50 gr. TNT, 55 Vmax or nos BT, or 60 gr. Nos BT. Find out what works for you but these are good starts. I've had luck with all those listed, my gun likes the 60 gr. Nos BT, but it's a 1:8 twist. Good luck

The magnus stinger is a great broadhead. They can be a little finicky at higher speeds (>285 fps) they might require a little more fletch and tuning but I doubt you can find a much deeper penetrating head. I would look to the 4 blade to keep overall blade surface/true cutting area up. They are still the only broadhead I know of that has a lifetime guarantee. If the lower cost lets you practice with your broadheads more and build confidence, then it is a great idea. I've never had a dead/dying creature use it's last breath to praise my broadhead selection. Dead is dead, no one design kills them deader.

the only requirements I have are: do they fly well? are they strong? are they scary sharp? are they straight? do they give me confidence? The above criteria disqualifies a lot. Beyond that, I could care less about cost or brand.

I've had good luck with all midland radios

I believe that it is the single biggest factor in the mule deer nose dive.

Norway fusion, aae max hunter, gateway razr feather, all good and easy to apply. I have utilized 4 fletch as well and love it. Right now I'm using the gateway razr feather in a 3 fletch with a hard helical and I am pleased with the results. They provide a ton of drag, yet low overall profile to resist wind drift and all three weigh less than most single vanes to help keep the f.o.c. up

26.5, but the conquest 4 doesnt have the power stroke (long brace height) to get us short armed folks to ASA speed like the prestige could. Looks like the way to go is the Hoyt pro edge elite now.

so what is the short draw target bow replacement?

Shooting Distance from Blind Mesh Window
elpepe25 replied to kidso's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
have had no problems real close or real far -
I like a bipod with a pack under the butt.

when I shot a 7 pin sight I took a silver sharpie and wrote 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 on the base of the pins as a quick reference to ease things in the heat of the moment. I've also seen people put colored shrink tubing on pins to help as well-such as on all odd yardages.
-
I like 5 pins on a moveable sight. I get 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 on the "home setting" then by adjusting and using the bottom pin I can go as far as I want with individual yard accuracy. This way I can "dial in" further shots but I don't get caught with my shorts down when the bull runs in to 30 yards.

Gonna disagree on the large pins long distance thing. Until recently FITA shooters shot 90m with a large dot on their lens or in the case or recurves a somewhat large pin in an aperture. A lot of field archery shooters still use a larger dot that is substantially larger than a .029 fiber optic pin and still find extreme accuracy @ 80 yards. Also I'd rather have .029 pins than a lense to get dusty and baby. As far as my experience with octane quivers is concerned- I had the magnetic 2 piece that was all the rage a couple of years ago. That thing was a flimsy piece of garbage and was too high profile. I had to run a substatial offset weight to balance the bow. I ended up replacing it with a Fuse 2 piece quiver that I am really happy with.

Dr. Ed Ashby, noted broadhead/penetration expert recommends that 2 blade broadheads be sharpened in a single bevel fashion that matches the helical. This tends to help create a spiral wound channel and a "J" cut upon exit as opposed to a straight slit. - I have been real impressed with the magnus stingers and Steel force 2 blades. I currently shoot the 165 grain Magnus No mercy off of my 40 and 50 lb recurves and love them as well.

Also, the Tight Spot quiver, I haven't used them myself but a lot folks love them on the Bowtechs

From 3-d/field/fita archery shoot the heaviest arrow you can at the speed you deem acceptable. Weighty arrows are always going to be more efficient (Higher KE, momentum, quieter, more piercing in the wind). I like 125 grain points to keep the foc up on a heavier shaft. Higher foc fights wind better, is more stable in flight and applies KE better for enhance penetration. For me 280 fps is plenty fast enough, so I shoot the heaviest arrow I can keep at 280 fps. You can dump all of the energy from these new super bows into a heavy wind bucking, stable, bone crushing, quiet shaft.

I have shot a lot of differing arrows in the past 20 years, For straightness and consistency you still cannot beat the acc or the X7. The victory VAP is a great arrow in the small diameter category and I would definitely favor them over the Easton Axis. The Easton Excel is one tough mother in the mid-size/mid weight category and an extreme value. As far as carbon express goes, I've had major problems with spine consistency even in their higher end arrows. I would take a little less straightness and slight weight differences over inconsistent spine. And their "dual spine/ weight forward technology" is proven Hokum. Gold tip is another solid choice, they have the new Kinetic arrows in the small diameter category that are doing well in Field and FITA venues. Great shafts can be had for $60-$300 a dozen, just depends on what you value most-tight tolerances or cash in your wallet. Most folks cant see a true benefit from the ridiculously tight tolerances anyway. Just make sure you don't drink the Kool-Aid and marketing ploys, get an arrow with a finished FOC in the 12-15% range, plenty of spine (cannot over spine an arrow), and a middle ground on total weight (greater than 6 grains per pound of draw weight). An arrow with the above specs and plenty of fletch with helical will be easy to tune regardless of broadhead selection.
