    Berger Bullets

Jason I went with the Moly for several reasons one from talking with Dave Miller, and Frank Wells (gunsmiths in tucson) They both said that they help "restore" older barrels by filling in pits and such in the barrel, and that will improve groups as well as cut the air better. In my 300 H&H I found the following to be true- the groups tightened up from 1 1/2 - 2 at two hundered yards to 3/4 to 1 inch. Using the same powder and such I also found they have less drop as well. So this was a win win for me and other than having to build a new "cheat" sheet for longer ranges. AzTrapper

    Berger Bullets

Good looking Fox one of my favorite animals! I shoot the 168 grain Berger Moly's in my 300 H&H and they work great faster flater shooting than anything else I have tried. I don't think you can go wrong with them. AzTrapper

    Best electronic caller???

Yes we have been busted by them more times than I wish to admit to! What we do is wait a day or two and then go back into that area and setup within a couple of hundered yards or so to the last stand where we had been busted at. We also use a different sound and decoy as well. We have some places we have been able to call in several cats over the course of a season or seasons. We try and run our calling lines just like we used to run our trap lines and that seems to work pretty well. We keep track of sounds we use on the calling lines and change them if we are busted or miss a shot, but will use the same sound when we harvest on that stop. You will find some stops that will produce almo0st everytime and some you did to drop or change. But keep track of stops that produce and with what type of sound. Don't be afraid to also try a totally different sound when calling predators we have called in coyotes and cats down in the desert using a lost turkey sound or raccoon sound. Another thing we do is when calling we may change the sound after 15 minutes or so, Maybe start of with a sound thats totally different then change to say a rabbit sound. AzTrapper

    Best electronic caller???

That sounds like a heck of an operation! Glad to hear it is working for you, and i hope you're back hunting hard again soon. I'd like to go calling with you, but i live all the way up here in Vegas... but i actually still might take you up on that! Thanks for the information about the Bobcat in heat sound. I think lions court this time of year too, but they might be almost done. And like Josh asked, do you play that sound continuously, or on and off? For how long? Bobcat is one of the main things i'd like to call... does a decoy help a lot with them? Thanks. I due run the Bobcat in heat for the full time on the stand which for cats is 30-45 minutes, I feel if you do not they lose interest and you have lost them. They also have a Mountain Lion in heat as well that also works well. Cats we have found go into heat between the end of Jan. thur the end of the season. We leave the call run when we make a stand even in so called coyote country because of the cats that are there. It doen't seem to bother coyotes or fox leaving the call run and again I believe it helps on the cats. Yes we use decoys of some type most of the time it is a couple of long chicken feathers or turkey tail feathers, I also add a little bit of trapping lure as well to the decoy stick even with cats not having the nose of a k-9. The lure can be plain beaver caster, catnip or one of the other cat type lures. My basic set-up is such I sit the caller 30-50 yards away depending on the country with the decoy at the call with some lure placed there also. Wind wise we do not worry about it but do try and set up with sun to our back and a cross wind if we can, we also spray a mix of urines and lures around where we sit to help mask and or confuse our scent (just one or two quick sprays into the brush and air is all) then we start call and watch. Hope that helps some, AzTrapper

    Best electronic caller???

Thanks AzTrapper, and good luck on your hunt with that back! Yeah, they seem to have some of the best prices too. I think their price for a camo version is cheaper than the regular version on the foxpro website. The fact that they would recommend which calls to program in would help me out alot as well. And that's good info on the FX5 vs. FX3, I was trying to decide whether or not the extra $200 is worth it. Thanks about the back it is coming along pretty good I had a spinal stem implant to control pain and it is working I feel more like walking and doing things Did miss my cow elk hunt as the implant was done during the hunt. The guys at All Predator Calls are very helpful on programing and do not try and rush the programing unit. Have a basic idea of what you are wanting to call and what sounds you might want to use when you call and ask for any help, I have my FoxPro 3 program for hunting several species of animals includeing elk, bear, deer, pigs, turkey bobcat, greyfox and last of course coyote. Most of the predator sounds work for any predator but having some sounds for each as well is nice. I have in the past called all in the list and have had a ball doing so. So think about having your call set up for different animals. Some sounds work better certain times of the year like the Bobcat in heat I have a friend who has killed over 15 bobcat in the last 3 weeks on that sound alone. If you in the Sahuraita area an want to look and maybe go out calling to see how it works let me know. AzTrapper

    10 year wait...

