Don't have anything new to add to all of the above input/comments. I echo most of them. I would simply reiterate to soak it up and have fun!! My three kids are 25, 23, and 21 now. The time I've spent in the field with them over the past 15-20 years is by FAR the best times I have had hunting. To this day, even as young adults, there is no greater joy than spending time with them in the field and on occasion standing over their shoulder as they pull the trigger on an animal. Precious times!! S.

Yup, it's actually not that uncommon at all to be asked what is being shipped. Not all places ask all the time, but it's not unusual.

Eh, not really a single 'best' way.... If there is a scammer posting in the forum, then I think the 'report' function, or an IM to myself or one of the other admins is fine. In this case, the scammer was not posting. They were sending IMs (I checked, and they had ZERO posts). Since they had not posts to 'report', then an IM to myself or one of the other admins would work. Or as in this case, a public call-out. Really, just anything to bring visibility to it will usually get the attention of myself or one of the other admins.

They're gone now.

Per Big Tub's comments, Mearns could be tough this year. They rely greatly on the monsoon summer rain. Either way, there are always some opportunities out there! Can't wait!

Sounds awesome, Andrew! Enjoy!! S.

Yup, sort of like clockwork. We generally had good precipitation last winter/spring, and historically that is THE major driver for Gambel's. I haven't been out to my favorite desert quail spots for several months, so I'm glad to hear it's panning out. We are SO blessed here in AZ with four months of continuous quail hunting, starting next month! Can't wait for the season to open!!

Great Dove season so far

Indeed, cool coloring on that one. No let up at the dairy we hunt. Still limits of Mourning & Whitewings. Plus as usual, about twice that many Eurasians. Crazy fun!!! -
Nice!! Always cool to get it on film!

Ya, regarding the political aspect/spin, I had posed the question a while back regarding union vs. non-union historically equaling Democrat vs. Republican. It is always interesting to me that some of those who purport to be fairly staunch Republicans sometimes also appear to be big fans of unions. I grew-up in a mining town too (Kearny / Ray Pit). My dad, however was on the opposite side of the unions, in that he was an engineer/geologist (management). In fact, he was one of the negotiators for the company side when there were strikes. Was sometimes interesting at school because the vast majority of my friend's fathers were union guys, and here was my dad standing firm on the 'other' side. LOL I am definitely not a fan of unions. Not because of my family history, but simply because I am a very firm believer in the free market system. Supply/demand, and all that goes with it. If someone is willing to do a job for a lower hourly cost than union labor costs, then I think that is the way it should be. These are points, of course have already been shared in this thread. All that being said though, it does not mean that I don't appreciate the hard work that ALL laborers, craftsmen, tradesmen, etc. do! Kudos to the hardworking folks of America!!! Here's to you on Labor Day!!! S.

Outstanding!!! Been doing great at the dairy that we hunt, as well! Watched the demo on that wild game washing bucket. Looks awesome!!! We have sort of been doing the same thing from scratch for the past few years, in that we bring a bucket and a couple of big containers of water with us to the dairy. When we are ready to clean the birds, we fill the bucket 1/2 full of water, gather around and start 'breasting' the birds. The breasts go into the water, and we start to swish around manually and skim feathers off the top. We will then drain and freshen the water a time or two while skimming feathers/debris. Looks like kind of the same effect. I didn't realize that someone had actually commercialized it! Happy hunting, all!!! S. -
'Who cares....' Those are true words of wisdom and great perspective, Andrew!! I need to ask myself that before I post next time. Absolutely zero use in getting wrapped around the axle on this stuff. At the end of the day, I really don't care.

To specifically answer your question, no, I didn't find it strange. It is not that uncommon for someone making a long range shot to only load a single cartridge into their rifle at a time. Regarding your "guarantee" that those weren't the only two shots taken, do you have any facts or actual basis for that statement, or simply speculation? (It would be fairly easy to verify with eye witness accounts based on the number of folks on the hill.....) How can you guarantee that?

I have a friend looking for one. If it's a 10X10, I'll take it! Will PM you. Thanks!

Great deal on that beef!!! I would go grab some, but trying to be optimistic and save freezer space for upcoming hunts. 🤣

Umm...... The other one.

