    New wall tent learnings

Yup, that all makes sense! I have not had a wall tent before, but have heard that one of the advantages of canvas over what I currently have (Alaknak synthetic....) is that the canvas breaths much better. That's why it surprise me to see the tarp. Your reasoning makes sense though. Thx! S.

    New wall tent learnings

Looks like a great set-up! I've used an Alaknak for years, and have been consdering a wall tent for my next one. Question: Why use the tarp over the canvas? Thanks! S.

    Opening day deer

Heading to the airport in about an hour to pick-up one of my oldest friends. All loaded-up!! Will pick him up and drive directly South to one of the border units. Cots under the stars tonight, with a 4AM wake-up tomorrow to hike the three miles in the dark to our glassing spot. Glass glass the morning, then spend tomorrow setting-up a proper camp for the next 5 days. There will be several good friends, plus my son in camp. I have that feeling like it's Christmas Eve! Good luck to everyone!!! S. PS: Lance, I suspect you'll find a way to keep yourself busy! You always do! The Junior Camps are always looking for mentors/glassers.

No Fish on the Lower Black!!!!!

Wow, that sucks! Also strange since some of the guys were posting some pretty darn good reports earlier this past summer. Bummer!!!! Like a lot of folks, I used to go up there at least once per year. We would fish up higher than the White/Black confluence, but still the lower portion of the river. Of course used to be outstanding. This summer we had pretty good luck again in some of our old favorite areas. Seemed like maybe it was finally starting to come back. Sucks if it is taking a turn for the worse....
  10. Anyone who knows me knows that I am an absolute FREAK for Junior hunts! My kids are all young adults now, so their official youth hunting days are over. I'm of course fortunate to still hunt with them whenever possible, even though adulthood, college, life, etc. makes it harder to corral them up. In fact, I'll be out on the early hunt with my oldest son next weekend, and I can't wait! I know we'll be reliving many of the old times around the fire, and that is awesome to think about! That being said, I of course can't help but notice all of the success stories and pics being posted this year! Maybe folks are just posting more success stories or something, but it feels like this has been a great year! There are over 30 recent success stories here in the Youth Hunters forum! Keep posting them up!! SO AWESOME!!! Keep getting them out there moms, dads (and all other mentors)! Good stuff!!! S. PS: I hope to be down at the 36A Jr. camp helping out over Thanksgiving weekend! Say hello if you have a kid there!

    Bump fire stock

My $.02 is that it would be great if you just named a price (what ever it is) and posted that. Auctions & bidding wars suck. Guy puts an honest offer forward, only to be 'upped' by $10 an hour later. I suppose I get that you are "testing the waters", but I say do your research (which you already did, I think) and then name your price and accept a fair offer. Good luck selling! S.

    Quail Hunt

No snakes where we were hunting. I was actually a bit surprised given the weather. Seemed like perfect snake temps in the mid-late morning. We'll often see them crossing the washes & roads where we hunt, but none this time.

    Ruger m77

I really LOVE those M77's, Bobby! Just picked-up a great .30-06 here on this site a couple of months ago that I plan on using for the early rifle coues hunt in a couple of weeks. Good luck selling! Bump for a great rifle! S.

    Quail Hunt

So did anyone else get out last weekend? Turkey and squirrel opening weekend coinciding with the quail opener forces you to pick a side between the three species. Between the three, I always side with chasing Gambels for opening weekend!! Went out to my old favorite stomping grounds on Friday & Sunday this past weekend. Plenty of birds. Likely could have had limits had it not been for my poor shooting and knocking-off a bit early each day. Overall, I would rate the Gambels population this year as pretty darn good (at least in my favorite areas). Man, as a side note, those ridges lining the sand washes get a little steeper each year, don't they? I know azbirdhunter88 got out and did well! How did everyone else do?? S.
