Wish I could help you, D.F.M.! I don't know any specific spots, but I know a lot of folks head out towards Buckeye & Gila Bend. There are some places out there that sometimes have some awesome flights of doves. A few years ago, we had some good luck setting-up on some open land about a 1/2 mile from a dairy we spotted. Need to be careful of private land and developments though.... Good luck! S.

Yea, that's the one I'm eye-balling. I like the fact that it packs-up and is fairly small. The reviews talk about having to stoke it in the middle of the night, but many stove reviews say the same thing. Right now I'm not using anything but a cheap little propane thing for 'spot heat' in the morning. Always thought I might like to try-out a wood stove since the tent is designed to handle one. Between Utah and AZ (plus a Jr. hunt with my son) I've got FOUR deer/elk hunts lined-up for this Fall so I thought it might be a good season to try out a stove! Definitely will fill it full of mesquite! (and haul some up to Utah!) With all of the interest on this thread, I'll keep my fingers crossed on you selling this one. Sure seems like a good one for someone who wants that size! S.

Political Discussions request
stanley replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
OK Willie, I undestand what you are saying but you have not addressed what I am wrong about? I simply stated that censorship applies to public speach/communication not private institutions. (that is correct, not wrong) It is not much different than if you invite someone into your house. If you don't like what they are saying or doing, you can ask them to quit or leave because it is YOUR house. No censorship, simply you deciding what you want to occur in your house. Same principle applies here. That's all I was trying to say. S. -
Great clarification! I've got two slumberjacks plus one of the Disc-o-bunks when I want to sleep four. It does get crowded...... I suppose that at some point, no matter how big/small the stove is it just wouldn't be practical for me to squeeze that plus 3-4 sleepers in. I notice that Cabela's has the Sheep Herder stoves, and it looks like one of them is a little smaller. Wonder how that would work?? http://www.cabelas.com/product/Sheepherders-Alaskan-and-Packer-Stoves/744761.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fproduct.jsp%3FproductId%3D716016&categoryIds=104791680%7C104757480%7C104627880%7C&WTz_l=RI%3BIK-519238 Either way, good luck on selling this stove! Censorship doesn't apply at all in this case. This is not a public forum. This is a private forum which belongs to Amanda that we all had to sign-up for in order to post. When we sign-up to post, we agree to the rules/guidelines. It's not about fear of speaking the truth, 'right wing' views, 'left wing' views, or anything else like that. It's called 'topic moderation' and virtually any/all internet forums have it. Simple as that. S.- 56 replies

Saw this link and was interested until you mentioned that it was too big for your Alaknak 12x12. That is the exact tent that I have, and I was thinking of purchasing a wood stove for it. Are you going to get a new stove? Have you decided which size/model you are going to go with? Again, I would be curious as I am thinking of purchasing one for my tent as well. S. PS: Good luck selling this stove! Looks like a good deal on a nice stove for someone!

Bitter? No, not at all. The third pic down actually looks like it could be your typical Southern AZ wash! Wonder if he's local.... S.

A good friend took an aluminum down with with noting but an oar, his electronic caller, and a rifle. That river took him into some country nobody had predator hunted for quite a spell. He shot 2 bobcats and a number of foxes on that river trip. He said a few times a dead tree had fallen over parts of the river and he had to push the boat down so it would pass under the timber. Says it took waaay longer than he expected. The Gila can be fun! I grew-up in Kearny, and we used to tube from there to Kelvin all the time. As an adult I've been back to canoe it a few times. I've pretty much canoed the entire stretch from above Winkleman all the way down to the coke ovens (Cochran) at various times. Took a shotgun and jump-shot ducks one fall. Haven't done it in years though...... As teens we were warned of the dangers of tubing on the river because it used to have LOTS of heavy overhanging brush all along the way and a couple of barbed wire fences. As an adult on my canoe I was much more cautious (especially with the barbed wire). If anyone doses the Gila, beware of those things. The occasional large flood will scour some of the brush out for a season or two...... S.

Uh..... What is the 'normal' you're referring to? 10 cents a round with a two box limit is normal? If that was what you were referring to, then unfortunately I think you might be right. These prices (and for now, availability) ARE the new normal, IMO. S. PS: Thanks for posting azhuntnut! Hopefully some forum members who want some ammo can get over their and get some.

Youth Outdoors Unlimited Hunter Education Camp
stanley replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Woody, Bill and the crew REALLY know how to do this stuff! Their passion for Arizona youth hunting is amazing! I'm glad that you and Paul were able to attend and get him certified! Kudos to Youth Outdoors Unlimited! S. -
Pays to have a VERY smart scientist in the family! Outstanding news that Paul is recovering, Amanda! S.

Follow the link that I posted above. It will take you to the G&F page that has the calendar. On the calendar, you will find the info on the Jr. camp, along with a link to a map! S.

Christian: I'm excited for any youngster that has this tag! All three of my kids (and some of their friends) killed their first deer on the Jr. hunt on the Kiabab! As you've figured-out, there are LOTS of deer there! No hunt is a guarentee though, especially if it's your first time hunting. Here is some advice; I would recommend you check the G&F site and get tuned-in to the Jr. Camp that is always hosted . http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/MentoredHuntingCamps.shtml Especially as a new hunter, they can & will provide you will lots of support/advice (plus usually some decent burgers/dogs)! Here is some information on that camp; Kaibab Deer Junior’s Base Camp When: Oct 9 – 12, 2014 Where: North Rim Grand Canyon (map) Description: Kaibab deer hunting information and assistance, biology and habits, some food, campfire. • Location: North Rim Grand Canyon, Unit 12A, SR22 & FR429 • Hosted by: Buckskin Chapter Arizona Deer Association • Information: Rich Leightner, releightner@ thebigpond.com, (928) 645-9669 As has been mentioned the deer can and will be found all over the Kiabab, especially in early October. We've had the most luck in the mid-altitudes in October (Ponderosa/Oak type of elevation....). As for camping areas, we've always enjoyed camping along the 462 road. There are many 'two tracks' that head to the West off of the 462 (753, 773, 275, 462A) that run on the tops of ridges with great deer hunting in the canyons and along the ridges all along the way. That is our favorite area and has never let us down! Get yourself a Kiabab National Forest map, if you don't already have one. Sincere good luck to you on your first hunt! Be sure to tell us a story when you return! S.

The case was not decided by a judge. It was decided by a jury. Chris Kyle told lies about Jesse Ventura (and published them in his book). Ventura claimed that those lies impacted his income and personal life. Jury agreed and awarded him the judgement. I agree that it seems lame from our perspective that Ventura 'went after' Kyle's estate. Seems to me like he could have just looked to try to get an apology or retraction out of the situation, as opposed to the financial judgement. For me, the bottom line is this; SUCKS that Chris Kyle told lies about Ventura in his book. SUCKS that Kyle's widow/children will be impacted due to the estate having to pay. BTW, I agree with your comment on politicians! Desertbull, that is a VERY intersting point regarding 9/11 orchestration! S. PS: ctafoya: It is OK to say something bad about anyone you want. It is not OK to publish lies that defame someone.
