I again with some and disagree with others. I myself still shoot the first rifle that was all mine!! Sure I have had it rebarreled but after over 30 years what can i say. oh by the way it is a Remington 721 300 H&H with a leupold 10X fixed power scope also over 30 years old. I shoot 168gr Berger vlds. AzTrapper Thats why i say range it, click it and only one shot.

How could anyone pass up home made chili, I know I am still planning on being there! I will bring a side dish for sure. Maybe go do some calling during the day on my way down and fix some of my famous coyote pie while everyone is eating. I am also looking forward to meeting everyone AzTrapper

I say shot whatever your comforable with be it a 6mm-06 or a 300 whatever. But I also think of the animal I want to make sure of two things first it dies quick and i do not have to spend hours tracking it. and second how much meat is going to be wasted. I have a friend who is a meat cutter and now lives in Dudleyville who also hunts who has kept track of this for well over 15 years and countless animals from whitetail to elk and if I remember right the 300's do not waste as much as smaller guns. I am can remember back when i could sneak up and shoot things at 50 yards or less but that was before the back when bad and the knees did as well now i still enjoy hunting as much as i ever did I just learned to shoot a little farther. Just let me know if you want to know how to get into the area around me, I would be more than happy to show you so maybe you can find a nice buck for you son. I am starting to spend a day or two a week out looking for a decent buck for me and starting to do more predator calling. AzTrapper

One place you might want to do some looking is in the North east corner of 36A. I spend a couple days a week out and have been seeing some nice Muley's almost each time out. I have the Nov. Whitetail hunt in 36A so I out looking also starting to do a lot of predator calling as well in that unit. So if you see a older black Suburban say hello. AzTrapper

I live close to Pima Mine Rd and Mission Rd. So I spend some time close to home looking at wildlife and such. I have the Nov. Whitetail hunt but can say there is a fair number of bucks in the area south of Pima Mine Rd. and North of Mageeville. When I am bored i go to the west end of Pima Mine rd. and glass from there and south and have watched both whitetail and mule deer. Access can be a little trickly so let me know if you need any help in that department. AzTrapper

October Get Together in 36's
AzTrapper replied to azcouesandelk's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I would be interested as well I have a Nov. Whitetail hunt in 36A. But plan on hunting the north end. AzTrapper -
I am sure that more that a few here have tied up as much in our rifles and such, You will find the people on that list very helpful as well. There is a interesting article on setting up the equipment for low cost I know they have helped me a lot over time to increase the range i feel comfortable shooting at. Right now i am saving my pennies to build a long range pistol for hunting I shoot a T/C 35 Rem. pistol now on some hunts, the best with it was a Javalina several years ago at 525 yards one shot, and several deer at 200-350 yards all but one shot to connect. One deer at 200 yards I shot over because i miscounted the clicks on the scope. Most of the time I hunt with a rifle 300 H&H with a lepould T-10 scope with a dot. I have been shooting this gun since 1972 and have had it re-barreled once. AzTrapper AzTrapper

I am also on another list Long Range Hunting. Where they take long range hunting to a different level 1000 Yard shots are not unheard of. Here is a link to what they say about it. http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f17...range-game-115/ They use a spotter and radios to find their game. It is interesting to read how animals react when shot or missed at long range as well, and a interesting bit about shooting 2 miles with a black powder rifle as well as several about 1 mile as well. I was going to avoid posting about BEAR HUNTING ETHICS but it has gotten to the point I have to add my two cents. This started as a post about wasting game meat which is wrong! to many posts about do it my way or don't do it, to lion hunting, deer hunting, elk hunting, hunting with hounds and more. I myself would much rather eat a bear in the 100-200 pound range than one that’s a big old 300-400 pound bear. If your a trophy hunter then by all means wait until you find the animal you would be proud of, if your a meat hunter then by all means shoot what is the best to eat to you and be proud! But then again the was started as post about wasting game meat. So this guy or guys were not meat hunters, they only wanted the hide so in some ways you could say they were trophy hunters ( but to me they were not even hunters). I have seen so many fights in clubs and on lists about do it my way or it's the wrong way. I am glad you turned them in, I hope they get caught!!! Maybe calling the taxidermists to see if they have taken in a small bear like that would also help the Game and Fish. It shouldn't be hard to find a small bear like that. If I stepped on anyone toes I am sorry! AzTrapper

W.O.T The only trapping i do anymore is damage work on private land, My back and knees do not allow me to push as hard as I use to. If I get any calls I will let you know ( I will save your post ) Doing private damage is something I enjoy as you are trying to catch one or maybe a family unit. By the way the bear hunt did not go well the wind was unreal around Greer and that does not help calling. I did try and no luck but I did get to see lots of elk and deer so tha always make getting out worth the trip. AzTrapper

I am leaving Thursday night for the upcoming Oct-5 Bear hunt. We are going to camp close to Greer and was wondering if anyone else is going to be up in that area? I will be driving a 1983 Black Chev. Suburban, there might be a couple of other people coming up as well they can't make up their minds. We will be doing a lot of calling to see if we can find one without cubs, I was up there for the early hunt and called in 3 different bear all with cubs. If your going to be in that area maybe we can meet up for coffee or something. AzTrapper

No sweat. Where do you sell your pelts anyway? Anybody by coon skins anymore? We ship our fur to NORTH AMERICAN FUR AUCTIONS, Yes they and other do buy raccoon skins. they are put up different than most fur as you have to put a "window" in them so they can be graded. The Arizona Trappers Assoc. also have a auction but most of the time prices are not as high but you do get your money right a way. Shipping to NAFA can be a waiting game if your fur is sold right away, they have a auction every month I believe so it can take several months for your fur to sell.

Wish I'd have know that in Aug. I walked right past one at less than 30 yards & paid him no mind. On my way to my treestand. Are fox pelts worth anything? I've seen a few of those over in 27 too. Well a August bobcat would not have been legal I believe the season opened in Sept. We always wait a little till Oct. then you still will have a lower grade pelt. Fox last year were around the 30-45 dollar range. So letting the Bobcat walk by was a good thing! AzTrapper The regs say it opened Aug 1. We would have been legal. Sorry you are right my mistake AzTrapper

36A trail cameras
AzTrapper replied to AzTrapper's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Heck it wasn't my camera so why take I wouldn't want my taken, I was temped to pull the card and look at it with my card reader then replace it. But didn't think it would be right either. I have been watching and looking for a "nice" buck i saw last year during my mule deer hunt. But have only found him once in the last month. I have a Nov. hunt in 36a which is in my back yard so to speak, AzTrapper -
If you are the person who has several trail cameras in 36A the north east part of the unit to be closer yet not give things away. I would like to apologize for walking around where your cameras are or at least a couple of them I was putting out cameras and found two places that looked perfect to me. And found out someone else has their cameras there. I will be the guy with the white beard who may have tripped them several times. But they are still there and I found different places for mine. So if you see a black (faded) older suburban that’s me. Stop me and we can share notes or a cup of coffee AzTrapper
