I am probably running headfirst into a buzz saw, but according to their site:

    https://www.gohunt.com/insider/draw-odds

    DRAW ODDS

The most accurate draw odds ever.

Our data scientists and hunters have combined proprietary formulas and state data to reveal your true chance to draw hunts in the West.

It is just an estimate. Usually hunt odds dont change super drastically from year to year unless it's when a newer hunt gets noticed. It does help a lot though! Especially when it comes to an APP strategy! Just paints a picture on what you ca  roughly expect! They are still extremely accurate though! That .2% of a chance difference from each site doesnt matter a whole ton anyways. Your name is still put into the hat anyways!

How many yrs have you been applying for hunts.

I have been applying for deer for about 7 years.

But elk I've applied 3 times ever. I just bonus point this year because I am going to be moving out this summer and I don't want to stretch my money out too far!

      I thought it was 20%??

Lance is right on the rest of it! The bonus pass is 20%. But go on youtube and look up Randy Newberg explaining it! Makes it a whole lot better!

But to answer your question YES you do have 5 chances at the tag pretty much! Because even people with 0 points have the single chance to get a tag!

5 points can get you any cow elk hunt in the state if you're talking 5 points for elk. Or you can even get a late rifle bull tag with 5 also!

  4. I personally gotten 4 of my friends into hunting. I encourage it. Unfortunately it can make it tough but things are changing. Would you rather the liberals get to these people who havent hunted ,or us?

I wouldnt doubt if the OTC archery went to draw tags for NR but I imagine one day a whole new draw structure will be made too. Some states make you wait after you get a harvest for a few years. While other states make you put in for either elk antelope and deer, OR moose, moutain goat, and bighorn. Itll be hard at first, but it is for the better!

Well ill have to wait on hold. Now people will have trouble the last night on Tuesday and screenshot everything cause they couldn't put in and this is gonna turn into a big mess.

Yeah it sucks man. Like usually there is some issues and phone lines flood the last few days. But this time is just a mess. Might need an extension for the due date on the apps

It’s an awesome hobby and you’ll catch pics of stuff you didn’t even know was around.  Years ago I got pics of a jaguarundi in southeastern Az.  Had no idea those things even existed, much less in Az.

There was a guy in here named Jason Miller that put together some really cool videos he’d done with trail cam pics and videos.  Has a cool YouTube channel jason Miller outdoors.  Check him out

Absolutely! I was going to do the same exact thing!

Wrong again, if he chooses never to try and take any big game animal off this salt or water he'll be fine.

That's the plan. I had 4 groups of people walk up to my blind while I was hunting in the matter of 2 days. Too many people! Hate it! But there is a deer population! So i just wanna get cool photos and videos and post them up each week. I never used a camera before and Josiah showed me them and i thought they were neat. He showed me all the pictures of elk through each month and it was super cool! I think itll be a nice hobby

So...after filling out the elk app, I started filling out the antelope app. When I put in my license # the "auto-fill dropdown" showed the # I had previously entered, missing a digit. That was the "oh crap!" moment. This is the first goof on an app in 40+ years of applying.

I had to do that for my father a few years ago actually. I accidentally put in my number with the auto fill instead of his. They were kind enough to help me! I imagine they'll do the same to you!

Ya that’s going to look great out on public land. I’ll grab my camera and haul the family out there for some beautiful photos and memories.

Great memories like these right? I wouldn't think of building a tank if this BS here didnt happen

But you know. Let's ban trail cameras also right dude? Screw catching these a-holes who do this crap.

With how much of a drought we have there wont be much to get any pictures of anything. But yeah let's go destroy water sources and not make new ones. Then ban trail cameras because you know, that makes the quality of the deer go up all the sudden, not the fact you're supplying them with basic needs. Go say that to fish and game bud. Bet they'll love you like everyone else on the forum

  10. Some people said I was legal to put out a tub without a platform to catch water too. So that maybe an option. If I am allowed to build one itd be like this right here. I wouldnt really wanna use it for hunting. More of getting cool trail camera pictures. Just for a hobby because I dont really like hunting that unit. To many ATV traffic and weekend warriors.

ThomC doesn't hunt or for that matter, leave his mom's basement.  Take his comments with a grain of salt.

Most everyone I've talked to has said creating another source of water isn't illegal in its self, but littering could technically be.  So depending on how you construct it, id say you could be good or technically litter.  Not sure if they'd actually prosecute it tho.

I decided to email someone who helps with water at fish and game. And he gave me the BLM number and email. He was worried about the same thing with littering

No.  Is it your property?  Do you lease the property?  Putting out salt has to be a normal ranching situation.  Read the regs and it might be better if you dont post it on the internet.

Where in the regs does it say that? I havent seen it yet and I just wanna see it in writing, I had a few others reach out and tell me that salt is allowed on public lands, and some even put out tubs and put their own water in it too. So I just wanna get a clear reading of it

You can drop a mineral lick pretty much anywhere you want. If cattle are near they will use it up quickly.  Its better to get the big bags of loose salt and dig a hole and mix it all in the dirt. Water it in if possible.  Dont know about a water catch.

    Sounds good! Thank you!

  14. Hey guys! So this Thursday I wanted to go out and try to build a water catchment in an area near by! Recently I had one of my favorite spots was used as a mud bog and I wanted to try and take that out of the equation. I saw a few forums in the past around 2010 asking the same thing and it was legal then, so is it still legal on public land? Also would I be allowed to drop a mineral lick?

I do not intend on hunting this spot, more of just a hobby to get cool photos of deer, javelinas, and even cardinals (pretty cool birds out there). Thank you!

  15. With this trail camera ban would I be allowed to put a camera in a mule deer area I know from let's say Febuary through July? The area does not have an early OTC archery season, and the first season is I believe a youth hunt in Mid October. So if I take my camera down early enough (July) would that count as "aiding in taking game"

I just wanna watch antler growth
