Because I cannot stand all the hounds running through the mountains while I am glassing. On a serious note I use all Leupold mark5 3-18. that is about double your budget. honestly within your budget a vortex viper 2 would be fine some of the lower leupolds vx5 for example or possibly a used tango 6? I have had really bad luck in the military and with my dept with trijicon not holding zero. I have heard good things about arken but have never seen or used one.
