You're not gonna believe this........
IHunt2live replied to GRONG's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I'm glad you got your stuff back. Like Mikep35 said 99 percent of the time you never get your stuff back. Years ago my parents house was brocken into and all our guns were stolen. I think it was over two years later my brothers rife shows up at a pawn shop. The cops asked that we BUY it back at a discount price just so the pawn shop owner doesn't lose out. A load of crap if you ask me. Mike -
I don't know but would like to. Amanda..... could you fill us in?

Spirit of the Hunt
IHunt2live replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Heres one of my pup "Ginger". To me she embodies the true sprit of the hunt. Around the house she is a lazy little sissy but when the shotguns come out she a completly different dog. The fact that she's a "mut" is an example how the "common man" has no disadvantage to the rich man with all his fancy equipment when it comes to hunting. Its all about your heart and drive. I Love this dog. -
Anyone else have this happen?!

I just went out this afternoon to try to find the monster mulie I've seen but instead I saw 4 whitetails, one nice buck, probable in the 90's range, WAY WAY WAY down in the flats. I couldn't believe my eyes how far they were in the flats. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see them for myself. But hey... I'm not complaining at least I saw a buck. -
Man that thing took a beating! I think I might buy a jeep for my wifes next car and I'll take it out on the weekends to "Test its 4X4".

Quail hunt
IHunt2live replied to IHunt2live's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Sorry, i didn't get any close-ups of the scallies. My shorthair, Dewey, will be 3 in a few months. It sure took him a little while to catch on and last few years haven't been the best for quail so I couldn't get him into many birds. But hes finnaly getting it and thats all that matters. We should hook-up some time to chase some quail, maybe next year during my Winter brack from school. I have some friends that come down from Utah each year for about 3 days about that time and we usualy have a total of 12 dogs between all of us. It can be quit crazy. Of course we don't hunt them all the same time. Mike -
My dad hasn't been out but a few days all year so we went over near Wilcox for some quail. I'd been to this area earlier in the year and knew we would see plent of birds. After about 5 hours we ended up with 15 birds, 12 scallies and 3 gambles. I felt bad but I shot about 10 of those. I LOVE those scallies and so does one of my dogs. She just rips-it-up when shes on scallies. My shorthair continues to improve which I am VERY happy about. It just clicked all the sudden for him a few trips ago and he continues to do better each and ever time hes out. We did find a couple of mulie sheds but nothing worth showing. I also saw a herd of animals which I couldn't tell what they were, to far out. My dad said they looked like mulies but they didn't run like deer to me. My dog goes on point and we end up getting a little closer to them, 200 yards+, and I was able to make out the colors of antelope. I had no idea antelope were in that area so when I got home I looked it up sure enough they have tags in the area. news to me. Had a good time and I hope you enjoy these few pics. Mike

Awesome!! Jim, you are going to have to write a book that is a collection of some of your most unusual sightings like this one and the sharing-your-water-bottle-with-an-elk story. hehehe Amanda Thats an idea! Maybe there should be a CWT.com compolation of stories. I know that would be pretty difficult though. I'd love to hear about the sharing-your-water-bottle-with-an-elk story. Mike

2008 Mexico Coues and Muley pic's....
IHunt2live replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
I was just thinking how big those ears looked on your coues Casey, or is it just me? That bobcat has a realy gray coat to. The one I shot this time of year here in AZ was a lot more brown... of course it was a young cat. Great job to you all and it looks like you had boat loads of fun! -
Poor things. But thats just how nature is I guess.

Happens all the time. This year was the first year I've seen a javi while hunitng them and was lucky enough to take one. Seasons past I would spot them the day before the season to never see them again, would see plenty of deer that I was to inexperienced to shoot. I always see BIG deer out bird hunting and I've thought to cary my bow in the truck but I learned its useless to do so, pluse I hate to cary my bow in the back of the truck just to get rattled around and stepped on be my dogs. Just make a mental note of what you saw were. -
thats what I was going to say

I never grew up using hand guns in fact I've never even shot one before but I'm looking at getting one mostly to wear when I'm archery hunting or when I'm just hiking the hills looking for sheds. I'de like one that is light enough but has enough knock down power to put down a lion. I'm thinking I'de like a revolver. Any pointers for what I should look for? What are you guys thoughts on .38 44 and .357? Mike
-
No kidding. I've seen those bucks chase does and run off bucks for all but 1.5 hours in one day without even stopping to eat. Pure guys
-
WOW what a trophy that guy is! I don't think I could deal with the pressure filling a tag that took 26 years to draw.
-
How could such a large animal find shade in country like that? I probably wouldn't have even thought about looking in an area like that.
-
Great Job! Archery hunters are truely kicking but this year. Remeber everone that archery deer kills have to be reported.

Monster Archery Buck *UPDATED*

I herd only some units. I talked with a Game and Fish guy about it and he said it will probably be a while before, if at all, southern units go to an archery draw. Mike

O' My. That is one heck of a awesome Coues. Congrats to the hunter.

After spending half the day looking fo coues, I did see a few WAY down low, and have a quail hunting tromp through the area I decided I would look for a mule at a new location. After reaching my glassing spot I set up my tripod put on my binos looked right through them and there stood a doe. I ended up spotting 5 does and I thought this time of year the bucks wont be far. I spotted what I think was a small 4x4 which I was about to go after then this guy steps out. What a treat he was. Hes one of the bigest if not the bigest I've seen. Sorry its a little blury it was a long way out there and I took it through my spotting scope. I think I might have to try to find him again tomarrow. Enjoy, Mike
-
Saw him agian today as well as another big 4x4. Just coundn't get in on them. Mike

Thats a heck of a nice buck. I know quit a few people, including my own family, that had a hard time finding bucks in that unit this year.

I have Verizon and I get pretty good coverage in the southern part of the state. I haven't been all around the northern half much but those times I have I've had coverage. Mike

I hunted javelina back in high school for a couple of years without seeing a single one. While helping out my wife on her whitetail hunt we spoted several herds and when I found out that there were plenty of left over tags I decided to give Javelina hunting another try. I was clear up on a tall hill when I spoted a small herd of three, later I saw a couple of babies with them. They were at least 3/4 of a mile away in the flats so I made up my gameplan and went running after them. I got to the area were I last saw them and was half way up the side of the wash when I glanced over to my left and there stood one of them looking right at me. Thank goodness for their poor eyesight because they didn't run of. I got to about 60 yards before they went over the top of the other side of the wash and went out of site. I crosed the wash and went were I last saw them thinking that they would have kept moving when all the sudden they jump up from their bad at about 15 yards. I made a quick "wuff" which stoped one long enough for a shot. The shot was a littlie high and grased his back. I was pretty upset about the shot as they ran off but I quickly fallowed. I couldn't see them in the thick brush so I pulled out my predator call, gave a few blows, and they came running back. I saw the one I had grazed as it came charging at me so I took a shot, which I like to avoid, whith it looking right at me. He went right down after the arrow hit him in the head. I couldn't believe my eyes when it got back up so I put another shot in him which finished the job. Archery javelina hunting is a blast and I think I might have to try it agian.
