    HOW DO YOU CAMP

Lots of good ones. A foam pad will take any cot to the next level. I split an old 4” memory foam mattress down the middle and I use that as a topper.

    HOW DO YOU CAMP

+1 on this. Almost always a cot under the stars, and occasionally just the truck bed with my 4 inch foam cot mattress topper. I'll bring my 12x12 Alaknak and/or 12x14 tarp with poles if there is probability of weather. Usually one night in cheapy motel if feeling like a shower break. Never done the local gym angle for the shower. Good idea...

Torn rotator cuff. Any home remedies?

PT over surgery is an interesting choice. Is that short-term to get you ready for the August hunt? Or permanent? Curious because I have had both shoulders done (surgery). The first one was a no brainer due to a severe/complete tear, plus ancillary problems (separation, broken collar bone, etc.). The second one on the other shoulder was a relatively minor tear. My surgeon suggested repair as opposed to PT on the minor tear based on his opinion that the PT had a low chance of getting back to 100% recovery. Post-op & PT, both shoulders are basically back to 100%, so I'm of course satisfied with the route I took. Sincere good luck on finding some natural alternatives to help the healing! Hope you can hunt in August!!!👊
  4. That's awesome, @CatfishKev! Super cool that he is taking that step! I grew up in Kearny and just had my 40 year high school reunion, and was able to reconnect with folks I had not seen in MANY years. Several of my old classmates stayed local after high school and got on with the mine and/or ancillary support companies or functions. Saw lots of folks doing great and/or already retired (with some on to double-dipping second careers...). Growing up there I saw ups and downs with strikes and layoffs, but over time the mine was a great source of employment for lots of folks! @Adicted, I'm also curious about Dylan! Hope he's doing well!

    Greatest Generation

Extra-long fishing weekend in the White Mountains, so just saw this. Dad arrived in early May as a 20 year old 2nd Lieutenant B-17 Navigator. His first mission was on May 30th, which basically kicked-off a week of almost daily missions leading up to D-day. I have his original record of 'combat missions completed' (I keep it in a plastic sleave to try to preserve it...). His 6th mission was on June 6th, and the objective is listed as 'Invasion Coast'. If you know D-day history as it pertains to the B-17s, it didn't go as planned. Due to cloud cover, the vast majority of the bombers over-shot their targets and dropped the bombs too far inland. Either way, he was there trying to do his part. All of those dudes are my heroes!

Black River Fishing Near Pump Station

Best way is to take a trip and feel it out for yourself . Follow a map and/or the signs to the pump station. Pretty easy to find and great fishing (both spinning and fly) can be found up or down the river from there 😉 https://www.sancarlosrecreationwildlife.com/fishing-permits You can either stop by the tribe office in Peridot or buy one online at the above link.

    San Diego lodging

Like a lot of Zonies, I have been going every year for basically my entire life. Parents are long gone, but my siblings and I have kept up the tradition for our extended families. Lately we’ve been staying in Mission Beach because the younger kids like it there. (I rent a four bedroom so there’s room for my young adults kids plus GFs/BFs and you’re right, it is NOT cheap!) A couple of slightly lower cost alternatives are Carlsbad/Oceanside or Ocean Beach. Maybe try browsing options in those areas?? Hope you find a good place and enjoy! 👊🏼

    Quail hatch

No ifs, ands or buts, it WILL be a great season next fall (at least for Gambels...). Like clockwork, given the solid winter/spring precipitation (at least in most areas), there will be a lot of birds. Most certainly a 'double hatch' year and possibly triple. LOVE IT!

    Volkswagen bug

Could be a fun project card, indeed! I had a 69 bug went in high school. Saved up money bagging groceries and bought a rebuilt 1600cc engine for it. Had a lot of fun tinkering with that car and learning….. Good memories! Good luck with the sale!
  14. I prefer under 100 for my Vizsla. Which isn't a problem because she's so clingy she never roams more than 75 yards out anyway.... LOL

    Monday Check in

Nice stair-climber work. Have gotten around to some of the AZ Trail sections with elevation ups/downs, recently. Did Four Peaks last month and the Huachuca's weekend before last (Miller Peak ain't no joke! 😩). Rincons next weekend. FINALLY starting to feel like my legs are shaping-up. S.

    Anyone else freeze drying?

Ummm….. Thanks! My answer was going to be; FDA? Who’s that?!? LOL

    Anyone else freeze drying?

My nephew bought a big freeze dryer a few years ago, mainly for veggies. He has since partnered with someone in the Route 66 tourist trade and he does freeze dried candy (Skittles, sweet tarts, gummy bears). His partner packs them and has them placed in tourist stops along Route 66. Kids go crazy for them and they’re making a killing. 😂 He assumes the candy fad will pass….

    Proposed hunt guidelines

Am I missing something? Looks like they are proposing an overall drop in number of permits. Some units increased by a few and some decreased by a few, but overall a drop of 875 total. (24B as an example looks like it has same number of permits as last year, I think?) Not saying that some units have what appear to be an overload of permits authorized but seems like it's been that way for quite a while. Ever since they made the 'opportunity' push several years ago.
  20. I am looking for any welders in the Central or East valley for a VERY small job (I have two 1/8 metal plates that I want to weld/tack on to the top posts....). Either professional welder at a shop, or anyone who knows how and can do it at home. Any welders out there? Thanks! S.

Yup! It's all right there. Thanks @twigsnapper!! Here it is again, for those who missed it. If you follow that link, there is a year-over year accounting of the projects and how much money was allocated. Easy-peasy. Habitat Partnership Committee - Arizona Game & Fish Department (azgfd.com)
  22. Cool. Zero time table on it. In fact, I don't even have the parts yet. Just sort of doing some early prospecting. Once I get the two metal plates and posts I'll reach-out and see if we can work something out. Thanks a bunch! S.

SFW and/or ASFW, I think..... Yep, went over about like you described. lol
  24. I did a search here prior to posting and found several references. Thought I would start a new thread, though.... Anyone out there that has taken-on (or is currently taking-on) the AZT?? I've got several friends who have either finished it or are at some stage of progress. I've been intrigued for years and now have a buddy that has committed, so I'm going to go for it! Now that the decision has been made, I find myself a little obsessed. A couple of guys I know that just finished last Fall insisted on doing it from South to North, taking each passage in order (1-43). I'm thinking we'll do each passage hiking north bound but will flex around on dates and locations for completion. Likely will kick-off with an initial expedition in the next couple of weeks, and then maybe try to do a couple of weekends per month after that, depending on availability. Haven't set a goal for completion yet... (I'm an empty-nester with lots of time/freedom, but he's still got a life to tend to... lol) So? Anyone doing it??? S. Arizona Trail - Any Fanatics???

At my age, just time outside enjoying the scenery and comradery is enough of a goal for me.... No less hunting/fishing, just additional time outside.
