    Junior Kiabab Hunt

Thanks for all of the very nice comments all. She is my little sweet shining star (and my future heart-ache), that's for sure!! Hector, yes, I was soooo much looking forward to hunting with her! Also, yes I had to throw that pic in there. She would not leave the tent without 'primping'!! She is ALL girl, and I love it!!!! lol TEAM JESUS; yes, kudos for this hunt! I know that many folks don't approve of it because it means less deer North of the river, but I personally agree with you! This is a great opportunity for youngsters to go on a very high success rate hunt. If they are looking to recruit young hunters, then they definitely succeeded in this case. She is absolutely hooked for life!!!! S.

    Youth Deer starts tomorrow

Leaving after school today! Kiabab doe hunt for us! Taking my youngest child up for her first deer hunt! Can't wait!! S. PS: For those who care: She is a little tiny thing for her age, and the Remington reduced-recoil ammo ROCKS!! I would highly recommend it for the range if you have any little ones that are a little 'kick' shy..... She'll be shooting the .308 with confidence tomorrow!

    Kaibab Youth Hunt

I'll be up there with my daughter next weekend! I've done several youth hunts with my kids over the years, but lately the hunt has been in early Nov. This year is obviously a bit earlier..... That being said, we'll likely focus a bit lower then the 8000-9000 foot level. We'll likely start down more in the 'transition' type of habitat (Ponderosa, oak, etc...). I've got some friends heading-up with their kids for fall turkeys this weekend! I'll try to post a report of what they find in their travels..... Good luck up there! It's a great hunt for the kids! 6A Archery Report

Well, I'm back for a couple of days of office/school/kid duty after spending 6 days up chasing bulls! As has been reported by several already, it was a bit tough. When we arrived last Weds, the bulls were bugling plenty at night, and continuing into the light of the morning. After opening morning however, they virtually shut-up! No surprise with the army of hunters wandering/calling! That being said, we did our best and ended-up getting into some bulls. I was able to pass shots on 4 smaller bulls before finally GROSSLY mis-judging the yardage on a 6x6 and missing him clean on Sunday evening!!!! I sat trails and water at various times, having success both ways. Did some tree-raking (sp) and had a bit of success with that too. Also was able to spot & stalk to within 30 yards of a little feeding bull on Saturday AM. Had a spike and a raggy 4x3 standing at about 5 yards on Sunday evening, and they never knew I was there! GOOD FUN!!!! I'll be back up either Thurs or Fri (depending on kids schedule....) for more hunting. I have a couple of friends from this site coming to help a bit (Amanda and Hector), so hopefully that will change my luck a bit!!! Either way, I'm getting the most out of this hunt!!! Good luck all! S.
