I know tyson. I've only found a few muledeer sheds, Az mule deer, found a bunch up in Utah. I have always found them while quail hunting and we cover a LOT of ground. Worth a try though amd its a good excuse to get out.
-
Thanks for asking. I was about to ask myself. There is a heck of a nice buck that I know is still out there and I sure would love to get his shed. With the mule deer numbers being so low though finding a shed is like finding a neadle in a hay stake. When do they drop.?.?.?

Can you just salt the hide for sale or do they expect it to be tanned to? I'd love to shoot some yotes to but can't justify just leaving them out there and I'm not set up to tan either. Mike

I don't know when they are but I sure hope I can get to a couple.

Looking for quail North of Pheonix
IHunt2live posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I hate to do this. I know how a lot of you feel about E-scouting and I feel the same way but.... I have a brother that lives in Anthem, north of Pheonix, who is looking at chasing some quail. Being from Tucson himself and I don't got that far north we know no areas up there. He just got himself a pointer thats about a year old now that needs to see some birds. He just got lied-off from Pulte Homes and may be moving out of state this summer so he would like to chase the quail while he still has a chance. Thanks for reading. You can PM me if you would rather not disclose any info publicly. Mike -

Thanks guys! My brother got out today and he had his best hunt up there this year. He realy needed a trip like he had. He said his pup did realy well. We have been working with her, she was gun-shy, but it looks like she is getting over it. Here is a pic that he sent me. -
Thats way they call it hunting. Thats neat that you got some video of him. This past month was the first time I've ever chased after 1 deer and boy does it add a whole new level to your hunt. I only saw him two days and never did see him agian.

Congrats on that great buck! I'm glad you were able to take him yourself after all that work you put in.

Good luck NOFX. I hope you enjoy the work when your done. I've thought about refinishing my citori. I've put a few scuffs on it while quail hunting. I think I might wait till I REALLY scuff it up though. I think the nice thing about just trying the Tru-oil first is that its a lot easier to take it off and try it again if you need to. Just remember LOTS of THIN COATS is the best. The more coats you put on the better it should look. sand it good and smooth between the coats. Mike

Um.... that looks like a good idea

NOFX, Just the Tru-Oil will probable give you the natural look and darken the grain a bit for you.

Operation Bear Bones

I feel the same way. I think these guys got off pretty easy. Don't know what they did with the bears but they could have made money in this deal. -
Nice shed! Got realy deep forks.

I once refinished a stalk on a 410/22 combo rife and I was pleased at how it turned out. First take the stock and forearm off, make life much easier. Second I sanded off all the old finished and smoothed out all the dants. Lucky the checkering wasn't in that bad of shape so I left it alone. Then I used layers and layers of Tru-Oil made by Birchwood-Casey, You should find it at most gun shops. I found the best way to apply each layer is to use your fingers and hand. Between the layers lightly sand with steelwool or very fine sand paper. Birchwood-Casey has a complet refinishing kit for pretty cheap on their web page but it also includes stain. I liked using just the TRU-OIL Hope this helps. Mike

Back when I was in grade school I remember my dad's friend offered to sell my dad a prototype of a rife that was made for Jack O'connor. I sure wish he had but he didn't. -

Have you ever heard a scallie call? I hunt with a guy, 50+ years old, who grew up hunting in AZ and I FINALLY convinced him of their call. I've herd it all season long this year. Usualy they call only in the first part. You can use the same call you use for gambles. -

Hey Red Rabbit. I was thinking the same thing with this rain. You said you herd a call? was it a courtship call already? I didn't know this till just a few month ago but the males will not call for females unless they are healthy enough to breed. Not only does hearing them mean that they are out there but that they are healthy. Mike -
For sure a great buck. look at how big that buck's neck is!

Ethics of Finding a Trail Camera
IHunt2live replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I just looked at the game and fish regs and its worded like this: " It MAY be unlawful to leave treestands hanging or blinds set for an extended period of time. They MAY be considered abandon property and subject to seizure." Now the "may" part seems a little vague to me. But either way unless you're a game and fish officer or work for the forest service etc. then its not your job to determine whether or not it's "abandoned" and its not up to your discretion on whether or not to "seize" it. Now I have a climbing stand so I don't leave mine up for more than a day at a time anyway, but a friend of mine had his climbing treestand stolen while we were on a hunt. Ridiculous. Thats what I say. Unless you have the authority you can't "seize" it, you "stole" it. -
Ya he's not bad .... Just kidding.... what a buck! Love the bent G3's

Thought I would share this with you all in case any of you have thought about doing it. My wife had these ivories kicking around from a cow she shot when she was 12. I thougnt I would have one of them made into a pendent for her. I looked around the net for a while and found a jeweler up in Idaho that I thought did good work and had good prices. I talked with them for a few weeks and sent off the ivory. They made sure it was clear what I wanted and would I should expect. They had it done in only one week! I was very pleased with what they did with it. I liked how there was an antler on either side that raped upwards on the ivory. My wifes elk was VERY old so the ivories were realy flat so it limited what they could do with it. I thought they did good work. Mike

Nice Buck! My wife and her dad have hunted in an area that seems to have the 2X genes. Even the realy old 2X bucks they took aren't that big. Great Job!

Nice Buck! I would love to get my hands bloody from even a spike that I flung an arrow at. -
I've seen some whitetails WAY down low and WAY out in flats this year. I'm guessing one, its partly whitetails continuing to expand their range and second the rut making the bucks range wide and pushing does around.
