if ya see a bear, don't call it in
stanley replied to .270's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
With all due respect to Lark, Amanda, Terry, and others...... Armchair quarter-backing is easy IMO. The guys had a decision to make, and they made it. I'm personally not going to second guess the decision because I wasn't there and do NOT know all of the facts. Terry, nit-picking on the wording of 'animal' because they didn't write 'domestic animal' is a bit weak at this point. You knew what they meant, right??? Again, only IMO... (which I absolutely know doesn't mean much.... ) But; 'should have never happended.... '?? Really??? How do you really know what should or should not have happend? You weren't there. S. -
Cool idea for a thread, and a couple of nice posts guys!!! Thanks for sharing! S.

Hey Cade: Thinking this must have been posted previously, since I think the episode might have aired already, but as I was getting ready for work this morning the TV was on the Outdoor Channel and they were showing a hunt from Argentina. I think it was an LL Bean show.... Anyway, the guy was using The Claw! I didn't see the begininning of the show so I don't know if it was mentioned, but there was no doubt he was shooting with The Claw. Made a shot on a stag at the end of the show where you could see the 'vapor trail'.... Kind of cool! I don't think the mentioned the yardage though. Was this posted in the past already??? Anyway, it just caught my attention.... S.

A few years ago, a buddy of mine made several 'walking sticks' out of Yucca stalks. He gave me one, and I was skeptical at first..... I've now had this "Yucca walking stick" for 15 years, and it's great! The end of it has kind of gotten mashed-down a bit over the years and is kind of soft, which actually acts just like a little rubber silencer on the end as you're walking. I really like it.... S.

Really nosajpo??? How are they going to 'cut them off from power....' ??? Explain to me, logically, how the commission is going to 'cut them off....' given their charter/authority? Do you understand the limited power the the ACC has?? Do you know something that the rest of us don't??? I read the letter. Among other things, he basically states that he would 'be happy to encourage AZ utilities to renegotiate their contracts so LA no longer receives AZ power...' The CA utilites have an OWNERSHIP stake in the AZ power generation! They are not "AZ utilities..." as he states! There is JOINT ownership! Therefore they are CA/AZ utilities!!! There is NO way that they will 'no longer receive AZ power...'! My point is that IMO he looks stupid for jumping into this pissing match. Blowing smoke to make it look like the government commission he represents has the authority to do something that they do NOT! Do they have the authority to influence rates, etc. YES! Do they have the authority to see that CA no longer gets power??? NO! CA: "Oh yea? Well, if you do that, then we'll do this!!!" AZ: "Oh yea? Well, if you guys do THAT, then we'll do this!!!" CA: "Oh yea? Well, our govenor can beat up your govenor!!!" AZ: "Oh yea? Well, at least our govenor is a natural born citizen!!!" CA: "Well you can't cut our power off anyway!" AZ: "Can to!" CA: "Can not!" AZ: "Can to!" CA: "Can not!" AZ: "Oh yea? Well at least we have COUES deer to hunt!!!" CA: "OH yea? Well we don't want to hunt those little deer anyway!" Etc., etc., etc....... Politics makes me sick. S.

Yea, it's a nice letter and all, but you KNOW he's just blowing smoke. The AZ Corporation Commission has no power (no pun intended....) over this decsion. California utilities have invested in AZ power plants (Palo Verde) and contractually, the power is going to keep going to California. Nice of him to jump into the media circus though. IMO, the guy looks stupid for sending a letter threatening to do something he has no power over...... S.

My experience (though limited... ) is that they do NOT respond as they do in Spring. BUT, they do respond!!! We've had a little success in the fall if/when we bust-up a group of birds, we will then set-up with a decoy quickly and do some calling. Sometimes it seems like the birds will kind of come around and try to 're-group' after we've busted them up.... Good luck!!! S.

