Last year my brother came out from Michigan and shot a beautiful large non-typical Coues... Obviously he wanted to apply again this year and he wanted to bring a friend out for the October hunt... Well... they were both drawn and the game was on... I must say I had my work cut out for me, they only had three days to hunt..I've been fortunate, did my research for the past few years and found a nice little spot that has produced some nice animals... The first day was completely miserable, cold, hard wind and fog... no deer... day one gone! Day two... Lots better...glassed up a nice wide chocolate antelered deer too far for my spotting scope to capture his full potential... Told the guys I have a nice shooter deer.. but he's a long ways away, how funny my brother instantly said he wants his friend Jeff to go, Might I remind you, my brother and his friend Jeff are from Michigan (absolutely no hiking involved in their hunting). Next thing, I hear is my brother telling Jeff "you better lighten your load and quick"...lol! All the while my brother has a grin on his face cause he knows how much he hiked the year before...We roll up and down several cuts, 1 1/2 miles later and were on him and he's a diffinate shooter.. boom.. 234 yard shot... .. Cape and quarter and head back.....Jeff is completely exhausted, takes a motrin 500 and a nap.. Welcome to Arizona! No deer that evening and planned on leaving at 10am the the following morning. Wake up, arrive to the same spot and I was fortuante enough to glass up four bucks and another nice dark chocolate.. Tell my brtoher and off we went straight up a moutain... We were both sucking wind and closed the distance to 434 yards. A little out of breath, the first shot was high and the deer scattered... We got lucky and found the deer again... 200 yard shot.. dead deer! What a rush!!! Memories for a lifetime! By the way I went out to Michigan to hunt with my brother two weeks later... freezing cold, no shooter deer and caught a nasty cold.. I did have a Mr. buddy heater in my blind though! Came home and went Elk hunting. Thanks to family for helping me pack him out! I hope you enjoy the pictures!

I've been seeing lots of bears in my whitetail cams, and decided to head up to my whitetail spot. Showed up yesterday evening around 5pm and beat feet to my spot... 20 mintues later found a black bear 540 yards up the canyon... Raced down to 216 yards and fired one shot.... Where did I hit??? I was able to glass it up again further up the hill and unfortuantely I've been coyote hunting with my ar-15 and my first crosshair on that scope is 100 yards.. My rifle is 200 yards.... I put the second cross hair on my rifle on the bear thinking it was 200 yards...when it was 300 yards..... Total operator error blew one right over it! Hung my head low and went back to camp.. Got up first thing and headed back up to the same spot......6:20... spotted two black bears and 416 yards later...Had my first black bear!!! Nice boar. What a total rush!!!!

Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments! I was figuring he was about 3-4 years old and just got back from game and fish and they aged him at approximately 7 years old... Pretty cool!

I agree with TJ, dont let the negative response get to ya... Taking a bear with your bow is a pretty big feat in itself! congrats!!

Glad I could help out! Thanks, Paul

Finally finshed my Predator R-15 project and can't wait to get out and use it! I must say I'm extremely excited considering it's cost me too much money, and way too much time waiting for parts to come in the mail! Posting some pictures in appreciation of everyones help and this site! ! Thanks to Schmitty, Tontotom, Reaper and a special thanks to Christian aka.azcouesandelk for all your help at Basspro and the info on the mini-risers! It's was greatly appreciated!!! I still haven't shot it yet but, fortunately I have enough money left over for bullets!!

Hey Pickup, great looking set up! I'm really enjoying mine as well. Sighted it in at Usery, using the Hornady 55 grain V-max and shot great groups at 100-200 and was tapping the 300 plate with no problem. Coyote Special Scope took me a little getting used to once I realized I wasn't going to get terrific groups but, deffinately impressed with it! Can you tell me where you bought the extension butt plate for yours? I'm thinking I may be interested in placing one on mine as well. I like the ergo grip... I've been looking at the handall for mine. Thanks,

Recently purchased a Remington R-15 and matching Nikon 4.5-14x40 Coyote Special scope along with Nikon high scope rings. Great set up but unfortuantely the rings are too low for me! Would really appreciate any help in finding some rings in the super high or ultra high that I could use. I've looked at the Warnes and thats probably the route I'm going with but would like to get something in the matching Max1 camo. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Oh yea....if possible I'd like to keep the $$ to a minimum cause my bank is broke and I still need to buy bullets! Thanks for any help!

Remington R-15 Scope rings help
otdrsman replied to otdrsman's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Reaper, Great info and definately appreciated! According to shipping, I should be getting my mini risers in the mail on the 9th. I'll have to see how it all goes together and if I'm able to get a clear picture.... I already know it's going to be close cause with the original setup I was already pushing the scope to the back to get a clear picture so I may be in your same boat. I'm going to look up that one piece you mentioned just in case so thanks very much for the heads up. As for the bullets, I'm with ya on the v-max. I'll be in touch and thanks again for all the info! -
Remington R-15 Scope rings help
otdrsman replied to otdrsman's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Gunsmith, overall I'm very impressed with the R-15 even though I haven't shot it yet. It's deffinately going to take some getting used to considering I've never shot an AR style gun before. Two big sellers I liked was that it shouldered quick and felt comfortable considering how short it is. That aside, this project has cost way too much money trying to get everything to match in color that I don't think I'll have money to buy bullets! A big thanks to everyone for their info and help. Really appreciated! I'll post pics once I get everything put together and put a few rounds through it! Tontotom, Thanks for the info on the rings, I'll have to take a look at them if my set up doesn't pan out.
