Memories for a lifetime! Job well done!

Where do I start?? I've been scouting for months and found some really nice bucks, both in the field and on my trail cams... I found one in velvet on my trail cam in August that was especially nice, actually a giant to me. Well I invited my brother out to hunt from Michigan and he was drawn so the pressure was on to find him a nice first Coues shooter. I actually told him if we found the big boy he could have him! Two days before the opener, I found the big boy and bumped him on accident. I came over a ridge to where I glass and he was bedded 50 yards below me. He bumped up and over the ridge and dissapeared out of my life. In the meantime I sat and glassed and found a nice three in the same valley and figured if I saw him on opening day I'd probably take him.. Opening day.....No shooters, so the second day I went back to the canyon in hopes of finding the big boy and ran into the 3x3 again. I couldn't let him pass, and took him at 200 yards... I love him and he's a rough green score of 84. Sunday night drove back to town, dropped off my cape and meat and off to pick up my brother from the airport. Back at camp 1:45 am and up 4am. Sat on my ridge in hopes of finding the big boy and ended up seeing a small buck that my brother couldn't get the scope on fast enough!! Brother was pretty dissapointed to say the least, but we decided to head back to camp and catch an hour or so of sleep. Showed back up to the ridge and five minutes later I found the big guy up on a high ridge approximately 540 yards away... We watched him and a small 2x3 for about 45 minutes or so and decided to take the shot. Just so you know.....I tried to tell him the 2x3 was a great first shooter!!!! A few shots later and the big boy was DOWN!! I watched it all through my spotting scope and even seen the vapor trail on three shots.... Absolutely incredible to see and to share with my brother. Memories we'll have and share for a lifetime!! Thanks for coming out Bro!!!!A rough green score of my brothers is 110-116. I hope you enjoy!!

Thought I would post a few pics. I've been checking my cams once a week and both cameras are pulling about 700-1200 pics a week each. This year I finally upgraded from the Wildview 4 mega pixel to the 5 mega pixel (can hold a 2gig card) and so far very impressed with the quality of pics. Going up tomorrow to check em again! Hopefully I'll start seeing some more new growth? Take a look at the goofy Elk laying down, the unicorn and the late dropper! Take care and hope you enjoy! Paul[a ttachment=15618:SUNP0138.JPG]

Had a great solo hunt! Turned out to be more difficult than prefered but it all worked out! I showed up two days before opener for some touch up scouting and wasn't seeing the quality bucks that were showing up on my cams?? All my pre-season scouting was very positive.... I'm not sure what happened.. I searched high and low and picked apart every bush and tree from sunrise till sunset. I hiked miles!!! Only glassed six bucks...two shooters????? I struggled ..... does were growing antlers, I have an elk tag and could use the extra days for scouting, need to pay the bills!! Opening morning he walked twenty yards in front on me! My gun was twenty yards behind me, my mistake......I crept back to my gun and he busted up the next ridge.. His mistake, he stopped at 307 yards! I'm so fortunate, three coues in three years!

I would suggest buying Duwane Adam's book "How to hunt Coues Deer". It's a terrific read and very informative. You can buy it on this web site! It covers everything from A-Z and breaks down the Coues units. Good luck.

Mineral attractant?
otdrsman replied to coueschaser3's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Coueshunter I apologize but, I've never tried the bricks so I can't offer you any advice on them. Just so were on the same page, I'm using I believe their called mineral rocks, they come in a half plastic wrap. You can find them up stairs at Bass Pro or near the archery Dept. at Cabelas. I dont add anything to them and they weigh about 15-20 lbs. This is my second setup with the rocks and I'm deffinately happy with them....as long you find a decent area. My first setup had good action but, was only four months long due to some yahoo taking my cam! As for the smell, I'm not to sure about that but, let me know if you hear anything. Hope that helps in some way and good luck. Keep me posted, Paul -
Mineral attractant?
otdrsman replied to coueschaser3's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I use the salt/mineral rocks they have at Bass pro or cabelas for around 16 dollars. Not sure if it will help you, but for mine, they've been hitting it well. I just checked my cams this past week and had 260 pics in a week and the rocks look like volcanos glassed over! They've been digging at the ground all around them. All the rain helps leach it into the ground also. Good luck with whatever you choose. -
Coues Deer Celebration 5!!!
otdrsman replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Outstanding video Amanda!! Glad I was able to have my picture on it also!! You have to be proud of what you've created! Believe it or not I was drawn for the same unit again! I'm stoked!! Out of curiosity, in the video I seen a real small circle ( i think) decal of coues whitetail.com and was wondering how I could get one? If you have any ideas please let me know.... I'd like to buy or get a few of them. Thanks so much and once again outstanding job on the video!!! A++++ -
Thought I would post a few pics from some of my cams. Sorry but some of the dates are incorrect and some are correct. I guess thats what you get when you buy a Wildview. But It does take pics and thats all I ask of it!! I check them every 2-3 weeks to change the batteries and last month someone stole one of my cams! As always it was my best cam!! Boy did that leave a mark! Tryn to post more, but can't get it to work so this is it. Enjoy. [attachmen t =7753:SUNP0006.JPG] [ attachment=7755:SUNP0008.JPG]

Predator Hunting Videos???
otdrsman replied to Coues Sniper's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Hey Cgmartin, can you send me the link to the videos as well. Thanks. Paul -
I'm not new to predator hunting but new to predator calling and would really appreciate any help. Have to do something in the off season and what better place to ask for help! I just bought the Prey Master and it came with three sound cartridges which is where I could use some help. Please bear with me here. It came with, baby cottontail, distressed rodent, kid goat distress( what is that) goyote grey fox, desperate conttontail, fawn bleating, pleading chicken(whats that),coywolf barks/ howls, juvenile cottontail, flicker, gobbler distress and house cat distressed. Holy cow! What sounds are for what? I pretty much know the rabbits are for coyotes but what about the other sounds? I've never even heard of some of some them! I'd love to get a bobcat, fox or even a mountain lion to come in. Also the e-caller plays two sounds at once, is there an advantage to playing multiple sounds at once? Also as far the volume, full blast? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks, Paul
