I am sick and tired of hearing about your elk tag!
jbone replied to bobbyo's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Well said Desert Bull, shoot whatever makes you happy screw the rest of the "WELL HOW BIG IS IT" people. First question out of evryones mouth. -
I had a c tag last January and it was awesome, saw 59 bucks 128 deer total, some big bulls and a few lions. Bring your shot gun for all the quail. Every area I tried held a good number of deer and plenty of shooter bucks. I never saw another person the whole hunt or any headlights. Have fun, kill some lions while you are there.

Lance you must have some sneaky bulls and tricky spots to have bulls that grow all the way to september 10, the only bull I know of that is not hard horn by that time is possibly a spike. A normal mature elk will be hard horned by August 10-15 unless he is taking those magic beans your elk is taking. On the best of moisture years that bull won't go 450" when done growing at 1" a day, and on a bad year like this that bull will not go 410" at a 1/2" a day giving that it is 370" now. It will be a good year for all with that coveted elk tag, but the 380" plus bulls will be far and few between just like last year. 2002 was very similar to what we are seeing this year, and as we all remember finding a bull with a 50" plus beam was quite a challenge. These bulls will show signs of drought on the top end and mass. The important part is to enjoy your elk hunt and not worry about what the growth will be this year to last year or any year. Leave your ego's at home and have fun. It may be another 10-15 years before your next tag. Jason -
I want to cry, I broke my 15x60 Zeiss!

Last summer I dropped my 15's and bent the bridge and could not focus them either. I sent them to zeiss and got a call from them a month later saying they had to ship them to Germany. I said I need them for my hunts coming up, and they replied they did not know when they would be fixed. They offered to send me a loaner pair of 15's which I accepted. I had to give them my credit card number, I used them through January on all my hunts not thinking of my damged ones. In March 2007 I got a call from them saying that it would be $220 for the fix, which I paid, they also cleaned the binoculars and put new eye cups on them. Not a bad deal for my screw up but not near as good as leica or sworvski would have been. It was also 9 months without my binos, which I thought was rediculous. -
No More Motorized Retrieval Az Big Game
jbone replied to rthrbhntng's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Ultramag, not saying I would'nt drive to the bull 300 yards off the road if the circumstances warranted the retrieval, but you have bigger issues if you allow an animal to go green if the access is that easy. -
Just got back, no snow it was very green and birds everywhere. Have fun

What a joke, 900 tags for the west side 300 east side october 12!!! g&f and Mr. Buck don't have a clue, their excuse is to many older aged deer are being killed during early november. This is their answer to that problem. Now we can put 900 hunters on the west side and all hunt the same range, sounds like B.S. to me! Talk about a road hunters dream, thats all that will be going on. If you want a tag I imagine that would be a good bet for the fall. Got to be crazy if you want to be up there with 900 others with rifles in the summer range. But I guess that is their objective, increase hunter opportunity by increasing tags. Who needs deer in AZ!! I guess not us. The 1000 tags for juniors the 2 weeks before the late hunt is another Joke! Lets kill all the deer and screw up the ones that live so they are jumpy as heck for that once in a lifetime late tag.

I'll be there!!!

Competition for water holes during the elk hunt wasn't hard enough, now compete with all the archery deer hunters for the same water holes. Talk about some fights, g&f will need to update their hunter ethic procedures for water holes I guess. An archery deer tag is all most of us have and that's a shame for all of you with elk tags because you bet we'll be out there hunting since it may be another 14 years until we get a tag. Hopefully we archery deer hunters take into consideration the odds of that elk tag you got and give some room for you to hunt that bull of a lifetime. Hopefully you're not hunting in an area were a deer hunter has found that buck of a lifetime and camps out on the waterhole that your bull is using. I'm sure it will get pretty messy in september. I imagine we'll all have more trail cameras stolen than usual, due to so many hunters in the woods hunting and scouting. Thanks game and fish we appreciate what you do for hunting and opportunities in arizona!!! Truely a disgrace for our up and coming youth hunters and long time hunters. Jason

I have a tag for unit A for the 2008 January season, wondering if anyone had any info on the unit? I've done some looking around and have not located a shooter yet. I have hunted C in the past and have had great luck but they sold out first this year. Thanks for any help.

Outdoor hotspot. I have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath stick built house, vaulted ceilings, split floor plan, an attached 650 square foot garage, front and rear patio's, heat and ac, all utilities, 2 miles to the Roosevelt lake and it sits on a 1/2 acre enough room for a shop or detached garage. It was built in 2006, the floors are stained and stamped concrete for easy care. Coues, mule deer, elk, bear, javelina, quail, dove water fowl and anything else you can find to hunt along with the hottest fishing lake in Arizona. Surrounding units open for archery deer summer and winter. Tons of off road trails to ride quads or jeeps. Several supreme units to hunt for coues within a mornings drive of the house. Anybody looking for the perfect summer and winter get away this is it. Sad to get rid of it but it has to go, $189,000 or give me a reasonable offer and it will be yours.
