I'm interested in the ammo!

Yup, they are still out. Came across a rattler in the dark evening before last while on a night-hike in Phoenix Mountain Preserve (Dreamy Draw...). Did me the courtesy of rattling a couple of feet out so I could do one of those crazy jump-turn moves! 😂 S.

New to Dove - Where to Start?
stanley replied to GeronimoMMXI's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Dove can & will be found along almost any wash, river bed, or field (Or a dairy, if you're lucky enough to find a contact that has one and will let you hunt.). Excellent spots can be hard to find though, and information on excellent locations is generally held tight. I joined a friend on a mule deer hunt along the Gila river valley SW of Phoenix a couple of weeks ago. If you want to explore a bit, you will likely find a spot or two. Go to Gila Bend, and then head west on I-8. Google Painted Rock, Agua Caliente, Palomas..... There is lots of state/public land that borders cotton, alfalfa, and river bottom. Not 'dairy level' hunting, but there are doves there. This area is just an example. There are areas closer and further. Good luck! -
Miracle Mile is STILL awesome!!! After closing at Park Central they moved to Colonnade for a bit, and are now in a free standing building at 16th Street & Campbell. The Straw sandwich is the best!

Was 18 in the summer of 83’. Spent a few nights at “teen night” at the Devil House that summer, learning the ropes. 😉🤣

I remember as a kid in the mid-70s, that Wallace and Ladmo would show-up at the Kearny Pioneer Days carnival each year and hand-out Ladmo bags. Never was lucky enough to score one, though. Fun thread.... LOTS of memories being recalled from the late-70s & early 80s. S.

Find an area with as much country as possible between roads (big chunks of roadless land.....). Hike-in in the dark to get as far as reasonably possible from roads. Set-up and glass all day long. Good luck!!

Veteran’s Day Quail limit
stanley replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
That’s awesome! I took advantage of the holiday and did the same thing. Limits being the norm makes this year a BUNCH of fun!!! Good stuff! S. -
+1 on the leader vs. boss. A boss, well 'bosses'.... A boss tells people what to do. A boss monitors and tells workers when they are screwing-up without offer support or help on how not too. A boss places blame on their team, as opposed to 100% support A boss is bossy. LOL A leader motivates & inspires. A leader takes ALL the heat. A leader supports. A leader listens more than they speak. A leader learns. A leader asks their team what else they need to get the work done. A leader breaks-down barriers that their team is facing. Etc.... Good luck in the new job!

I usually try to stay away from the 'mushy' topics, but Father's Day and Veteran's Day are the two dates each year that my heart settles firmly on him! He was my hero and a great role model, friend, and mentor. Of course also a great dad! Happy day to ALL dads!!!! S. Circa 1966. Getting ready for a bomb dropping mission. Home on leave the winter of 44', just prior to shipping out to England. A 20 year old 2nd Lieutenant navigator.

Bird law in this country—it's not governed by reason.

Amanda (site owner) is literally a biologist who specializes in OWLS!! Like, a bona fide owl expert!! 😂 Maybe she'll see this and chime-in. -
I got to my polling place at 5AM, and was third in line (Sort of a 'voting nerd' tradition of mine to try to be first in line.... ). Was done by 6:15, so about the same for me.

I've been fortunate enough to get to know Amanda over the last 15+ years. Silently being a good person and living a life centered on positivity and helping others is how she rolls. Truly the epitome of class. S.

Yes, for me. Both on the early deer hunt last weekend, and quail hunting the week prior. Perfect snake weather right now. Watch your ankles!!!

+1 for SW Wildlife.

Inside cutting area is roughly 22X42 inches. Lost about an inch on the sides and approx 3 inches on each end to account for the moat & hand-holes Good idea indeed, Kevin, but credit goes to Jeff (original poster). He put the idea in my head when I picked it up. 😉

Thanks. Was pretty easy. You have the tools?? If not, c’mon over (I live in south Scottsdale.). We can knock it out in less than an hour. 😉

Update! When I picked one of these up from Jeff, he suggested that they will take standard wood-working tools fairly well. So this morning I broke-out the router & jig-saw, and had at it! Cut a handle on each end. Next I used the router to round-off all edges, and to cut a little moat (blood/juice catcher) around the top. Super easy, so thought I would share. Thanks again, Jeff. S.

Born and raised in AZ, and finally saw my first lion last weekend. Unfortunately it was in a canyon I was glassing on opening day of the early deer season down south, so surprise, we saw no deer that morning! 🤣 Saw THREE! Assuming either a mother and a couple of adolescents or three adolescent siblings. Anyway, I snapped a couple of pics through the Swaros and thought I would share here (Only got pics of two.....). Thinking I might buy me one of those phone-scope thingys.
