it's pretty good.

Putting them online first would also tie up their servers. So it's like, pick your poison. I think they will prob post online sometime after they close the offices today.
