    A Tom for TJ

VERY cool! I had the pleasure of going on a lion hunt a couple of years ago. Didn't get one, but had the experience of a lifetime! I'm hooked, and will do it again eventually! Thanks for posting the footage on this forum! S.
  6. Good PR, for sure. Figuring that anyone who voted for Obama isn't much of a gun enthusiast anyway, so they're unlikely to lose much business..... Of course, from a 'PR' perspective, they will likely gain business just by publicly making that statement. Doesn't look like channel 15 has been able to get hold of the owner for details. S.

    Father Son Coues Deer Hunt

AWESOME story and great pics! VERY cool that you and your dad can still experience these times together. My father is 86 now, and really doesn't get out much at all anymore. I have many years of amazing memories that we have shared together though! Thanks for sharing the story and pics with the site! S.
  9. +1 twigsnapper!!!! NOTHING like buck fever! Love it! (Last month while on the Kiabab Jr. hunt with my 13 year old daughter, she was lining-up on a deer that she was about to shoot. I was right behind her, in her ear telling her to relax, breath, squeeze slow, etc. At one point I asked her if she was calm.... She took her face away from the scope of the .308 and looked me square in the eye and said "Are YOU calm dad?"!! She then calmly put her cheed back on the stalk of the rifle and dropped the deer in it's tracks! lol) I get buck fever whether I am behind the trigger or not! Awesome for you and your brother kennyazman!!! Thanks for sharing the story and pics! S.

is ther a way purposily get an application rejected?

My advice would be to call the G&F and ask them for some options, Sounds like there may be some options. S. PS: I feel for your friend with the torn Rotary Cuff. I tore/detached mine and had a cartliage separation (plus a fracture...) while on my kid's junior hunt in early October. I'm now one week out of surgery and getting ready to start rehab. Hurts like a son of a gun! Hoping to be ready to carry a back-pack for the early Dec whitetail hunt! Good luck to your buddy!!!!!

    2012 Junior Deer Hunt

It had been a couple of years, but my two youngest kids once again wanted to put in for the Kiabab Antlerless hunt. We put Nicky, Greta, and two of their friends in on one application and they were lucky enough to get drawn. A buddy's son from Tucson also got drawn, so we had 5 kids in our camp with tags. The hunt had some ups and downs, but overall was a blast! In addition to four dads with 5 hunters, I had two other great friends join just for the camping & fun! We ended-up with seven adults and nine kids in our camp. Awesome time! Like I said, there were ups and downs! First the 'down': On opening morning I was walking in the dark around the front of my pick-up to start it and warm it up. I ended-up tripping over a tent stake, and did a header directly into the front-right wheel well of my pick-up! Got-up to wipe the snow/mud off of myself and found that my left arm wasn't working. Hurt like @%$^%@!!!! Of course I stuck it out and hunted all weekend. Went to the M.D. last Monday, to discover I broke my left shoulder in several places plus 'separated it'! Looks like surgery may be in my near future...... I'll find-out early this week when the surgeon looks at the M.R.I. results. OK, now to the 'ups'! We had an amazing time on the Kiabab!!! A little sloppy weather on Friday, but that didn't keep us down! Saturday and Sunday were beautiful days! All five kids had their deer by Noon on day two, and we then spent the rest of the time just relaxing, cooking, laughing, etc..... LOTS OF FUN!! Also, another factoid, there were five deer killed on this hunt and only five shots fired! All junior hunters made great 'one shot' kills on their deer! A few pics below! S. PS: I know that some folks are not fond of this hunt, as they don't want any does/antlerless deer being killed (since it ultimately means less bucks). That being said, it is a GREAT opportunity for a youngster to have a fun hunt with lots of animals seen. We always love it, and I'm glad the kids got drawn. Greta and Annie on opening morning! Looking at the way Greta is bundled-up, you would think it was -20 degrees!!! Nick and his deer. He shot it about 20 minutes into opening morning! Around Noon on opening day we came back to camp for some brunch/breakfast. This is the weather we dealt with on and off for most of the day! Greta and Annie relaxing and having fun while breakfast was being cooked! Campfire time! Dutch-oven meals every night!!! My little sweetie and I with her deer! A little 'button buck' shot on the second morning. She's learning how to skin! All five kids and their trophys!

    Christmas Tree cutting

+1 on being prepared for road conditions and on the size thing (They are always WAY bigger in the living-room! )! We used to always cut pinons here in AZ, but also have since preferred spruce...... I'm 47 now, but since I was a tiny tike my family has made a tradition of cutting our own trees. Now I take my own kids..... Used to pick permits up OTC in Globe on the way to the annual event! LOL They used to give permits for pinons in the 7 Mile Wash area, and we always went there. We have always made a BIG picnic of it over the years. Guitars, afternoon campfire, chili, corn bread, coffee/cocoa and lots of fun! We usuallly go the first weekend or two of December. Great memories for sure, Non-Typical! The one thing I think you'll find if you've never cut your own before is that as long as you keep it in water, it will be the most green/fresh tree you will ever have! The ones sold at Home Depot and the 'tree lots' have been cut already or are being cut as we speak! Cut your own the first week or two of December, and you'll have the best fresh tree you've ever had!! Have fun gmcbob, and get a good one! S.

    High Centered

Saw this a few times via various news sources this week. Pretty funny pic, I think. They were obviously note engineers or geometry thinkers..... Reminds me of a time or two as a teenager getting my dad's Suburban high-centered on various obsticles while trying to get the extra 1/4 of a mile while quail hunting with my buddies. Learned a few lessons back then....... Like how to use a High Lift jack and a shovel!! Not sure I get your point about 'still tolerating it' though? What are we tolerating? S.

    Killing small bucks

I don't necessarily see killing ANYTHING as a 'great accomplishment', Jbird. I don't think it makes me accomplished to kill something. I just think it is something fun that I like to do. When I go hunting with my friends or kids, I just like to have a good time and try to fill my tag or help them fill theirs. It's fun, I get to be outside where I love to be, and I get to be with folks I know and love. Brings me back to my childhood, and I enjoy that. Kind of like a homecoming each year......That's all it is to me. "don't get hung up on scores. Get hung up on hunting" lark Where is he anyway? BTW; I find it a bit ironic that you quoted Lark's words above. Isn't what he was saying a bit contradictory to your original point in this thread? Either way, this is a great debate! Opinions galore.... Happy hunting all! S. PS: Not sure what state you are in, but here in AZ it has never been illegal to kill spikes. At least not in the past 40 years or so.....
