Great Post guys. I have the Nov28th hunt in 36b. I will have my cell phone,GPS, and 45 on me at all times. A friend of mine has voluteered to sit where ever we camp with a shotgun as well. i have never hunted down south before any other tips? you guys setup some sort of perimeter around camp? new quote by me - "My Safety First!!!" I too showed my wife the pics on this post. She is telling me I need to try harder to get one during Archery Season...

I have a Winchester pre-64 30-30. I used to hit coke cans at 80yds with the iron sights. Still could but it doesnt get out of the gun cabinet much. It has also killed a javelina within the same distance. To me the 30-30 is the one gun that to me has that "old west" "cowboy" feel and I just cant picture it with a scope on. Well I can but it looses its "Westerness?" (does that make sense?) My suggestion is practice with it and get proficient and confident with the open sites. just my thoughts. good luck on whatever you decide. -Wade

Wanted to see if anyone had any Maps for this unit before I puchase my own. PM me with what you have and what you would like for them. For those of you that have hunted this unit if you have suggestions on what maps I would need that would be beneficial too. I really would hate to spend the money on something I didnt need. Hunt is Nov 28th WT. I have never been that far south so I plan on heading down in the next couple weekends to get a lay of the land and start scouting. Ill give it a few days before I buy anything. had unit 31 as my first choice but ended up getting a tag for 36b (Nov.28). It will be the first time in that area. anyone got any maps they want to get rid of?

Does anyone have any experienced opinions about this unit? Good, Bad or otherwise? I did not get drawn this year and see there are a few leftovers for this unit. wondering if it is worth my time and $$$$ or if I should just focus on getting an arrow through one this year???

Not sure on the Bear. I count 8 Turks 6.5 young and 1.5 grown. But there are at least parts of 9 different turkey. I must be missing the 10th.. Thanks for the Pics...

I have only experienced this once on a hunt, but I would have to agree with bowsniper. We had scouted and area that we knew held bucks and on the second day of our hunt the cattle had moved in. 2 more days in the area and all we saw were Does and a couple spikes. After a few more non-productive days elsewhere, we ended up hitting the same area the last day of our hunt (2 days after the cattle had moved out) I did finally glass up a decent buck from about 1000yds away on the same hills the cattle had been, but never could get close enough for a shot. If I see Cows when I am hunting Coues. Im outa there...

Alright. I have seen enough. Im getting a cam. I have never used one before but you have all made me see the light. I will search the site for more information. But for a beginner what would you all recommend that may or may not be new on the market. PS I dont want to spend a ton of money on a camera. I have also seen enough that no matter what i do that there is a risk I may one day have it stolen or destroyed. Thanks, Wade

I hunted coues for the first time Nov '06 in Unit 32. I can see why you all love it soooo much. It was a learning trip for sure. We did not fill a tag but my brother and a friend did find something to remeber the trip by.

Next time we just need to find some with heartbeats Of course those would go in a different forum topic.

This is Great Advice as it has already warmed up....I was at Roosevelt Crappie fishing on the 17th and saw these two..not sure if this was courting ritual or if they were grappling...
