GameHauler replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Good idea Gino but this is a hunting web site and I am sure it will not reflect the results of Arizonans in general. BML, you are absolutely right about how easy it is to save for hunting if you just put a small amount of effort towards it. I have posted on here before that I save all my change and buy everything I can with cash, and if something cost $1.01 they get $2.00 Heck, I refuse to have a credit card but use my debit for online stuff. I have a second checking account just for hunting related thing. When I get my refund checks back from GF they go right into that account so my tags are pretty much paid for the next year When I lived in the Valley I would come up here every year for Elk hunts and would cash in my change for those expenses. I would always have between $300.00 and $400.00 to pay for my trip. Now that I live up here I have not needed to take time off work and be camped out for 2 weeks so I have not tapped into it since 2003 when I drew my Bighorn Sheep tag. Do the math, at $300.00 a year thats $1500.00 waiting for an upcoming HUNT OF A LIFE TIME. Not enough to do the Dall Sheep hunt I want but its a start -

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
GameHauler replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
In this day of computers there is no reason for a store to be out of an item for more than a few days if the are a chain store or a private store with some volume. Inventory is in the computer and shows when to reorder. All the controller has to do is check what the box is telling him and CLICK YES. (or no) I hand write all my invoices and get caught when I have more than one customer in the store and they take the last one without me knowing it. I have the software to do it but just takes a TON of time to get it set up. I feel for the employees who have to listen to everyone's gripe because they can't do Jack about it. -
This is outstanding Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded bycivilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were. A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on theback. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrotethe local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall. When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must Have stung quite a bit. The complaint: 'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a lowpass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road atapproximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early bird special? Any response would be appreciated. The response: Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets' On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four- ship fly by of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day. At 9 a. m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. FresquesasI gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of theUnited States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.. A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense offreedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects. The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning airshow? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives. Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you....JesusChrist and the American Soldier. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel, Jr. USAF

Boy's first big game rifle, suggestions?
GameHauler replied to lfootmatt's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
500 grains, that should just about be enough to take down one of those highly dangerous tough hided hadr to kill Coues Whitetails I actually love 45/70. My buddy Brian has a trap door and a rolling block that are a blast to shoot! I'm going to pour some gas on the fire now. My same buddy, now living in Guam, just informed me that a friend of his offered him an unfired NIB SS Remington Custom Shop Model 7 in 7mm08, 22" barrel, 40-X Trigger, all on a composite McMillan stock. This was made by the same guy that made my Modle 700 .300SAUM. It it is basically their Alaska Wilderness Rifle, dressed just like my .300. These Rifles were made by a friend of Brian's that has since retired. We're talking full on hand built custom rifles at less than Walmart prices. My .300SAUM does under 7/8" 3 shot groups at 200 yards all day long with 180 grain Barnes TSX bullets doing just a hair under 3000fps even in very hard gusty wind conditions. I also have a Custom Shop Model 700 VS-SF II in .204 Ruger that is very sweet. the triggers on these rifles are just incredible! Regardless of the caliber debate I'd be stupid to pass up this opportunity. Very versatile round in AZ with low recoil, and in a configuration my boy can handle, and a heirloom quality rifle. Given the circumstances I've got to go with this rifle. I'm anxiously awaiting my his reply! That take care of one boy, I still have two more to go! Later, Matt Good for you I think even Lark would have to say GO FOR IT -

I have a extra G1 Contender I may part with to help buy a safe. It is not 100% as far as cosmetics go and gives me the impression it spent most of its life as a truck or saddle gun and not on the shooting range. The bore is clean and bright and shows little use. Locks up tight and everything is crisp. The Barrel is a 10" 30-30. Looking to get $400.00 F-to-F. May consider trade for a Auto handgun but would like to sell Here are a couple pics and can Email more.

The general school of thought is the 140gr. is the best all around bullet for the 7MM-08 and shoots flat with enough energy for Elk. I am really leaning towards 120 or 130 for Coues in mine. If your in Payson sometime he/you are welcome to shoot it and to see how you like it.
