Question for you guys I have a remington 700 sps 7rum going to build a new gun around the action thought about changing it to a 300 rum is this a mistake or should I keep it a 7mm. Thanks
-
Thanks again for the info. I shoot a 7mmRum and my son killed his Bull this year with it at 780 yds, so this is his rifle that I am building. With him being 13 years old I believe I will go with the 300 Rum for him, and when my 7mm barrel is shot out I will build a 338 edge or lapua for that. From the sounds of your replys you cant go wrong with any of them. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply's so far. Another question why do the 300 rum and 7rum burn barrels faster than say a 338 rum or are all rums barrel burners when you say 338 should I consider a lapua, or edge. Thanks again.

The family had a fun year of hunting didn't shoot the biggest bucks but had fun. First is my sons jr hunt 300 yard shot with his 270wsm. Second was my hunt passed this buck a few times and decided to shoot him on the 4th day he is a 2pt with eye guards. The third is my wifes hunt was just looking for a branch antlered buck shot him at 638 yards with her 270wsm. The elk hunt was my sons first bull shot him at 780 yards with his 7rum.

270 wsm and H4350 question
Hunt7112 replied to Hunt7112's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Based on the hogdon website with different bullets of the same weight(130 gn) and H4350 would it be safe to start at slightly lower charges, and watch my signs, or is it to critical with different bullet lengths, and seating depths. My thoughts were to start at 60gr and possibly work up. -
270 wsm and H4350 question
Hunt7112 replied to Hunt7112's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks for the responses maybe I am being to concerned over this. I lost 130 fps in my 7mm rum with IMR7828 and was trying to avoid it with my sons 270 wsm. So I thought I would try to start his load development with a less temperature sensitive powder. I still have to test some more of the RL22 loads and will be testing some H4350 loads. However I still can't seem to find the min and max for the nosler 130 gn ballistic silver tip with H4350 -
270 wsm and H4350 question
Hunt7112 replied to Hunt7112's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I thought I would try the H4350 due to it being less temperature sensitive, not that the 4831sc is all that temperature sensitive. Started with RL-22 and found out it is suppose to be very sensitive however was very accurate. Since I have already purchased the H4350 would like to give it a try. I may soon be buying H4831sc. Thanks -
Looking for some advice. Developed my load for my 7mm RUM in august-early september shooting in the early mornings and evenings temps were in the high 80's to low 90's was averaging 3360fps shot yesterday with the temps 67-68 degrees the chrono was avg of 130 fps slower is this to be expected, and should I work and develop this load to match our weather during hunting seasons.

I have seen illegal activity in all of the units. Especially in December make sure you don't put in for those hunts so I can go back after a very scary encounter with the drug smugglers and hunt during the rut. It could be very dangerous for you to hunt here so don't put in for these hunts.

My wife is at work the other day, and a lady she works with that knows we hunt tells her that they were down south on her sons first deer hunt. She begins telling my wife that they found this camera, so they took it. My wife tells her that the camera belongs to some hunter and you need to put it back. She did not understand that hunters would leave their cameras out in the desert. My wife explained why we leave cameras out, but these people had no idea. My wife said she was convinced that they were going to put it back. Someone may be missing a camera. It just made me think that maybe a name tag small explanation on camera might keep idiots from taking cameras. I will have my wife follow up with this lady find out what unit and if they actually put it back.

My son drew the youth tag we were primarily hunting for whitetail, and had glassed up 7 different bucks with the nicest being a nice 3pt but missing his left side completely. We watched these bucks until they bedded and came in above them, found the 2pt that was in the group and set up for a 324 yd shot with gusting winds, figured the angle and adjusted the yardage but shot just to the side of him. So we decided to hunt some mulies hoping for maybe a closer shot with the windy conditions. We glassed up a small 2pt and a spike, and no shot in the brush. We found a 2x3 at 11:15 laying on a hillside so we set up his 270wsm dialed in the yardage to 260 yds as I watched through the binos I asked him if he was on him, Hunter said yep I said take him. His first shot actually split his heart in half, but the buck jumped up and looked as if he was going over the hill, so I told him to put another one in him, and he did the buck dropped on the spot. If I knew exactly where the first shot hit I wouldn't have had him shoot again but everything happend so fast. This is Hunter's second buck last year he shot a spike. There is nothing more fun than watching your son shoot a buck.

I have been playing around with my 7 RUM loads I believe I am close to what I am looking for. I have 85.6 grains of IMR 7828 topped with a 150 grain scirocco the average mv 3370 with a .75 group at 200 yds my coal is 3.60. My question I have loaded several more rounds but have changed the coal to see if this improves my accuracy. Does lengthening my coal create more pressure or less. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info I bought a oal guage from hornady and found with my remington 700 xcr that there is so much free bore that when the bullet touches the lands it is completely out of the shell case. So I wont be seating very close to the lands at all. I feel comfortable with the group so far I think by tweaking the coal in small increments I should be able to find what the gun likes best. If my pressures are fine at my shortest coal of 3.60 then do you think my pressures will be fine at 3.650 which is the longest round I have loaded
