I think a lot of it depends on how big the dog is and how much venom that got. My 35 lb dog got a bit pritty good and I'm glad we took her in.... even though we racked up a vet bill of about $1,600. Shes a female, and she is quit a character, and she got bit while a nast thunderstorm was rolling in and ever sence then she freaks out when she sences a storm coming.

That sounds like a great find. A lady I used to work for gave me an over-under, 22L on top and a 410 on bottom. i think it was a savage made bake in the 70's. I had no need for it so I sold it..... to someone else who could appreciate more then I would. Wasn't in mint condition like yours.

2007 & 2008 ARIZONA HUNT REGS AVAILABLE ONLINE
IHunt2live replied to AZP&Y's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The December 33 odds have been 6-8% for the past 5 years, after the number of permits was cut from 200 to 100. Kinda making me reconsider it as a choice. You are right. that hunt is tuff to draw. We should all stop putting in for it........ So i can have it all to myself. I've seen those odds, for almost all Dec hunts, and haven't even tried drawing a tag. I've stuck with Nov. hunts. Rife hunting that time of year sure sound like fun. I may have to start putting in for those hunts. -
That was my thought. I don't know about most of you but I the heat makes that hunt difficult to. I just don't like deer hunting when it is that hot. I'm not sure if its safe to say this but I would think most diehard hunters try for the Dec and Nov hunts I know i do and I think a lot of weekend woriers try in Oct.

An AZ look-see
IHunt2live replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Good luck Scottyboy. I don't have any pics of quail hunting scanned in, I'll try to do that sometime. I did find this pic of my dog Ginger that I like. I took this up in central Utah while i was working on a Sage Grouse research project. This valley with filled with Sage Grouse and i would take the dogs up to get some experience. It was tons of fun, The chicks were old enough to fly but young enough to hold realy tight so you could get some realy good dog work. On very right hand of the pic you can see the chick. and the Second pic is a close-up of the chick. Sory for the quality, the chick looks like a rock, but I didn't want to take my good camera out there to often. -
I had a dog that got bit on the leg and I ended up taking her in. She had been snake trained and shes not one to mess with a snake but I think she just ran right past it and she got bit. I didn't realise she got bit until I got her home. After only about a 30 min car ride she didn't want to move and I could tell her leg began to swell. Snake training is a very, very good idea it could mean the differnce in your dogs life but depending on how that dog is acting, I would probable take it in to the vet.

Like Coues 'n' Sheep I love just finding critters. Being right in the middle of the deers living room and having them not know you there while watching them go about their business is awesome to me. Also shareing that experience with friends and family, and introducing someone to the sport or a new spot, shareing knowledge is rewarding to me. -

Thanks for shareing ScottyBoy. I love quail hunting for all the different places it will takes you. I recognize your first picture in the scalie section haven't been in that area for a couple of years though. Scalie hunting is right up there with mearns for me. One reason is the more open country you find them and another is when you get them brocken up they hold so tight and my dog shines under those conditions. You also take some impresive pics. -
Got a late start yesterday but the weather was so nice down here in the south it realy didn't matter. I went back to were I got my deer last year and wanted to set up my trail camera at a nearby tank but didn't like what I saw so I ended up not seeting it up. My wife and I hiked all day and ended up with these two finds. Old and chalky but they beat going home empty handed. I found the one on the left first then I began to look for they other side and not thirty feet away i found the one on the right. It was getting late so we had to head back and didn't find the other sides but I'll be back there sometime. Not sure but I think the one on the left might have had a little dropper that broke off. You might be able to see it in the pics Saw lots of does but no bucks, realy wasn't looking to hard.

This has been another intrusting topic to fallow. I for one have never used salt..... I'm hoping to start tomorrow and I hope that they don't do away with it. I don't know much about the inner workings of the department and alot of stuff they do I don't understand but I don't think that they will be the downfall of hunting in our state. I like what Rembrant had to say. AZ population is getting out of hand, but who are we to say who can or can not live somewhere. Maybe we should all do what we wish we could and quit or jobs and just hunt, then AZ economy will crash and noone would want to move here. I think most of us here feel that the G&F is not full of morons, but there are enough morons high enough to make a difference. And I am greatfull for Mr. Hefflefinger's input in our site. I'm greatful that there are people like hime working for the Game and Fish and I wish there were more and I acculay hope to be one some day. Everyone is intitled to their oppinion and I'm glad we have a site like this that we all can share them and to get ripped a new one. Just my two cents

what does your trophy room contain?
IHunt2live replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Hey GameHauler its worlds better then mine. With my wife and I in a two room apartment and realy can't afford to mount anything this is the best I could do. At least my wife will let me have this. Shes great about it though and understands my passion and she accualy has contributed to the "Trophy Shelves" I'm still waiting on me bobcat to come back from the tanery and my elk has to stay at my parents because theres just no room. The second pic is mostly mulies that I found while working up in utah there are a few from AZ and theres a small 6 point bull in there. I'de like to take some better pics and I will as soon as I have some time and the room to spread them out. The two clean whitetail skulls my wife and I have shot other then that there just sheds or pickups. -

Thanks for all your insight Jim. All your post have been very informative and backed up with the stats. And its good to hear a biologist say that our deer herds will recover. -

Thats a good one Coosefan. Someone need to notify the G&F that hes shooting does -
I have yet been able to hunt much up north so I'm not to fimiliar with it all but how many bow hunters do you expect to see during that overlap? The few additional bowhunter in a unit i think is not all that much but once again I'm not to fimilar with hunting up there. If we are just talking about hunting pressure... when the archery deer hunt went to the day before the elk hunted started, didn't those elk got pushed around a feel a bit of pressure then to. I'm just putting this out there and accualy I think they should not overlap the hunts. I think the idea of letting those with elk tags take deer during that time is the best option. I feel sick just thinking about having an opertunity at a bull get spoiled by another hunter, so all you with elk tags, good luck and I hope you fill your tag.
