One heck of a buck right there. congrats!

I had a great time despite the wind. I know we all love to give casey a bad time about shooting the horns off of his buck but I have to say that he knows how to shoot a rifle. Never been with him on deer but on the yotes I've seen him make some great shots. Next time Casey, lets try calling one into me OK?

I'm in. Give me a call with the details.

For what and how long?

Muzzy has worked great for me. Look what they can do to a thick pig skull, at a pretty sharp angle to. I also took a cow elk several years ago with muzzy 3 blades and put her down in just a few min and she didn't go more then 5 yards, yes 5 yards. Wasn't the greates shot, but hit her liver but the damage was done.

Congrats Jed.

I spent some time on Sipe this summer and I saw plenty of yotes out there.

Not sure were I should put this but I thought you all might get a kick out of it. I got it in an e-mail a freind sent me. http://bewareofthedoghouse.com/video.aspx -
I knew there was a chance I could get wet but I think when you hunt on a day like it was today the hunting gods smile down on you because of your willingness to brave such weather. Filled my limit quickest I’ve ever done. 2 hours and I was headed home. Went to a spot I’ve never been but not 100 yards from the truck my shorthair turns on his heals and goes on point. He found a few other coveys as well. He did a pretty good job, I took 6 birds just running my shorthair. Those coues were sure holding tight in this weather as well, I jumped a couple and I was no more the 100 yards from them. Sorry no action shots, went solo and was to bussy to take pics.

Now thats just WRONG!!! That last pic looks like it is a double main beam.

Morning Mearns

Will do. And about the final... sucked as bad as all his tests but I think I did ok. -
I should have been studying for 3 finals I have next week but a man has needs! So my dad and I went out looking for meaerns. I’m still trying to locate some good spots for mearns so I had a general idea were I wanted to go then I saw a spot I liked then hunt it. Took a little while but we eventually found some birds. once we got into them we did pretty good. I felt bad because my dad didn't have nearly as many chances as I did. My dogs seem to like to hunt around me and my dad isn't quick enough but he got some shooting in. My shorthair, Dewey, is FINALLY getting I think, he had several soild points. each time he goes out hes getting better and better. Sure he bumps birds here and there but hes learning. We had one covey that Dewey had a soft point on, Ginger, my other pup, goes on point 40 yards away and dewey relocates and locks up soild right along ginger. I try to get my dad into a good spot for a shot but about 10+ birds get up and had strait at me. I could have knocked some out of the sky with the barrel of my gun. I LOVE MEARNS. One did peal off tawards my dad and had the same thing happen, going strait at him and as he tryig to swing the gun over his head he loses his footing and falls to the ground. It was a great time. I feel so much relief seeing my shorthair finally coming on. its taken him a while but he will get it. Here are a few pics, enjoy.

Where do Mearns typically Roost at night?
IHunt2live replied to Billinsd's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Yep they roost on the ground. I've heard people say that they will aviod the COLD bottom of draws and they will but up high on western facing hills to soak up the last bit of warmth from the sun. Thats all I've heard, haven't experienced it much my self. But for sure they roost on the ground hudled in a group. -
Congrats on your buck! A trophy for sure, and think you could do it all over again in a couple of weeks. See you friday.

Thanks for shareing. You gotta love the mearns! My dogs freak out when they herd that hawk scream. I hope to be hitting them pretty hard the next couple of months, maybe we'll see you out in the feild. -

Chuckar
IHunt2live replied to Mr. Jonathan's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Ive always wanted to but they are SO far out of my way. I have a budy up in Utah that is a hard core chuckar hunter and tells me all about it. One day I'll make it up there for a hunt. I just talked to him though and he said this year was not very good for them up there. He is planning on comeing down here for a 2-3 day quail hunt in the end of January and he just loves the fact that he can shot so many birds in one day. -

We found a dog up in the sipe area who had a name and # on the collar and we tried calling the number and it was disconected. If I was to run hounds I would make sure that I had correct info on the collar.

One heck of a nice mount. i wish I had a telant like that. -
I was asking the same thing and I also thought they probably came from that area. I worked up there and yes there are not many big ones at all. Historicaly there weren't any pronghorn up there but now there a TONS. They have 3, i think, perminent corals for cathcing pronghorn on that mountain.

Morning Mearns
IHunt2live replied to IHunt2live's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Now that you mention it, I can. The dogs bumped them up I take it? Amanda They did their job, they held point long enough for us to get up there. Under that tree was all tourn up from them digging. That must have been the first one to get up out of about 10 in the covey. Couldn't put down the camera fast enough and put my gun up for a shot. I made up for it by getting a few singles.
