AZGFD Hunt Recommendations
coues7 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
We have turned this discussion into a 7 page discussion. We need to continue this effort on April 21st by attending the meeting in force.....maybe even this year than in the past.....and truthfully I feel that we can and will make a difference. Another thing someone should do is to record the meeting on video or tape. That way a discussion doesn't get overlooked.....its sounds like one did from the meeting notes Amanda has posted. It actually sounds like we are somewhat unifying ourselves......and it helps when we actually have someone from the AZGFD (Jim) helping us dispell rumors and false info....this way we arean't just pissin' and moanin' for nothing. -
AZGFD Hunt Recommendations

AZGFD Game Spec (Jim), Thank you for stepping up to the plate on this matter and getting answers......I think all of us are now beginning to see some of the issues that WE.....YES WE as hunters have created for ourselves......some of us (some archery elk hunters) spoke and the AZGFD listened. This may not have been what we expected but we asked and the AZGFD gave. It appears that we are getting for exactly what we asked for. All of us, Like Jim has stated we need to be careful what we ask for because we may not realized the repercussions at the time we ask. We may ask for one thing....get it and it may end up affecting 10 other things.....either positive or negative. This is a great example for us all. Someone here or from the ADA should start a poll here on the site in regards to the way we would like to see things and let everyone (us hardcore gus on CW.com, MM.com, AZchat.com etc) vote.....and discuss. That way we could UNIFY and actually view the pros and cons to each ACTION we would like to see taken. That way when those of us attending the April 21st meeting can go and voice our opinions.....because apparently the AZGFD IS LISTENING. -

AZGFD Hunt Recommendations

Jim, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STEPPING UP TOTHE PLATE! I've spoken with your self and a number of others within the AZGFD over the years and am VERY impressed with "our" biologists! I HOPE TO SEE YOURSELF AND MANY OTHER FELLOW CW'S AT THE MEETING ON APRIL 21ST!!! AGAIN THANK YOU. -
Primetime.....there is already a thread going on this topic.....as a matter of fact there are two threads going Thread 1:2007 AZGFD Hunt Recommendation Thread 2: Hunt Recommendations Meeting (Flagstaff) we should try to keep them all together so everyone can voice there civil opionions on this and keep them in one location......that way when the AZGFD looks they won't have to go to so many places Coues7

Geoff and others.....look at this post: AZGFD Hunt Recommendations Thread I don't necessarily believe the AZGFD is trying to hide anything from us. I do believe there is a lack of accountability within the agency. Based on my conversation with a biologist in the Tucson office......the individuals did tell "someone" within the AZGFD that handles public relations to relay the meetings that are being held this evening to the public and a number of TV, Radio and forum administrators. As we can see that did not happen. The meetings tonight are strickly to see the process........THEY WILL NOT, WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING PUBLIC INPUT UNTIL THE APRIL 21ST MEETING.

AZGFD Hunt Recommendations
coues7 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Fellow CW's: I just got off the phone with the AZGFD here in Tucson. Coueskiller started another thread here: Flagstaff Public Comment meeting These meetings ARE NOT I repeat ARE NOT public input meetings. They are simply the AZGFD gathering to inform one another as to what recommendations they will press forward with and recommend on April 21st. On April 21st it would be wise to go to the meeting in PHX and voice your opinion.....this is when public opinion will be accepted. As a side not the AZGFD has recognized the importance of monitoring and dispensing information through this forum and others. It appears that the ball has been dropped in this matter. A specific person within the AZGFD has been assigned to monitor these sites......his name is Rory Aikens. Amanda is aware that he should be dropping in here to keep us updated and to dispell false information. Call me brain washed and stupid but I spoke with a biologist at the Tucson AZGFD Office about what is going on.....and I must say I at least have respect for the wildlife biologists and managers......they seem to have a genuine concern for the wildlife and their future......not just $$$. It just appears that THE MAJORITY of hunters in AZ would rather hunt than hunt trophies like us. And the biologist and game managers believe the game can handle the increased pressure. -
WE ALL NEED TO GET ON THE PHONE ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS NONSENSE. I believe that public law requires the public to be notified of meetings! They have NOT done this