Joe Glad to hear everything went better the last weekend for you, I ended up having to cut my hunt short and not hunting at all Sunday and not being able to come around your camp Saturday night either. When I left from where I was glassing I also lost my cell phone (went back this morning and it was still where I lost it). Hope you guys do better on your pig hunt! Sorry I put you guys in that area with the way the bucks changed overnight. I feel bad for your little hunter putting in the work he did and not getting a deer! At least you found some area you want to go look at again. Tell Garrett I say Hello! AzTrapper

Saturday will be your day, I bet it's a 3X3! But only one soda Folk I have had the pleasure to be around Garrett for a little bit of time while he is hunting. His Dad has done well with Garrett he is one of the safest people i have been around when he has his gun. Safer than many adults I have seen. AzTrapper

    coyotes

Not sure what you mean, please explain. Putting up the fur is a term used to cover skinning (most fur bearers are case skinned) Flesh the hide ( remove any meat and fat let on the hide when skinning) Repair any damage. Dry the hide also called stretching the fur ( Stretching is not really done you really are pulling the hide tight on a fur form or stretcher) It really is a easy task once you have done it. Let me know if you need more details I will try and write up detail or find a article I did back in the 70’s about it. AzTrapper

    coyotes

Would like to sell some furs this year but dont know who buys them do you know anybody close to the flagstaff area? Your best bet for top price is to ship to NAFA or contact Cindy Seff the president of the Arizona Trappers Assoc. about their Auction they have each year in Globe. Call your local Game and Fish and they can give you contact information. If they don't have it let me know I get e-mail from them from time to time/ Shipping will make you more money anywhere from 25%-50% more. It'easy to ship. You should have some nice coyotes and good cats I would bet coyotes might go as high as $30-$45 ave. and for a nice cat over $350 each. AzTrapper

    Whitetail rifle for my wife

What has been said sound like sound advice, you may want to also think about a muzzle brake as well to help with recoil. Most of all make sure it is fitted to your wife and have a good recoil pad as well installed. At lot of times smaller people handle the recoil better than us large people as they wil go with the flow so to speak where we fight it. AzTrapper

    coyotes

I have been out a few times this season mainly working on fox and bobcats. But taking a few yotes as well. With the dollar going down the fur will really be up this season. Thats the only thing good about a weak dollar higher fur prices! Do you guys skin and sell or just shoot for fun? AzTrapper
  18. Is this contest a shooting calling contest? or just a stand up and call? when is it and details please AzTrapper
  19. AzTrapper

What caliber do you use and why?

I use one of three guns for big game depending on different things which I won't get into First and favorite is a Remington 721 300 H&H Mag. It has a 26 inch barrel 10X leupold scope. I have shot this gun since 1972, had it rebarreled and added the 10X scope in 1973 It was built for shooting long range. The reason is it was a gift for my parents when i got out of high school and was built and refinished by Frank Wells who is going to rebarrel and refinish it after this years hunt seasons. will add another 4-inches to the barrel at that time and a muzzle brake and maybe a new scope it will still shoot 1 1/2-2 inch groups at 200 yards if i do my part. Part of the reason for the rebarrel is want to improve the groups with 150-168 grain bullets. Second choice a T/C 35 Rem handgun allows me to have a lighter gun to carry than the 300 H&H yet still have a decent range and allows me to put in for ham hunts. ( My favorite bear gun) Third choice is a Remington 788 in 22-250 this is my "back up" rifle so to speak. What do i think is the best Whitetail gun thats easy- The one you like that will do the job and you shot the best, and you know the best. AzTrapper

    Coyote hunting

Well I am south of Tucson and Southern Arizona Coyotes will bring $30.00 and more. You grew up around fur so you should know that eastern coyotes do not bring as much as western dogs. Southern Texas Bobcats most of the time sell for less that $150.00 each and the last I knew Kanasa Bobcats didn't do that well. Color and other things effect the price as well. Most coyotes from back east may have heavy fur but is course and not soft like ours. AzTrapper

    Coyote hunting

What kind of prep work is needed before you ship them? How exactly does it work? Do you ship a bunch of raw hides and wait to see what they get at auction? Im just interested. Thanks You have to of course skin them, flesh them if it is needed and dry them. Then ship them and yes you wait until the auction to what they bring, thats part of the fun so to speak the unknown or prices. You can get more detail on fur handling at the National trappers Assoc. web site or the Arizona Trappers Assoc. web site, Most calling clubs also have information about fur handling. Sportmans Warehouse does have a few fur stretchers in thier stores I would for calling get at least 2-number 6 1 number 5 and 1- number 4 That will allow you sto put up everything from fox to coyotes the right way. You don't really want to stretch the fur just pull it "tight" so it drys correct. With bobcats you really want to do them right as it can effect the prices a LOT. I am in sounthern Arizona and with prices going to be higher this year saving fur is well worth the time. Bobcats from around here can go for as high as 500.00 dollars each with most in the 300.00 dollar range. and Coyotes in the 30.00 and grey fox 30.00 as well. so a few animals will buy a new rifle or pay for a fishing or hunting trip. 23. I really believe you would be! I did find a couple of good bucks up behind the house and have watched them for a few days, the only problem is where both of them are hanging out it will be a long shot 700-800 yards. Again thanks for hosting the gettogether and such. It was a pleasure to meet you and your dad. I was kind of funny how small a world it really is finding out that Pops I believe was his name livied 2 houses down from a friend. I was glad even know my hunt doesn't start till 11-9 I drove down to meet eveyone, it only took about a hour to get back to my front gate. AzTrapper
  24. Darn with all the nice/great bucks the younger hunters are taking the standards have been pushed pretty high! Guess I better get back out to the range and do some more shooting push the range out a little farther as well. Hey Younghunter you going to come down and carry out my buck for me? AzTrapper
