I drew unit 22 mule deer from 11/01 - 11/07 this year. I also have the elk tags for the same unit a moth later. I have been doing a lot of research on the elk. Any good starting points as far as areas for the Mule deer would be awesome

I was thinking about the Mt Ord area. Not sure where Hells Gate is.

I have one kennel for these dogs and as you can see its not your typical kennel. The dog house is 7' x 10' x 9'. it is fully insulated on all six sides and its is equipped with and A/C unit. They have only used it when the female is in heat the last two times. Many of the male's blood line come from Haus Von der Crossner Ranch and I am proud to have that line in my contribution to the breed of Haus Von der Schnee. These animals are very well taken care of. .

I should have some Rottweiler puppies for sale ate the end of Sept. I am located is east Apache Junction, AZ. These are German Rottweilers. My male is 2 1/2 yrs and female is 1 1/2 yrs. she will be in here 3rd heat in two weeks. They are excellent companions/pets. very protective of their masters and are excellent guard dogs. PS: West of Green Valley is looking good for elk. I was up there last weekend and saw lots of droppings. I know its 8 months off, and no sheds yet.

I am new to Elk hunting. I just drew for unit 22 south for 11/29-12/05 for bull elk and am trying to find out as much as I can about the unit. I thought I would try and enter the unit from 34°17'29.83"N 110°51'41.55"W at least as a start.

Also, There are quite a few places to stay. I do have an idea of where I am going to start scouting now. I have a friend that is from the area and he did not draw a tag this year. He will definitely have my ear because he lives in the area.

I saw that there are a few BNBs that back up directly on the unit. I was going to do some glassing and see in I could get one of those. I do not think a tent is going to be an option for this hunt. Last year the temp ranged from 30 ° as a high to 1° for a low.

Now there is a business idea. You only work from August to January and sit on you butt the rest of the year watching TV and drinking beer.

Where is the optimal spot to drop an elk. Head heart etc., I would like to drop him m\if I get a good shot.. I would rather not chase for 2-3 miles if I can avoid it.

All of these are great tips. Thanks for them. I was hunting whitetail last Oct with a semi auto just for the reason of a fast follow up shot but also found that the rifle was too dang heavy. I know that I would need a bullet and load for elk that is not a semi auto platform. I have had the 06 for years and can deliver a follow up relatively quick. I think my comfort zone is within 700 yards tho and won't take a shot past that.

I have taken a hunter ed coarse and know about the kitchen. I just here of others that shoot for head, neck, spine etc and drop them in their tracks. That was the basis of my question. I have hunted in CA and here last year in 24B just southeast of Roosevelt. In Oct. I only saw one buck when I was scouting but, lots of tracks in the area so, I hunted there. I have yet to make a kill. I have however have bought a Hunt/fish combo every year for the last 10 years if nothing else to support the G&F and our wild life foundations. I am a decent shot, maybe not the best on the planet but decent. I will be hunting with a Savage 30-06 and using a load I have came up with. 168gr BTHP, 46.6gr IMR8208XBR powder. Seems to be a stable and consistent load. I have not put it thru a chrono yet but, I will be the next time I go shoot.

Saw a video last night on gutless quartering. seems easy enough. I know seems does not mean is. I will be watching more videos and reading a little more about it. I'll need to get another knife, not that I need another but a good american made one would be nice. I saw on weatherunderground that the overnight temp in Payson during the hunt dates last year was between 1° and 8°. I guess that means that camping is out of the question. I'll need to look into hotels or possibly renting a cabin for a week.

So, I have been told that I am extremely ill prepared for this hunt. More or less. I have been told that I need a quad ATV or I will be eating the elk just to survive the haul back to the truck. I had a buddy that said it took him 8 hours to drag an elk back to his truck with an ATV and I had better have a wench in my flat bed trailer. As it would turn out I do not have either. My plan was to cut apart and take it 200 -300 yards at a time.

I believe that's right on the border of 22S and 23. and just south of 22N
