Holy smokes! And I thought fishing in Canada was exciting! AWESOME!!!!! What an adventure that must have been! Thanks for sharing! S.

Awesome pics!!! I've never been for bill/sail fish, but would love to sometime. My motion-sickness afliction (I'm an expert, believe me..... ) keeps me on-shore. Maybe someday I'll venture there though.... Great pics and memories! Thanks for sharing! S.

Wow, wild story. So you were really South of the border?? Suppose we all need to pay attention to what land we are actually hunting on! I've never had a problem in the 36's....... Hunted solo, with friends, and with my children. Never a problem. S.

Hey Hector! Missed your reply earlier. Yes, the trip was a blast. I had never been on a fly-in trip, not to mention way up in Canada. Was a great time with some good guys. Views from the boats and plane were constantly impressing me! Trying to enjoy lifes pleasures...... Let's try to hunt or glass together this fall!! (Or at least get together for a beer! ) S.

It's been a busy couple of months for me. One kid off to ASU and my little girl finally in high school, plus lots of work along the way. That being said, we found some time for fun! Took almost three weeks off starting in mid-July for a couple of vacations. The first 10 days were spent on a fishing trip in Ontario, Canada and the last 1/2 in San Diego with the kids. Lots of adventure and relaxation! First was Canada! I was fortunate enough to be invited with some friends on a trip that they do every year. 8 of us flew into a remote lake in Northwest Ontario for 7 days of amazing fishing. We were after Northern Pike and Walleye. 100% catch/release, except for the Walleye we kept for dinner every other day or so. I had never been to Canada or on a 'fly-in' trip before, and it GREATLY exceeded my expectations! Here are a couple of pics/clips: SORRY FOR THE SIZE. Working on re-sizing files! Loading the float plane for the trip into the cabin I got to ride shotgun on the plane-ride in! One of the MANY Walleye that we caught. Sunset from the deck on the cabin we were staying in. End of a long/great day of fishing...... Look at this sucker! Won the 'Big Fish' award for the week! I was lucky enough to be in the boat with Bill when he caught it! Here is a quick clip of Bill reeling-in that big one. This was my first view of a BIG Northern Pike. Think I get buck fever when hunting deer? Turn-up your speakers and listen to me have a meltdown when I got a look at this pig! lol (VERY short video) Gene and one of TWO 40+ in Northern Pike that he caught during the week! Again, I was lucky enough to be in the boat with him when he brought this thing in. Lure hitting the water on a cool and misty morning........ (credit for this pic goes to Matt, not me....) Fishing an amazing little inlet/portage area between lakes. Amazing country!! BTW, both of those big Northern Pike were caught on ultra-light 6lb test tackle. Awesome fun!!!! After the Canadian wilderness trip, it was awesome to spend a week on the beach with the kids on Coronado Island just chilling! No pics uploaded from that trip, but everyone knows what Boogie-boarding on the beach looks like! Happy summer to everyone and good luck in the fall!!!! S.

Thanks Non-Typical Solutions! Yes it was a great time! Actually, that's pretty funny about the 'lip landing'.....! I was a TOTAL novice and had no idea, and hence was not completely prepared. Can you say TEETH??? If you notice, the guys holding the two large Northern Pike in the pictures are wearing golf cloves on their left hand. Still, they preferred to go 'over the top' or under the gill-plate (careful of the gills) to land as opposed to in the mouth! Upon landing the first big one on the pics above, Bill decided to go into the mouth to 'lip land' the fish. After all was done and the fish was released, his glove was bloody..... And it was not fish blood! S.

Didn't see any bears until the fly-out, Snapshot. One was spotted from the air shortly after take-off. The outfitter that dropped us thought we might see some moose and/or caribou during the week, but we saw neither. The outfitter does drop camps for archery moose in the fall, so I suppose there are some in the area.... Yes TJ, it was a GREAT summer break from the rat-race! The Canada trip was a great check-mark on my life's bucket list, and beach time with the kids is always a real treasure! Here's a quick link to a youtube folder I just opened with some more fishing videos. Look for the "Gene landing the BIG ONE" clip! The guys I went with have a 'gentlemans' policy of NO landing nets! All fish must be landed with-out nets, and no assistance! This was a requirement for bragging rights! Gene man-handled this big thing in! Lots of fun! Fishing videos -> http://www.youtube.com/user/stanleyaz1?feature=watch Plus here's a personal favorite fishing video...... S.

I'll be on a Junior hunt with my boy in mid-November. Stay in touch and I'll share some scouting info! S.

Way to go! Good luck to her in the fall draw!!! S.

I like this thread!!! Here's why I trophy hunt! I didn't kill a single one of them, but they are still trophies to me! Sorry, I could go on and on! Again, I really like the spirit of this thread. "Trophy" hunting is in the eye of the beholder, IMO. I as well, have not killed an animal personally for several years. The pictures and memories of ANY good time in the field with my loved-ones are my trophy. S.

Can't stop watching any/all media & blogging coverage of the entire thing. At the same time, I can't seem to discuss it with anyone without starting to choke & tear-up. Bless them and their families & loved ones! S.

+1!!! Love the markings on those Brookies! Check-out the outline on those fins! Soooo wish I was hiking-in to some of those Boulder Mt. lakes! Thanks for sharing the pic. S.

Maybe 40s at night, more likely 50s though. Days will likely be pretty confortable, especially in the mornings. If the Summer weather holds though, you could easily have HOT days (95+). Sunscreen and shade will be your friend while glassing during the day! S.

I was looking at all the other pictures thinking "nice bear" then I got to that picture next to the full size crew cab truck.... Holy Smoke, those bears are big!!! Great pics! +1!!!! Amazing!

Nice! Never heard that before. Born and raised in Kearny! Son of a miner. Dad was an engineer/geologist in the Ray pitm WAY back! Copper put me through college and beyond! Long live the open pit miners! S. PS: Back then, you could pick-up a DEC coues 'left over' tag in 32/33 as an addition to a muley tag! I never took advantage of that opportunity then. How times have changed.....

SOOOOOO AWESOME!!!! Lord, they grow-up quick. I miss those days with my little tots.... Thanks for sharing! S.

LOL on the 'out running...' comment! Seriously though, if you're doing some serious glassing during your hunt there is a small chance that you will see a lion. Might want to be prepared with an OTC tag in your pocket! S.

+1 on the mesquite! Prime BBQ/grill wood! VERY unlikely you will find any/much water in any of the creek beds. NP using radios here in AZ, as far as I know. We use them all the time, and have had G&F officers in our camp and utilizing them as well. Shouldn't be a problem. Awesome that you and your crew are taking-on this adventure! Lots of good folks here to give you advice. Good luck! S.

Forest closed this morning-rather stealthily done
stanley replied to biglakejake's topic in The Campfire
Saw 'red flag warnings' for much of Northern AZ this morning on the weather report while I was getting ready for work. I thought about the fire danger, but didn't think of the dead trees. Looks like they're worried extra worried about folks getting injured by a falling tree and the liabilitiy that could/would go with it. Bummer S. -
Been years since I've been up there. A shame it is closed-off now. The good ol' days..... S.