Yes, I also use an anti cant device (a level attached to your bases) I have the ACI (angle cosine indicator) made by Sniper Tools Triad Tactial.....it's awesome and built like a rock) There is also the ACI/ACD made by Horus Horus ACI....the verdict is still out on this one......not to many people have one to see how durable they are. Do you absolutely need one? NO Can they be VERY helpful? YES I have a friend that missed a shot at a lion because he was shooting down hill and didn't realized that angle has such an effect.....you need to know trigonometry if your going to shoot long range!
-
Did any other else here on the boards draw this same tag?
-
Mike, If you are getting into long range hunting to shoot accurately then FORGET THE NOTION OF HOLD OVER. If you have a desire to ETHICALLY AND HUMANELY kill big game animals at long ranges you need to get a quality scope WITH TURRETS OR a quality scope with A BALLISTICS RECTICLE. I somewhat agree with TAM that a 30-06 will do......I would recommend a larger caliber for shots over 450 yards. You need a round that has the capacity to project a high BC (ballistic coefficient) bullet at higher velocities if you are going to ETHICALLY AND HUMANELY kill a larger animal at those yardages. A 300 Win Mag will do that for you. Just because one has a nice rifle......he also need to be able to shoot it CONSISTENLY AT THOSE YARDAGES!!!!!!!!!!

I had the hunt two years ago as well as in 99'. My neice had the hunt last year. It can be a real good hunt with a lot of opportunity to take a good bull. The last two years seemed to be a little difficult in locating bulls, but then again, I didn't scout like I should have. At that time of the year, most bulls are bachelored up. I'd start hitting the scouting hard after the rut and the fall hunts. I plan on scouting as soon as the first couple of hunts in the unit are over. I suppose there is no use locating a monster to have someone kill it during the earlier hunts. This is only my second tage......EVER. The last one I had was in 1994. If anyone has any recommendations. PM me......and no I'm not e-scouting. I'll spend every weekend up there from mid Oct until my hunt......the dreaded drive from Tucson to Springerville.....4 hours Gas Price going up At least I get to hunt
-
If you hold over and hit anything buck at 500+ yards it was pure luck. BAD idea when it comes to ethics. Get some turrets! The website that TAM recommended is a good one for getting your ballistics. Depending on who manufactures the bullet your shooting you should be able to go to their website and get the BC (ballistic coefficient) and then go to the website TAM recommended and get your drop chart and energy at the respective yardages.

Can you carry a pistol while archery hunting in Az.??
coues7 replied to elpepe25's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Welcome to the boards......look in the upper right hand corner of your screen.....it says "SEARCH"......this button is your friend. To answer your question.....yes you can. Is is border line legal/illegal......yes. Is the game warden gonna nail you on it.....depends on his mood.....most likely not, especially in southern AZ where there are lots of drugs, illegals and crazy activities Happy Hunt'n! -
I'd contact the GW's for the unit and hope like heck they are honest with you.

C/W member says his card got hit
coues7 replied to Huntn coues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'd say that if your credit card got hit today you didn't see pending charges (when they were actually there days ago) OR you didn't ask the right questions when you called the CC company to find out if you had charges from the AZGFD. I'd say we'll find out tomorrow. -

Great pics Bruce! Do you have any of your cams our right now?

I'm in the process of having one built as we speak. I decided to go with Randy at R&D Precision. The total cost, with me supplying the action is about $1450. Kirby Allen builds great rifles as well as Doug (Redrabbit) can attest to. You also have Shawn Carlock at Defensive Edge, Chris Matthews of Long Shot rifles and George at GA Precision. Stocks are a tough issue. Get one that you can pillar and bed (glass or steel). I decided to go with a McMillan M40a1 (HTG-general purpos hunting stock). The $450 for this stock is included in the $1450 quoted above. There are a couple of website I'd recommend you hang around before you decide: snipershide.com longrangehunting.com precisionlongrangehunting.com Best of luck Scott

If money is not necessarily a concern.....go with night force or US Optics HANDS DOWN!!! NO MORE DISCUSSION. I personally have the Leupold Mark IV LR/T M1 (4.5-14x50) scope.....it is awesome and has been a great scope. I would recommend it to anyone.....and it's below $900 Scott

Great buck! Congrats to the shooter.....can we get the story? Public Land? AZ or Mexico?
