Which rifle for a youth hunter?
stanley replied to SteveKDC's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
This topic has been covered here before, but never gets old!! One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the type of rifle, as opposed to the caliber (unless I missed it....). When I was in college, I picked-up a Remington 7400 .308 (It's a semi-auto, for those that don't know.). Basically, I got it dirt cheap at a time when I only owned a 30-30, so I thought it would be good to own a .308 (semi-auto or not). Well, it turns-out that 20 years later that .308 worked-out great for my kids. The semi-auto action makes a great 'shock absorber' for the recoil. The rifle has a very mild kick. All three of them became shooters and killed their first big game animials with it at a young age. For safety reasons, as they were in their early years I just had them use it as a single-shot. I left the clip at home so we had to load the rounds one at a time. My $.02...... S. PS: Here's a couple of oldies but a goodies! Little Greta with her first deer and the Remington 7400 on display! -
YES!!! Will no doubt be an awesome show!!! I'll be there if I'm in town! S.

2 1/2 Times the Number of Elk and Pronghorn Applicants
stanley replied to mpriest's topic in Elk Hunting
2 1/2 times? I have a VERY hard time believing that number..... Think about it practically and logically. Seems I've seen statistics that have shown year over year that haveing the on-line system vs. paper does not make that significant of an impact on the number of applications. Suppose the actual numbers will come out soon enough. To answer your question, the impact to the draw odds will end-up being impacted exactly proportionately to the number of applicants. As said before though, I can not imagine there is any possible way that there were actually 2 1/2 times the applicants. S. -
Here's a teaser...... Yes, it was a fun hunt indeed! azslim ranging some pigs for a couple of hunters just prior to the final stalk! S.

Nice! I like it! S.

I'm glad they extended it if the system was not working/performing as it should to handle the last minute volume. Hmmm...... This scenario sounds familiar! Anyone care to debate the virtues (or not) of the on-line draw again??? Popcorn please! S.

Yea, I suppose I don't necessarily disagree. My only point is that this is nothing new. Happens with every election, whether the pres is coming into a lame duck term or not. Just happens.....

Direct insult to American taxpayer? Outrage by media? Marching on Washington? Huh? lol What reason is there for those things? Like archerycrazy said, it's not 'public' money. There are parades and huge parties through for EVERY inaguration. Every four years they get bigger and bigger. Doesn't have to do with Obama, Democrats, Republicans, etc..... There will be big parties for this event every four years. S.

As far as shooting 'from or over' a road, you've definitely got it! You must be at lease one step off of the 'maintained' roadway. As far as 'road hunting' goes though, I believe that all of the rules/regulations refer to 'hunting from a vehicle' as opposed to 'road hunting'. So whether you're on a maintained road or an old wagon trail the rules still apply. S.
