roger that- money kills big critters, not hard work, dedication to the craft, just money. comparing what is listed above to the tool iranian price is apples and oranges (quite the flattering description by the way). I doubt any hunter involved in this conversation would smash a set of 109 antlers on a rock because they were not "book" I say shoot whatever blows your skirt up, whether it be meat, antlers, or nothing at all. If another hunters success measure differs from your own no need to feel sorry for them, just say "great buck" and move on. Judgment and pity is undeserved for those measuring success differently than thou.

Ducks in the desert

awesome deal, do you see a lot of pinnies? they were a rarity when i used to duck hunt -
In agreement w/ Becker, If you’re going to attach a number to a critter, please attach the whole number. If you take the time to write how awesome an individual critter is (gross score + or -) why not cap it off? But each author-poster has the prerogative to post as they wish. I half learned to judge bucks due to this site. We get the opportunity to look at the pictures and see a number next to them. I don’t feel that attaching a value system to a critter degrades anything. One battle in conservation is the lack of a value system. Until something gives the item in question a value, it will be worthless or exploited. When hunters assign a value to a critter based on experience, size, age class or gross score; the creature is still being valued. When wanting to harvest a “mature representation” of a species… something is still being measured, like it or not.

You are correct, you never stated that there needed to be a removal of wolves; however you did state that they don’t ecologically fit in any more. We (humans) are a much more successful predator than wolves or lions. We do a decent job of keeping prey species in check. So with the same reasoning Lions no longer ecologically fit; we dont need them. They are counter productive to our goals. I retire. Best wishes.

Just keep at it. Try to get where you think other callers may not have been. Heres a good site as well. http://www.coyotegods.com/index2.html -
really? so what is wolf poop made of? Predators are undesirable (common opinion) in any species whether be kitty, wolf or whatever. What it boils down to is that "us", the dominant predator dont like competition. We want to hunt the elk, deer, harvest the livestock etc. Therefore predators=bad. To quote aRT again: "All of this attention that is being paid to endangered species is a whole lot disturbing to me. The fact that it is taking priority over human beings is very disturbing." Hipocracy... of course, Just trying to point out a pot calling the kettle black save one predator for "future generations" but remove another?

aRT, to quote you about another rampant predator "Wolves fit this same category. They are going to wander outside of any boundary...they are going to prey on domestic animals...they only belong in controlled environments." So where to go from here? If wolves don’t fit in because they are an uncontrollable predator that we have replaced, how do lions fit? American sportsmen vote w/ their dollar. The majority continually vote for Deer, Elk, Sheep, and Antelope. They assign more value to them. Therefore Lions must receive a lower value due to their predation on desirable species....... much like wolves. The mission statement of most conservation entities usually mirrors "the most good, for the most people, for the most time." Your opinion (to which you are entitled) puts you in the minority. You are no longer fitting into the "for the most people" category. But you can continue to express your "vote" with your almighty dollar and assign these predators the value in which you deem appropriate.

Strings good on Hoyt Carbon Element RKT?
elpepe25 replied to Kelco's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Another problem I often encounter: Factory strings are often only 14-16 strands, they do this to boost performance (speed), however this does nothing for longevity or consistancy. Whereas a quality after market strings can be ordered in whatever configuration you want. I tend to like 22 for hunting and 28 strands on target bows. you can even specify color, and material type. 452X is super low/no stretch, 8125 may move some at first but settles after 200-300 shots and stays consistant and is slightly higher performing material speed wise. Another point to talk over with your custom string maker along with strand count is serving size to ensure proper nock fit. -

Strings good on Hoyt Carbon Element RKT?
elpepe25 replied to Kelco's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I had problems w/ the factory FUSE strings, They streched, they were the fuzziest strings ive ever shot, and i hated the floating yoke. this was after 1000 arrows or so. I replaced them w/ Winners choice and as usual... no problems. -

If I could hunt the Fort I would. That place tends to be a sanctuary for both species of deer. They recieve little pressure, the rifle tags are rarely sold out. Its like mexico but on our side of the line. If I had a rifle tag up there it would be 100" + or bust. I just cant hunt it.

Wow, picking on a guy with a shotgun sight setup. Some folks just get bored I guess. Keep in mind the below comments are just opinions. Shooting tight patterns from a tight choke tube can be fine with just a bead sight, however if more precision is desired a front and rear sight setup may be beneficial. This is due to a FIXED rear aperture being more fool-proof than an inconsistent eye placement (like it or not cheek weld, eye placement even at the top level is not as consistent as an object fixed to the gun.) For examples of precision shotguns NOT FOR wing shooting look at the vast array of police shotguns, turkey shotguns, and slug guns. Will wing shooting guns do the job….. Yes, but a dedicated tool for a purpose may provide better results. Another reason that adjustable sights can be a benefit: What if your pattern center is not at point of aim? With sights you can shift point of aim to coincide with the center of the pattern. Shotguns tend to be fickle and different with where the pattern contacts the target but the bead placement is rarely adjusted to correct this problem (even on wing shooting guns, go on, go pattern your gun.. ..itll be an eye opener as to where it impacts as opposed to where your aiming). The big producers of these guns dont take the time to test the P.O.I., instead they weld or tap the bead where its supposed to be. Would you purchase a precision rifle that you could not adjust the scope on??

Digiscope w/ point & shoot
elpepe25 replied to c-ne-elk's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
adapt.bmpI use one of these to mount my video camera and point and shoots to a nikon field scope. I do still get some vignetting but I think I paid $20 for the mount. The best way to do it seems to be something like the Minox DCM that replaces the eye piece on the spotter. I think they make them for just about every big name scope.
