+1 Never owned a Kodiak, but a couple of buddies have them and they seem to go up pretty easily! That being said, I have a 12X12 Alaknak, and I find it quite easy to put up. I have done it solo several times. Is a bit time consuming due to all of the stakes/ropes/poles, but it is easy. Generally takes me 20 minutes. S.

I didn't even realize they made a 9.5X. I have been using my 12X12 for 7+ years now, and I love it. Whether it be with my three kids (all grown and off to college now) or my hunting buddies, it has been an outstanding tent! Still is! Betting this size would be just about right for 2 or possibly 3 with bunks, comfortably! Bump for a great tent! Good luck selling! S.

Very awesome story!!! Awesome!!!!! S.

Outstanding!!! My son and I are heading over to New Mexico in a couple of weeks. We have never hunted pronghorn, and we are VERY excited! Thanks for sharing with the site! S.

I've been with Lee's Ferry Anglers a few times over the years. I try to go with Terry if possible. Have enjoyed his company & his style (and his knowledge). As for the preferred time, I think that is of course a matter of opinion. Winter can be good, but cleaning ice out of your rod eyes can get old. Summer is nice, but can be HOT! Not matter what time of year, I've never regretted spending time there! Spectacular place! Good luck and have fun! S. PS: Lee's Ferry Anglers will take spin fisherman. They will encourage you to fly fish and show you some great techniques, but they welcome spin fishers.

There is an Orvis store in Scottsdale. A new new Orvis store in my neighborhood @ 20th Street & Camelback also. FYI if you're closer to Central Phx. S.

I've got a 2015 Toyota Tacoma (long bed), and I am just starting to shop a bit for a shell/cap. Browsing online to start... Leer SNUGtop ARE Experience good or bad? Opinions? Thanks! S.

Thanks a bunch for all of the opinions, guys. Exactly what I was looking for! I got on the phone with a guy named Doug, from Camperland yesterday afternoon. Really nice guy! Took the time over the phone to walk me through lots of pros-cons for the various models & manufacturers they carry (Leer, Snug, and ARE). Seems that all three brands are pretty comparable, and it might just kind of come down to personal opinion. Looks like a couple of votes for ARE here. Cell4soul, I had never considered that type of cover. Interesting, and cool that you are liking it at this point. Thanks again, everyone! S.

All good, Tyler! Coincidentally, just last night a buddy of mine was asking about my set-up and I told him one of the keys is a good floating head! Timing seemed perfect when I saw this post, so I thought I would pick it up for him! Like I said though, all is good. Glad JLG got a great deal on a great Manfrotto head! s.

I'll take it if for any reason it falls through with Tyler. Thx! S.

Hey Matt! Welcome to the site! As you can probably tell, you will find LOTS of experience, information, and opinions here. I'm sure you'll get several responses, but the process is really pretty easy. I would download the 2017 regulations and start studying them a bit to get familiar with the units, dates, species info, etc. (sounds like you might have already done that). Once you decide what unit, it will be just a matter of submitting the application next spring. Easy to do on-line. Send me a message here if you would like, and I would be happy to get on the phone with you to talk about the process and coach you a bit. Regarding which unit to choose, there are of course MANY options. You mentioned 12A archery, and that is of course a great hunt. Draw odds aren't too tough, though admittedly I am not sure of the non-resident quota, odds, etc. Call or text if you would like to chat further (602-399-4769). Lots of guys here know a lot more than I do, but I'll share some of my experience. Welcome again! S.

37b general areas my wife's first hunt
stanley replied to hempland's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Yes Partly paved. But it is a 'highway', so the dirt part is easily passable. A little wash-boardy here and there..... S. -
Wish I had a nickel for everyone dove or quail I missed with one of these guns! +1 on a classic! Someone aught to snatch that beauty up! S.

Personally, I would recommend this hunt for a first timer, second timer, third, whatever..... This hunt is flat-out, FUN!! We spent many great times up there with my three kids (all 18+ now), and friend's kids. Just an amazing time! S.

My first choice (drawn, of course...) is on the leftover list! What's that old saying about one man's trash??

Hunts for Heroes at Get Outdoors Expo this weekend!
stanley replied to Lv2hnt's topic in The Campfire
Hey Tom! Thanks for posting this! I'm going to try to go to the expo on Saturday. I'll definitely stop in and visit if I make it there! I have a TOTALLY unrelated question though regarding tickets. Do I understand the website correctly, that tickets must be purchased in advance, or can I purchase at the door?? Thanks! S. -
Some of my best hunting days EVER, were on the Kiabab chasing does with my three kids (all adults now). Enjoy that hunt!!! S.

Yup! $435! (That's what I get for adding an out of state buddy to my application.... )

how? i dont think that would stand up in court. maybe youre a lawyer. Nope, not a lawyer. I just play one on TV. My only point is that non-refundable deposits have been around for ever. If you sign a contract or acknowledgement that you understand the policy and that if you cancel there will be no refund (or partial penalty, cancelation penalty, etc.), then you owe it. The fact that non-refundable deposits have been standard practice in many business's for so long tells me that the concept has already been challenged and held-up in court. Call me crazy, but in the history of business, I'm guessing it has been challenged at least once (likely many times) in court already.
-
No goods or services have to be exchanged for it to be a valid charge. The policy of 'non-refundable deposit' in business has been around a LONG time. Plus, in the internet age, the act of actually signing something has taken on a whole new meaning as well.... Willingly giving your card number knowing that there is a non-refundable deposit policy, I think would pretty much qualify it as a valid charge. S.

Can anyone share experience or offer a referral on a New Mexico landowner pronghorn tag? My oldest has always wanted to hunt pronghorn, and I was thinking of maybe buying a landowner permit as a college graduation present. Did a little Google searching to start, but would MUCH rather get a referral or advice from someone here. Thanks in advance for any help or info! S. PS: Of course feel free to PM me, or post here. Either way.... Thx!
-
I'm all set, thanks guys!! (Zeke, based on your description , I'm pretty sure we bought tags from the same guy. 😉). Thanks again to everyone for the info/referrals. My son and I are looking forward to a great trip! S.

Hot yoga 3-4 times per week. 70 minutes of heated work-out. Instructor at the place I go does a good job of mixing in LOTS of push-ups and crunches in throughout the workout. (Walking out reminds me of exiting the wrestling room in high school! ) S.
-
Very cool! Did you go DIY? Family or friends up there?? I'm in the early stages of researching a trip up there. Hoping to take my two college age sons in the next year or two. Thinking of a week or so starting in Anchorage, renting a car and then just kind of exploring along Kenai Penninsula or something. Your pics have me inspired!! Thanks for sharing! S.

Whats the longest youve left an Elk in the field
stanley replied to trphyhntr's topic in Elk Hunting
Bones or no bones, either way I'm thinking the conclusion for me always has been: Skin off and guts out ASAP (gutless method counts) Good game bags (Or suitable substitute. NO garbage bags!) Shade Air (preferably cool/cold air) Then of course, after you get it out of the field/camp, there is the whole 'hanging/aging' debate! LOT'S of opinions there! S.
