What do you think this buck scores?
stanley replied to Lorona24A's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'm Stan Johnsen, and graduated in 83. My sister graduated with Clell (then married Sam L.). Anyway, always good to see some home town folks on the site. Sorry to hi-jack the thread Lorona24! Once again, I say it's a big hummer! S. -
What do you think this buck scores?
stanley replied to Lorona24A's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I think all of the Loronas in Kearny are related. My sister has been a 'Lorona' for 25 years (married one...). Who did you meet in school? Did you live in Kearny Dotshot? What is your family's name? S. -

stanley replied to Lorona24A's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'm not much into scoring, so I won't venture a guess except to say that it is a BIG SUCKER!! Kearny buck??? S. -
I think it's only illegal to bait for bears. I know lots of guys are putting salt out for deer/elk (anything...) these days, and I don't think that there is anything illegal about it. S.

Hunting Accidents
stanley replied to desertsheep's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Doug, you're killing me!! I to, tangled with a fish hook once. I was spending the summer in Lakeside with a buddie's family in their cabin when I was somewhere around 10 years old or so. I ended-up wearing a good sized Mepps spinner as an earing for a few of hours until the doctor could dig it out. Screamed like a little girl!!! S. -
Off season hobbys???
stanley replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Man, I LOVE Molly Butlers! Always have.... I remember going there as a kid in the summer and loving playing pool or pinball & goofing-off. Food was great, and now I love the fact that my kids are getting turned on to it. Get there early for the prime rib!!! Good stuff. S. -
VERY, VERY, VERY, awesome!!! I love those kinds of stories!!! These are the kinds of stories I LOVED as a boy, and that my young children are just now starting to appreciate. Great job. S.

Off season hobbys???
stanley replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Everyone has their own thing, that's for sure. LOT'S of work & some travel during the week!!!!! Also, lots of little league games (coaching & spectating...), birthday party?s, school stuff, ballet class, fishing, turkey hunting, etc, etc... Mainly boils down to good ole' family time. I used to spend several weeks in Lakeside during each summer as a kid. Still love the White Mountains. Good memories there... S. -
Very cool Kaffer62!! Good story & good pics! Congrats on the lion. S.

hunting with your son/sons
stanley replied to dogman68's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Anyone who knows me, knows that I would HAVE to jump in on this thread. I can say with total honesty that this past year has been the best hunting year of my life, and I didn't kill a thing!!! Nothing compares to hunting with your children, and I'm looking forward to many years of hunting with my oldest (below) and his little brother & sister. S. PS: Ditto on what everyone said about hunting with their dad to! Mine doesn't get out much anymore, but it is still special to spend time with him when he has the energy.... Lots of good memories there. My son Erik, with his first deer last fall! His first javelina last month! HAPPY HUNTERS! Look at all of those smiles folks!!!! -

VERY sad situation Brian..... My little ones are just coming-up, and I'm looking forward to many years of exploring that area with them. Bummer that we actually have to be 'on guard' while out trying to enjoy the country. Are you going to be at the clean-up tomorrow?? S. PS: Dotshot, their in there. Just get high and glass, glass, glass.....

Marines not supported
stanley replied to sambucklong's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Good clarification Amanda! My initial reaction when I saw the first post was to seriously doubt it's validity. Seriously, what major US company would be so dumb as to print that they 'didn't support the war nor anyone in it'... Red flag for a hoax BIG TIME! S. -
Kudos on the pigs!!!! Were you in 'B' or 'C'? Regarding Hollister, yea he's a good guy alright. You all should head down for the ranch clean-up next weekend. We'll be sharing a camp & telling stories with Mike and some others around the campfire I'm sure... S.

I really hope that this survey will help get some more detailed information regarding what the majority of sportsman want. It's purpose is to try to get as much information regarding hunter's opinions as possible in front of the G&F for consideratin. TREESTANDMAN mentioned that it is 'painfully obvious that the majority of sportsman want the hunt structure to stay the way it is', but at the ADA board meeting last month Leonard Ordway basically said that for every hunter that feels the way we do, that there are several more that are just as happy to just have a tag in their pocket. Desertbull said that almost everyone who puts in for the early hunts gets drawn, when in fact only about 20% of the early hunts had draw odds better than 80% for 1st & 2nd choice applicants in 2004. To me, these two opinions point out that it is VERY important for all of us to take the survey. We must ensure that all of our voices are heard!!! Finally, rthrbhnting is correct; This survey is being driven by the ADA, and is simply a means by which we are trying to get more information into the departments hands. No matter what your opinion is, please take the survey and give your opinion! S.

On Saturday, 3/11, the Arizona Hunters Who care organization is once again coordinating the twice annual boarder trash pick-up day. For anyone who hasn't been, this is really a great thing. It's a great cause, and you'll meet some nice folks. Last spring the volunteers picked-up close to 50,000 pounds of trash! The base location will be at Three Points Veterans Park this year, as opposed to down south by the Arivaca road. Here is a cut & paste from a flyer that was put together with some details: Information: Volunteers will be able to pick up trash bags from an AZ Game and Fish employee in Three Points at the Three Points Veterans Park. The Park is located approximately 1 mile south of Robles Junction on the east side of Highway 286. Bags will be distributed from camp starting at 6:00am. Bags can also be picked up in Amado if volunteers coordinate with Hunters Who Care prior to the event. Volunteers are encouraged to go to areas that they are familiar with to pick up trash. If volunteers are not familiar with the area they can contact Gabriel Paz, Lance Altherr or Bob Boido before the event and they can either provide them with a map or send them to a location to meet with a landowner or volunteer that can direct them to an area to clean up. Dumpsters will be provided at the Three Points Veterans Park. All volunteers are encouraged to check in with the volunteer coordinators for raffle tickets, food, and refreshments. The raffle will be offered for volunteers of the event and tickets will be given for each bag of trash collected. Who is ?Hunters Who Care,? they are a group of hunters, guides, sportsmen, hunting clubs, and various other groups who are tired of seeing the desert littered with trash. They have come together to clean up our desert and to help landowners who are overwhelmed with immigration problems. For more information please contact: www.azhunterswhocare.org Lance Altherr (Hunters Who Care) azhunterswhocare@hotmail.com Bob Boido (Safari Club Intl Tucson Chapter) 622-1216 day/ 883-1984 or 490-8367 Officer Gabriel Paz (AGFD) 520-883-0487 or gpaz@azgfd.gov The Arizona Deer Association will be cooking lunch (burgers & dogs) for all of the volunteers. I'll personaly be working the grill, so be sure to introduce yourself if you get down there! Hope to see you there! S.
