Not sure what tact you are taking, but if you were/are experiencing lots of gunfire in your area, then maybe get deeper into those steep, nasty, catclaw infested mountains! My advice would be to strap on a good headlamp and hit it about 90 minutes before light! Get some elevation and a couple of miles in between you and the closest road before it gets light enough to shoot, and then sit down behind your binoculars and glass, glass, glass! Keep at it and good luck!! S.

Hey Ken! Yes, I have felt your pain! With three spaced out I was able to 'hand them down' from kid to kid..... All of mine are now in adult shoes. Sorry, none of our used youth sized boots are in much of a condition to pass along. That being said, I wanted to respond to mention maybe checking with one of those places that deals in used sporting goods. There is a place called C & S Sporting Goods on 7th Street over here in Central Phx (7th just North of Bethany Home Road). They always have a pretty nice selection of youth sizes in lots of shoes from baseball cleats to hiking boots! Maybe check them out or any used sporting goods place close to you? Maybe even Good Will? Good luck!!! S.

Hunting 36c this weekend!
stanley replied to 520AZcountryboy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I've camped in 36C alone several times. Really not a big deal, IMO..... What area are you planning on camping? There are usually spots where you can find other camps within close proximity, if you're looking for less solitude at night. Good luck on the hunt! S. -
And a big ol' glass of milk to wash it all down!! Perfect! Sitting here on a BORING conference call at work with my mouth watering!! S.

Wish you would have stopped by. We heard the the shots from over there! Congrats! Next time stop by for a cold one! The pressure was a little higher just to the west of us in that bowl. We stayed further east and didn't see as many people. We could see your headlamps moving up the mountain over there every morning. Ha!! "Shots" as in, plural.... Yep, that was us! We both shot twice on Friday morning and missed clean. Long, ill planned shots.... Then on Sunday morning my buddy took two shots to bring his deer down (that was about 6:45 on Sunday...). Maybe see you on a future hunt down there.... Next time I won't be so shy and will definitely stop! S.

Hey Mocha1545! I was camped right near you guys! Saw the coueswhitetail sticker and meant to stop in to say hello, but never ended-up making it by (I was in a white 4 door Tacoma & my buddy had a white Jeep.... We were camped in the Alaknak tent a few hundred yards down the two-track by your camp...). Glad you guys had a good time!! We parked in the lot up by the ranch and hiked back in approx. 3 miles each day. Saw multiple bucks each day, and my buddy finally connected on a nice one on Sunday morning. Did you guys hunt those hills/mountains where you took the picture of the petroglyphs? I've hunted in that area in years past with some good success, though it can sometimes get a little pressure..... Awesome that your buddy killed his first buck!! Anyway, it's awesome that you all had a good time! I'll make it a point to stop in and say hello next time I drive past a camp with a cw.com sticker in the window! S.

Way to go, Nick!!! THAT is what it is all about, my friend!!! The 30-30 with iron sights makes it that much more awesome, IMO (something a little nostalgic about that... )!! Awesome for your boy!!! I agree that kudos go to the AZ G&F for offering this hunt for the young ones. All three of my children killed their first deer on this hunt, and it was an amazing experience for them! I was up there again this past weekend with a friend and his two kids for their first deer kills. Can't get enough of the Jr. Hunts!!! Thanks for sharing with the site!! S.

Question about hours and pay as a salaried employee
stanley replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
+ 1 to some of the other comments. Like many others here, I work in the 'corporate' world. This is standard practice.... Nothing new or out of the ordinary. Exempt vs. Non-exempt employees are treated different legally. Exempt employees (salaried) do not get compensated for the hours they work. They get compensated for the work they do. Six months of 7x per week sounds a bit extreme, and I would be surprised if that is actually the case (they would lose too many people to attrition, IMO....). I basically work 7 days per week, 365 per year because I have a large organization I am responsible for. There are always phone calls, working nights, etc. I'm lucky though, in that there is flexibility afforded to those who burn the midnight oil. If I or someone who works for me works off hours or extremely long hours for a period of itme, the option is there to flex time around and get a little time off to keep from going crazy and/or getting burned-out.
