27 opening morning gobbler + biglake fish
AZbowhntr replied to tomgobbler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Great story. Where are the pictures? -
I was wondering what happened. I tried to view one of the other videos and it kept taking me to some other page. Great video.

Congratulations to that young man. That bird looks bigger then him.

Redneck, I hear you. The last turkey tag I had my wife and daughters were ready to kick me out of the house. I used to drive about 30 minutes to and from work and started practicing while I drove. Apparently it worked because I got a turkey the very first time a went out. I have always used a crow call with pretty good success.

The problem we ran into last year was the heat waves. They got so bad that we could only go a little over 20X with the spotter. My buddy had the Vortex Skyline. If it would have been a little cooler I don't think that there would have been any problem.

What about the black poly line that we use for our drip systems? That is way cheaper than PVC and it is one continuous line. I would imagine that for a $100 you could run a 1/4 mile of that stuff. I don't know how far you are having to hike in but that is a thought for getting water to your tank. Good luck. I think it would be cool to do something like this.

dang straight!!! And there is nothing like a little Karaoke on a Saturday night at the Antlers.

Congrats on the tag. It looks like there are a few of us that have that tag. I have seen a couple just today, plus I also have it. I was on the same hunt last year and saw several bulls but none that we really needed a spotting scope to check out closer than what the 15X's will do. We had the Vortex spotter with us and used it the first coupe days to score bulls and decided that we were doing just fine without it. But if you want to pack it in, there are enough roads that you aren't going to be too far away that you couldn't carry to extra couple pounds of your Leica. Unless you decide to pack into the Hells Gate Wilderness area. Good luck on your hunt.

Congrats on the tag. I have the same one. I have a buddy that drew the tag last year and we ended up getting him a 335 bull. Not the biggest but pretty nice none the less. It really depends on what kind of country you want to hunt as to where you will hunt. You can send me an email if you would like and I can give you a few pointers. I have been hunting this unit for over ten years now so I know it pretty well. Good luck.

What do you think this bull scores
AZbowhntr replied to Huntn coues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I will guess 355 -
One of my friends wife had a baby recently and I sent him a text message asking if everything went ok. He replied asking for a boys name. I asked my 11 year old who happened to be standing next to me when I read the text ans she said without a hesitation, Landon. And that is their babies name. So that would have to be my choice.

Duwane Adams glassing class
AZbowhntr replied to yumabowhunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I took Duwanes class last year with Chef and we learned a lot. I don't have the top end glass but do have decent glass (Minox 12X50). Taking his class is not so much showing off what you have but learning how to use what you do have. I had known for years the glass techniques but until his class I didn't know where to look and when. I went on an elk hunt this last year with a buddy of mine just a few months after the class and out of all the elk we glassed all week my buddy only glassed one cow. And I owe most of my glassing success to Duwane. -
Matt, nice tag. I just got through and I drew the 23 rifle tag in Nov. I was with a buddy last year that we got a 335 bull for. Looking forward to the hunt. Now to just wait and see if Chef draws a tag or not. Maybe we can hunt early and late seasons.

Coueskiller's Wall of coues
AZbowhntr replied to coueskiller's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Congratulations on some great bucks. Shoot, I would take the smallest of them any day. -
And if you don't hear any gobbling try hitting a crow call. That seems to work really well too.

TJhunt2, I'm in the same boat. My check hasn't cleared yet either. Of course I didn't put in until almost the very end. I dropped mine off the Sunday before the deadline. I keep checking every day.

If they were just walking across the open desert it would be one thing. But they aren't. I'm sure that you have seen the pictures posted on this site. Some of them look like someone went out to the city dump and took a picture. It is that bad. And that doesn't include damages to the property. How much do you think it costs to clean something like that up? In a case like that I feel that the property is the same as your home. You have every right to protect it. And you would be insane to try to protect it without a gun. Everyone is right about how people don't want to get involved unless it personally affects them.

I think out of staters with max points almost have to put in. But the lower points applicants are going to drop off. As far as the javalina leftovers goes, I didn't put in this year either. Not that I didn't have money but I was too busy with work and other things. I am hoping I can pull a couple tags this year though. It has been a couple years for me. Good luck to everyone.

That was a great story and pictures. You have to love the San Carlos for whitetail (and bear). I have been there for a couple different hunts and loved it both times.

Man that buck is awesome. Love the mass.

Is the setup still available. If so I am interested. Thanks

Congrats to your wife on a great buck. That is awesome. And that thing looks like it has a real big body.

Congrats on a great buck. I really liked the story too.
