I had a 300 winmag and it kicked so hard I sold it. Get something different.

I'll be heading into 6A tonight, sleeping in the truck and hunt the morning and head home. They were gobbling last Saturday so hopefully they still will be.
-
Thats pretty crazy. In twenty years running around in the wilderness Ive only seen one bear, at 1000 yards give or take.
-
What part of 6A are you in?
-
Where I am in 6A there is lots of gobbling but I heard in 5B there wasnt any. Ive seen turkey almost every morning.

This is why you keep your mouth shut. Usually its the government coming after their "fair" share.

Ive heard of people doing this and they do a 50/50 split of anything found.

If you found the birds in a certain spot a few weeks back they should be in the same general area. I hunted 5b one time and not one gobble the weekend I was there. Sometimes they just dont talk. Hard to say. For my daughters youth hunt in 6A this year there was tons of gobbling, but they were henned up.

Thats a good size area. I wasnt too far from Maxwell park. Going back Friday.

6AYoteHunter: Where about in 6A were you? For the youth hunt I was in the southeast-ish portion of 6A and we had more action than we have ever had. Birds gobbling at sunset, gobbling at 5:30 in the afternoon, gobbling in the morning. Things seemed good where I was.

I took my daughter out for the youth hunt in 6A. We had lots of gobbling but they seem to be henned up. On two different days I did manage to call in a tom but they never quite came into range. The most interesting thing that happened was I got into a yelping fight with 2 hens. The 3 of us yelped non stop for 10 solid minutes. Apparently these hens dont know about overcalling! We never encountered another soul but we were pretty deep in the woods, and part of that time was Wednesday and Thursday. I'll be back out there for the second general hunt.

So the governor has issued a stay at home order until April 30. It is my understanding that Outdoor recreation that provides for social distancing is still allowed. I still plan on taking my daughter out to 6A for the spring turkey hunt. Just hope the roads are open. We'll be socially distant for sure. Anybody else going?

Tell your grandson to shake it off. I can count the number of mistakes Ive made hunting deer and turkey on 50 hands! Learn and move on.

Thats awesome ruthunter. We were in 6A as well. Saturday we called one in but he stayed just outside of shotgun range. Yesterday they were going nuts on the roost, went silent on the ground. Then after 20 minutes started gobbling but not responding to us. They shut up around 7:30. We'll be back out there Wed. and Thurs. morning.

I'll be in 6A off Lake Mary Rd with my daughter. We tried to go up today and look around and put out a couple cameras. But it was snowing so hard we had to turn around. There were people slid off everywhere. Even had to be pulled backwards with a toe rope just to get to a spot I could turn around. Fun times.

I spoke with the Forest Service on Monday and they told me the roads off Lake Mary Road will open on Friday. I'll be up there too with my daughter hunting turkey.
