Actually I treed one when I was packing in the camp, and it was probably what spooked those deer out of the canyon.

Well after four weekends of scouting and info gained on this forum I was able to have a great hunt. After seeing this buck so many times in the same place and realizing he was the biggest on the ranch where my tag was I was thrilled to harvest him on the opening day. I glassed him and his does up at first light and knew exactly where he was going. After waiting for him to chase off three other bucks I was able to move in close enough to let fly with the smoke pole. I scored him this morning @ 74" gross and 72.5 net which I am very happy with for my first goat. All the homework paid off, thanks to all the info from everyone, it was more helpfull the the NM dept. of g&f!!!

I decided to stop waiting for an Az ant. tag so I purchached a landowner/unit wide tag. Can one of you guys give the gps coordinates to the toad in this unit . Just kidding, I've been over ther scouting once and saw a bunch of lopes, looks like awesome country. Is anyone familliar with the country north of route 60, I plan on going up that way the next time I go up there. Can't wait for October to roll around

Most of the predators I have seen in the wild do not use it.

Went scouting this weekend. This is the biggest one I could find on the ranch.
-
I studied it more today, I guess that I do have to hunt that particular ranch the first day like you say. Oh well I guess I'll shoot the bigest one I can find there.
-
Yes, it is a unit wide tag. Here is a link that describes the diference. http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/recreation...horizations.pdf

Unit wide. If you have a ranch only tag you have to hunt that ranch the first day and then with the permission of g&f you may hunt elsewhere.
-
Thank God I don't have a ranch only tag! Thanks for the pics!

HERE ARE SOME PICS OF MY WHITETAIL I HARVESTED THIS WEEK IN SOUTHERN AZ. I FOUND HIM ON THANKSGIVING DAY AND HAVE BEEN WATCHING HIM EVERY WEEKEND SINCE. HE HAS JUST OVER 18" MAIN BEAMS AND A 14" INSIDE SPREAD. KEEPING IN MIND HE HAS NO EYE GUARDS, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK HE SCORES?

Official results for my deer are: 116 gross and nets 111 5/8. I'll take it!!!!

22O SWIFT. faster, flatter, etc. The problem is I don't think you will find many people that have even shot one. They are somewhat hard to come by and not produced like the 250 etc. The one I own has a bull barrel, weighted stock, and a custom trigger and it is the funnest gun I own to shoot. Don't have to worry about ranging much, just point and click and the coyote falls over in the scope.

Nice job! Anyone put a tape on those toads yet? -
I don't think it was a coyote, I think it may have been a large dog. From the photo you took in that kind of soil it looks identical to a track my large blueticks would leave. The one thing in the photo that does look feline is the heel pad, it almost seems that there are three impressions there, but it is hard to tell. The one thing that tells me it may have been a dog is the relation of the back toes compared to the heel pad. To be honest I don't know what made the track, do you have any more photos? If it is a lion track, let's go put him in a tree.

Man I love those heavy beam deer no matter what they score. Congrats on your hunt success. Is that a 35 B buck by chance?