Went to New Mexico last weekend, and was fortunate to kill an average buck (Lance knows where... ). A trophy to me! My sons and I only hunted pronghorn for the first time just three years ago, and I was immediately impressed with the meat. Super delicious!! Anyway, I saw a post many years ago on that other site about pressure canning game pronghorn, and was intrigued enough to try it out. (Obviously it could be used with ANY meat, but I chose pronghorn.....). So it was basically super simple. I got some canning jars and stuffed them full of pronghorn scraps. Put a 1/2 bullion cube into the jar, and also a couple of spicy jalapeno slices in some of them. Pressure cooked according to instruction - 15psi for 90 minutes. It came out really awesome!! It's like pot roast in a jar! I'm assuming others are doing this??? Happy eating, all!!! S. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The boned & prepped meat. No, I did NOT use the back straps!! LOL LOL Those are amazing cooked rare in the cast iron skillet! Finished canned (bottled) meat. Tasty! So then I decided to experiment a bit. I used larger jars, and added carrots, celery, and onion (mirepoix), plus some new-potatos and a 1/2 bullion cube. Instant stew!!! Don't have the 'after' pic, but it's not much to look at anyway! LOL Suffice to say, tasted excellent!

Indeed, Hector. It has been WAY too long since we've spent time in the field together.

Go Get 'Em

Anymore, the majority that I see look more like this one! Seems like starting about three or four years ago, the Eurasian population has exploded where we hunt. By the time we have a limit of mourning and/or white wings, we generally each have twice that many collard doves! One of my buddies described it as; "The best thing to happen to Arizona dove hunting in a long time!" LOL Makes for lots and lots of shooting fun! -
No idea on specific spots, but I know if I had an October cow tag in an unfamiliar unit that I would try to get up there a week or two prior to listen for bugles. Cruise around at night and early morning to various spots and listen for bugling elk. Easy way to locate general locations from a distance. Not a slam dunk, but there is a pretty fair chance that the elk will be int he same general spots during your hunt. Good luck!

Can it PLEASE be hunting season, already!!! 🙄

Ya, it's interesting regarding all of the spectators. My view on that is that I remember back in the old days as a kid in Kearny in the 70s. If word got out that someone's dad got a nice muley (we didn't hunt coues then...), it wouldn't be long before friends and family, young and old, showed-up to admire it and talk about it. It might have been in a local wash out in the desert, or it might already have been hanging in someone's carport & being skinned. Was just sort of the way it was back then. Fond memories.... It's of course at a TOTALLY different level with a situation such as this with the governor's tag, but I guess people just want to see it and be a part of it. I'm guessing many stories will be told throughout the years by people who got to see it in person and lay hands on it.

Eh, had some laughs a time or two with that in college. Ended up not really being my thing, which was likely a good thing. Plenty of other substances out there that kill brain cells just fine....

Several years ago I sort of got on a mushroom hunting kick. It was super cool, and a fun thing to add to fishing trips to the White Mountains & Rim when my kids were younger (and sweeter). I found the 'Arizona Mushroom Society' online, and actually talked to some dude there to try to get info on mushroom identification. To Chef's point, this guy would NOT help me over the phone or with pics. He said that it is way too risky, even for him to be identifying some of them via pics. He offered to have me join him on some of their club excursions to the woods to learn, which might have been fun but I never had quite that level of interest or time. The only ones that ever became sort of no-brainers for me were what are called "oily" or "slimy" mushrooms. They are yellowish in color, and like catfishkev said, they have no ridges underneath. They are just sort of spongy looking. Lots of them grow in AZ. Pretty easy to find, but I don't think they are considered a very desirable variety. Anyway, good luck with the mushrooms!! S.

Ugh..... Speaking of hating. I always hate myself for getting dragged into pointless internet debates. But here I am.... Doing it. 😋 For me, the bottom line is I generally try not to throw stones at other's houses. Never know when my glass home is exposed, so I will keep my mouth shut about others. Regarding your characterization and name calling, well I guess I just don't see the point in saying that type of thing about a situation and/or a person I know nothing about. BTW, did you actually watch the video carefully and listen?? I heard and saw NO high-fives by JJ after the first shot. What I heard was JJ concerned that he made a good hit, and asking for more ammo. I then heard follow-up shot. After the second shot and the bull was down, I heard only gratitude and happy chit-chat. Whatever though, Bill. We all see and hear what we want in life, I suppose. Keep on hating, man! It's a classy look. 🤣
