After looking at several great looking bucks, I was able to take Mr. Twister on Fain. It's not what it used to be, but still an exciting antelope hunt.

I will begin this by saying a HUGE thanks to my wife Tricia. This year she drew a second choice rifle goat tag for 19A, with 21 points and 18 years of not drawing a tag, she finally hit. Several weeks after the draw and a lot of discussion, she made the decision to transfer the tag to our 13 year old daughter, Hunter. After countless hours of glassing, scouting and driving to different areas, I became discouraged with the area. It's not the unit I bow hunted some 20+ years ago for sure. But I was not going to allow this to diminish from our hunt and the memories that come with it. Thanks to CWT, I tapped on a few members that were more familiar with the animals in the area and the unit as a whole. So I'll throw out some kudos to azcouesfanatic, chinohunter, HuntHarder and HUNTAZ. These guys threw me a couple bones after they finished their business in the area with no BS to sift thru, Thanks Guys!!! I decided to hunt Fain. There were a couple shooter bucks in there that would truly fit the bill for Hunter. Opening morning we were on the ground at 0330 making our way into the valley. Getting a jump was paramount, as the pressure in Fain would be intense from all the hunters I saw eyeballing the same area. We went in and made a move on the main buck. A couple hunters blew him out as they were working on a dink nearby. Our buck flew south over a mile out. We could see hunters in the area now working in on him. Not allowing this to ruin our hunt, we went after a buck I figured no one had seen yet this morning. I found him in a small bowl with his two does, right where we had left them the night before. We slinked in on him and set up on him at 350 yards. I pulled the white toilet paper trick and the buck and his does were closing the gap on us. I ranged him at 249. Hunter was on the bipod holding at 250. I asked her if she was ready. She replied "is it bigger than yours daddy?" I'm thinking , 'what the heck', this a great looking goat with some length and good mass. I told her this buck was very close to mine (79 1/8). She said she would shoot it. At 249 she center punched this buck in the engine room. He "pulled a wheelie" and ran 20 yards, stood with the drunk wobbly legs and piled up. After getting to the goat and looking him over, I told Hunter it's looking bigger than mine. She was happy beyond belief! We took some pics and got to watch the first buck we targeted get whacked by some hunters proned out, a mile away on a hill. We then humped the buck back to the truck. Tricia was elated about the story and the size of the buck. We got to camp and put some tape on this guy. Her buck green scored 82 1/8! An awesome buck for an equally awesome kid that 'Got 'er done'! What's a dad to do after that? Get that sucker mounted of course!

I was able to shoot a very nice buck opening day, late afternoon. After missing one of the target bucks early in the day, ( a story I don't want to re-live), I made good on a shot around 4:00pm. This too was a targeted buck I called Flair. A couple guys after seeing him said they named him Twister. Well Trister hit the dirt and is a very unique and twisted buck. This buck too was also taken on Fain. Met some awesome guys on this hunt that were successful as well. If you connected on a buck on Fain or Perkinsville area, let me know, very possible I might have a pic or two of your goat. If you're still in 19A hunting, touch base, there are still a couple doozies out there. Andy

I have the same gun in 270WSM. It shoots lights out with 5 round groups inside .5 off the bench all day. My daughter (16) was shooting inside 2.0 at 300 off the bench.

I normally put my daughter in for the Jr hunts first and second choice. General hunts thereafter. It's always a crap shoot, but the last five years has been more than rewarding. Just watch out for snakes and the heat, as it will limit animal movement. Best of luck in the draw. She also drew a Raymond ranch cow buffalo tag with 3 points and shot an 82 inch goat a couple years ago too. Keeping me on my toes for sure.

Daughters 82" from 19A when she was 13 years old. -
My daughter Hunter really loves hunting. She has been pretty successful in her first five years of hunting. Last year she wanted to try taking a javelina with her bow. Getting on several javis at close range, she became frustrated not being able to get a shot in the thick cover. This year she wanted to try it again. We hunted an area that was a little more open where she could get an arrow off. We got to the area early and were able to locate a group of five heading to a known bedding area. We double timed it to get in front of them and still keeping the wind right. We were able to get to an ambush spot as the javi's worked their way to the bedding area. As we looked them over, one stood out that was significantly much bigger than the others. She locked on the big one and drew back undetected. The big one was quartering towards us at twenty yards. She took the shot and hit inside the left shoulder. It startled the herd and the big one stood, looking at the fletched shaft sticking out of its chest. It was bleeding profusely. Before I could tell her to shoot again, I see another arrow go through the same shoulder. The massive javi took three steps and rolled over, kicked it's back feet a couple times an was done. The entire event was over in thirty seconds. The javi was a massive boar with well worn molars and very large tusks. We guessed it was close to eighty pounds on the hoof. It field dressed at 66.5 pounds. After gutting this thug, we found that the second arrow punched the top half of it heart. Green measurements on this guy are just over 15". I'm guessing this 15 year old is gonna be hooked on bow hunting for many years to come. Sorry, pics are sideways, tried to fix that, no dice on that.

Daughter takes her first archery Javi***UPDATED***
hunter01 replied to hunter01's topic in Youth Hunters
We recently had Hunter's javelina officially scored for the Bow Hunting in Arizona Record book. It scored 15" even after the drying period. Looking at the BIA record book, this should place it at 5th place(tie) in the Archery book. She is pretty happy as this was her first archery javi. and we are hoping it will be a contender in the Bi-annual awards. -
