    Kaibab Jr. Doe Hunt

Such an AWESOME hunt! All three of my kids killed their first deer on that one! Jcubed said it; There will likely still be deer all over for that hunt. We have always focused on the middle elevations (Ponderosa/Oak). You should not have a problem getting into deer almost anywhere though! http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/35932-2012-junior-deer-hunt/http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/35932-2012-junior-deer-hunt/ Have fun! October...

I'm going to scratch that itch in 3 weeks on a muley hunt up in Utah. Not coues, but will keep me tied over until I get down into the 36's with the kids in November. I'll be looking forward to some coues stories come late October! S.

    Another 24A question

Depends on how high-up you want to camp. There are places to trailer camp along the Dripping Springs road to the South of the Pinals. Good luck! S.

    Daughters First Hunt

+1 Have fun!!!! I've gotten SO much joy hunting with my children over the years. Cook some marshmallows at night, eat some good food along the way (including junk food), look at the birds while glassing for deer, and sit on a ridge with her while the sun rises and sets..... Also, take pictures! S.

lions without a dog...can it be done?

Heck TJ, I didn't know you had three under your belt! You are the 'no dog' lion killing KING! S.
  15. BTW, I did have a pretty funny 'dove zombie' story from last weekend! I had loaned my vest to one of the kids last weekend, so was just kind of hunting with shells in pockets and not place to put my birds. I stayed close to the truck and noticed the empty Duncan Donuts box on the tail gate, so I started putting my birds in the Duncan box (again, no vest......). Well, a bit later one of the little girls who was along was back at the trucks for a water break and thought she would see if there were any donuts left. I look over just in time to see her open the lid while this big zombie dove decides to come back to life in the box! She jumped back and we all had a good laugh! S.
  16. I know people who've done this. I believe this is what really keeps the small game vest makers in business! Has happened before to me, and just happened again this season! Kids and I had a great time last weekend and shot LOTS of doves! Came home from work yesterday and the house had a funky-stink to it. Didn't take long for my nose to take me to the utility closet where I store my shot shells and vests (inside of a Rubber Made container). Holy STINK!!! And that was only after 5 days..... Ended-up throwing away the vest that had the dead bird plus the vest that was sitting underneath it! You're right! Time to buy two new vests now..... S.

Anybody using a levergun for Coues?

Awesome thread! Kudos for the lever actions! I have a 1894 Winchester 30-30 that my dad passed to me when I was young. Killed a couple of things with it then put it away for many years (other than fun target shooting/plinking...). Over the past couple of years though, I've had a hankering to use it on a deer again! I'm going to haul it along on my hunts in the future to try to kill a deer with it. Full buckhorn iron sights! I guess the way I look at it is if a coues can be killed spot/stalk with a bow, then I better be able to get within iron-sight range with my 30-30! S.

    camp cook

In another 10 years or so (once I get the last of the kids through college.... ) I'm going to quit the rat-race and loan myself out for FREE to cook, clean, pick guitar strings, and generaly be the 'camp helper' for my friends and anyone else who has a cool place to hunt! Absolutely love tending to dutch-ovens and a campfire all day long! S.

Daughter has first Elk tag, 6A in Oct

VERY awesome pics, SirRoyal! Also very cool that your little one has a tag this year, ACTS! Along with awesome pics, SirRoyal gave good advice. Get off the roads a 1/4-1/2 mile or more, and you will likely find elk. Quiet Areas are a great place in 6A! S.
  22. Cheaper the better, IMO. Never seems to have an impact on my low kill % anyway..... S.
  23. VERY awesome!!!! Great pics and it looks like a GREAT time with the young man! Good pics! Thanks for sharing..... I went to a friend's dairy and killed a limit before work today. Love dove season! S.
