Good for you Sout'm!!! I got one of the left-over tags as well, but didn't take a buck. Had a good time though... Thanks for sharing the story and pics. S.

Great buck, and awesome pictures!!! I love the hand-shake shot..... Good friends make the hunt! Kudos! Thanks for sharing. S.

BINGO Christian!!!!!!! Good for you! After leaving you guys on Friday night I went back to the area I had seen the bucks on Friday afternoon to sleep (nice visiting with you and your dad on Friday evening.....). Woke-up WAY before light and hiked in. Alas..... all I saw were does on Saturday AM and I had to pack-up to head back for my commitments here in the Valley on Saturday night. No deer for me this year, but Erik and I will be back at it in a couple of weeks for his junior hunt. I hope you had a good time Saturday night! Kudos on a great deer! S.

Doug provided some good info on the rainfall..... Weather is WARM Scott!!! Things haven't changed too drastically since the last time you were there though. Deer will still likely be in all the usuall spots (as far away from the roads as possible.... ). I'll be over in "A" this weekend poking around a bit. Heading-out late tonight after football practice! I'll then be there again for the junior hunt with my oldest. Good luck to you this year! S.

OUTSTANDING!!! Congrats to the young man! S.

Good clue Doug! Look within 1/2 mile of any highway that surrounds the unit.... Seriously though, Gabe (AZ G&F WM for 36A) should be sending out a letter to the youngsters anouncing this year's Youth Camp during the Jr. hunt. I'll be there with my boy for the hunt. We'll be looking for a muley as well (for some reason my boy likes the 'big' horns on those things....... ). Good luck! S.

October Get Together in 36's
stanley replied to azcouesandelk's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Hey Christian: Thanks for putting this together! I'll be down there on Thurs & Fri (36A), but I have a commitment here in the valley (Annual school auction/fundraiser for the kids school.....) for Saturday night. Regrets, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it... S. -
I somehow missed this post in the past week...... HUGE congrats to your son on his first kill! You're right about everyone needing to experience the thrill of watching their child (or someone else's....) kill their first big game animal. I've always loved hunting/fishing, but it really brings it to another level when you're able to get out there with the kids. Good stuff for sure.... Thanks for sharing the pics! S.

Quail Season!!!!
stanley replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Good show Doug! Congrats to you and Rica on getting into some good shooting. My experience was kind of like Jeepers....... We found coveys in all of our favorite honey-holes, but the coveys seemed a little small. Seemed like we were seeing 10-20 bird coveys as opposed to the 50-100 bird coveys that we sometimes get on opening weekend. Based on that, my report is that of an average - mediocre season in my normal haunts. No surprise for me though, based on the rain (or lack of it...). We'll still get out a bit this year though. My second boy is 10 now, and he's itching to work on his shot-gunning skills. Hopeful for good Mearns hunting over the winter though..... S. -
I know that when my son killed his NM elk a couple of weeks ago, that the work obviously started when the elk hit the ground (all fun up until that point.....)! Amanda, my buddy Terry, Erik, and myself went to work skinning & cutting right after that big boy was hung in a tree. FIVE hours later we had all of the meat either hanging in trees to cool or already on ice in one of the many icechests we brought (actually had to purchase additional icechest space at Walmart on the way home.... )! Lots of work, but we are obligated to put out this effort to ensure NO meat spoilage! Grilled-up some chops this weekend. Yummy! S.

Way to go Christian!!! Seems like you'll be retiring your rifles soon....... S.

Is it Camera Land or the shipper (UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc..)? Seems like if they shipped-it that they should be able to provide you with a tracking number that can be used to find the package? S.

Outstanding!!!!!! Thanks much for sharing! S.

Here is a link to my son's New Mexico Junior elk hunt this past week.... http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...?showtopic=7076 S.

My son was drawn for a New Mexico Junior elk tag this year. It was an ES (any elk) tag, and the hunt took place last weekend. Amanda (Star of CW.com!!! ) was nice enough to volunteer to join to help-out and maybe film the hunt (that ended-up not happening...). Myself, Erik, Amanda, and a buddy of mine (Terry) from work drove over on Friday. On opening day, with a few bugles and a little luck Erik was able to kill this elk. The whole story is very long, and I might try to post it soon, but the short version is that we had a LONG day of hunting! Three hours of blood trailing (first shot wasn't perfect....), three hours of getting the elk to camp, 6+ hours of skinning, de-boning, and cutting! Three VERY tired adults and one VERY proud hunter!!! I want to thank Kevin Gardner and Scott Adams for the helpful information that was a part of this success. Kevin particular went way above & beyond to help Erik out, and we've never even met him! Just a nice guy from this site who wanted to help a kid get his first elk. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. This is a beyond expectations "first elk" for my son. I couldn't be more proud, but if it were a dead cow instead of a bull I wouldn't be any less proud! Anyone who has hunted with their child knows the true meaning of a trophy. Here is Amanda, Erik, and myself with his bull..... Just Erik and dad...... I hope you all enjoy the pics. S.

I've got the 36A early hunt, and my son has the 36A Junior hunt. I'd be happy to share a couple of starting points with you. Basically though, if he's hunting coues then you really can't go wrong almost ANYWHERE in the unit. There are muleys down low, but coues everywhere. Lots of folks focus high. I prefer to focus more on getting away from people, as opposed to what elevation I'm hunting. Check-out any of the roads off 286 on the west side, or off of the Arivaca road on the SE. Lots of good country all over. Send me a PM as a reminder if you would like, but I'll try to remember to send you some scouting info prior to the hunt. Good luck! S.

Thanks for sharing the quick story Josh. Sounds like an incredible hunt! S.

So when do we get the full detailed story Josh??? S.

Good going Christian!!!! HUGE congrats on an awesome experience! S.

Holy heck that's a cute baby!!!!! You've now found the meaning of life...... Enjoy! S.

Don't worry too much about the illegals ICGreayghost! Odds are that you won't be bothered.... I hunt down that way most years of late, and I've not had any personal run-ins (not to say they don't happen..). Sounds like you're doing your homework. If you've already scouted and found some nice bucks, then you're WAY ahead of the average Joe out there. Maybe when Younghunter returns from his elk hunt he'll chime-in. Good luck! My boys and I will be in 'A' this year! S.