I don't know what the 'trophy potential' for 6A is, but I'm VERY glad that I have an archery bull tag for this fall. This is my first archery bull tag (I've done a couple of archery cow hunts...). Randy and others, not to start an argument, but simply to demonstrate a different sentiment; No doubt, 17 elk hunts is a lot!!!! That being said, I am not a guide, outfitter, or 'trophy' hunter. I'm just a normal dude who has three kids and we ALL love to camp, fish, and hunt!! I love to hunt big ones & small ones!! I've never had the opportunity to hunt bull elk with a bow, and I'm grateful that I was drawn for this tag. I will take a week off of work, and I'll invite many friends & my kids to join me through-out the hunt. I am VERY confident that it will be an awesome hunt for me, whether I kill a rag horn or a 350+ bull, or nothing at all (which is probably more likely given my novice skills... )!!! I guess my point is that unfortunately for you and others who are VERY much interested in quality, the fact is that those that are looking for trophies are in the minority IMO. The majority of hunters are simply interested in being out with family and friends, and if they kill ANY legal animal, that is a great experience for them. Or if they just get to chase some legal animals around the forest, that's a great experience for them. I truly do appreciate your sentiment that comes from your perspective, but the challenge is that it's apparently not the sentiment of most of the average joe-hacks out there. S.

Well, it's no Guitar-zan, but it's pretty dang funny!!!! S.

Actually, it's not unbelievable (although I truly appreciate your sentiment....)! Anyone who knows Amanda is not one bit surprised by this small friendly jesture! Amanda is the best!!!!! S.

Yep, cool story!! I actually came across the last couple of minutes of that show also. I was bummed because I missed the 'impact shot'!!! lol I like Muzzy's Bad to the Bone show! Fred gets sooooo excited when he kills something. Definitely not contrived IMO.... He always seem genuinely excited! I saw one of his shows where he shot a fairly small muley off of a tank in NM, and he was over the top happy! S. PS: His wife is quite the accomplished bow hunter as well.... and not too tough to look at!

3 1/2 weeks in Zimbabwe.... I made it back!
stanley replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Hunting in Africa
Well... He shot all 4 of the big 4.... However there was a glitch on the Ele bull... and he was hit but not very well... we tracked him for 10 miles... and we left his tracks nearly a mile and 1/2 into Mozambique.... where he was lined out due east and we were not willing to get shot as poachers..... a Shame... he was a good bull. Glad to hear your friend got "The big 4". That is a great accomplishment. Sorry about the elephant. But sometimes it happens! 10 miles of tracking! Bet you guys were exhausted after that day was over. But I bet it was fun! +1!!!! I would LOVE to hear the details of that elephant story!!!! As a matter of fact, 3 1/2 weeks in Zimbabwe???? I would LOVE to hear the details of each and every hunt!!! VERY cool!!!! Thanks for sharing!! S. -

Thumbs-up for Cameraland from me! I purchased a rifle scope from Cameraland last summer and I was very happy with the service! Price was good and it shipped promptly! The even sent me a pound of free coffee with my order!! Not sure what that was about, but it was nice... S.

Too Bad! I really wanted "Los Scums" to be the true losers that they are! For a playoff game, there sure were a lot of empty seats. As far as Nash goes, he's a little ignorant of his home country's immigration laws. I have traveled all over the world for my job , and the only problem I ever had was getting into Canada. I was refused entry because they were afraid that I was doing a job that a Canadian could do (flight test of a helicopter autopilot system). Mark Definitely an irony in the statement that Nash is trying to make here... Regarding wishing they would have lost, the only problem is that they would be losing to the Spurs and I heard that the Spurs are planning on wearing 'Los Spurs' shirts for their home game/games,.... Both teams were planning on doing this! S.

Are you kidding???? PLEASE don't tell me anyone thinks this is real!!! Uh.... where did you get the pic Mark? That might help to determine it's legitimacy.... S. -
OMG!!!! I'm supposed to be getting my 'game face' on for a business meeting right now, but instead I almost fell out of my chair! Had to slam the office door on this one!! Awesome laugh at the start of a likely VERY crappy work day!! Toooooooo funny!! S.

Sick..... One thing interesting I noticed: In the article published on the AZ G&F site, it clearly and accurately refers to the perpatrators as 'poachers'. They are ONLY that IMO! This link to a brief AP article on the event calls them 'hunters'! NO WAY are they hunters!!!! They are poachers/criminals/killers IMO.... http://www.azcentral.com/community/pinal/a...eep-reward.html S.
